So the secret is to have a teammate look at the clock and tell you when there is a set amount of time to go? It's a silly unworkable rule that is going to irritate by being umpired inconsistently.
Ultimately though, I'm glad they called play on. We were dominating. It's GWS who should have been looking to waste time to limp to the break before too much damage was done and reset there system at the break.i think we're silly to waste time when the game was at the stage it was.
people are making out that this is the first time an umpire has done it. I can remember it happening last year and soon after the rule was introduced. Players were just standing there looking at the clock and umpires would hurry them up. I must admit this is the first time that I've seen an umpire signal play on without much warning. He should have to say 5 seconds or something, which kind of defeats the whole 30 second thing. I think the AFL should probably drop the 30 seconds and make the players put on a show to get their delay ...like sock pulling up... or feigned concussion etc
