Review Dogs overcome first quarter blues to beat Hawks 125-83

Worth noting that Reeves also had a career best game according to the rating points. Sweet got better as the game went on, but we're clearly a much, much better team with English in it maybe wouldn't be fully against the idea of Schachr first rucking next week

Hi Bevo

I think we should still play at least one genuine ruck.

Well done on the win tonight.

Just watching the highlights after getting home from the game. Weightman is such a legend. Got absolutely wiped out a minute into the 3rd and bounced back up like a rubber ball. The way that kid plays the game is a joy to behold.

pretty sure Cody is made of rubber, bless him

It was a strange game where they did so many things poorly yet won by 7 goals. The first quarter was clearly the worst of the season and the last quarter was the worst the backline has been all year. It shows what the side can do when they win contests and close up the space in the corridor.

West has jumped many players in the last two weeks, smaller forwards that can win one on ones are rare.

Schache clearly makes the team better, how Cordy spent so much time forward this year ahead of him is very confusing.

I don’t think Ugle Hagen is in the best 22, but he showed with his reach what he’ll become when he’s physically ready.

If Sicily’s a leader at your club you’re not going to go to far, it’s the sort of nonsense you’d expect from a low iq forward pocket agitator.

I actually didn’t think we were bad per se in the first quarter, Hawthorn came out firing and we got caught out a few times.

We turned things around on the back of Libba, Bont, Dunkley and Macrae - and West, far out. He keeps getting better and better by the week doesn’t he.

Jamarra’s contested marking tonight was fantastic, he just needs to get his kicking right.

On Sicily for Hawthorn, how much of a nightmare would be for a coach.

Clearly very talented, but just an absolute nut case with a short fuse.

Remember that game in 2019 when we came from behind and beat them? Gave us 2 goals in the last by being completely ill disciplined - one was pretty soft but technically there (to Schache to put us in front) and then to Gowers - plus a 50m penalty for going off his nut at the umpire.

The guy just never learns.

Great game that one :)

Interesting to see us line up at some points in the 4th with Naughty, JUH, Schache and O’Brien all in the forward line. Not sure what the thinking was there.

Richards was awesome before going off. Very weird quirk in our Great game that the head is protected at all possibilities, other than in a marking contest where it’s celebrated if the forward can slam a knee in to the back of the defenders scone.

Anywhere else on the field, that’s a free kick. Seems like a strange inconsistency that needs to be phased out if we are to take concussion seriously.
But one of our worst concussions last year was a friendly fire incident (Astro's knee on English at Manuka). How do you police that? Give a free to GWS?

Don’t get the bad reviews for Crozier. He had one sensational brain fade but other than that he was fine.
And perhaps understandable given the faster pace of the game at senior level. He hasn't played seniors for ages.

My wife used to teach James Blanck, he was a Doggies fan as a kid. Such a shame we didn't use the midseason draft to add a tall defender to our list. Good luck to him though, looked pretty decent on debut.

Sicily was a Dogs fan too. Can play but we don't need maniacs like that. Bullet dodged.

Westy and Libba absolutely carried us that game.

The backline is still an abomination. The ball just follows Gardner and his opponent. It's not a good thing.
We didn't get any heat on the ball carrier in the 1st quarter and dropped off again in the last but the match was done by then.
Hawks have unearthed a gem in Mitchell Lewis. Wish we would take a chance on a tall late in the draft occasionally might fluke one ourselves!!
