Draft guide for the AFLW

We can only pick players who have nominated for the Victorian draft pool, hence the separate draft tabs for each state, but after the draft we can approach anyone who is undrafted from anywhere in the country to bring them across if we still have spots.

Some Victorian players have elected to nominate for other states so it’s a bit tricky to know who is who at the moment — hopefully they post updated lists soon. Ham and Hurly are definitely in the NSW draft though, unfortunately!

Notable that Montana Ham — the effective number 1 pick, 180cm mid from Vic Country — is one of those who nominated interstate :(

She’ll go to Sydney now which I guess they do have pick 1 so ok, but for us it means Hawthorn take someone else with the first Vic pick which has flow on effects for who is available for us.

It’s like 4D chess with this convincing players to nominate a different state before the draft even starts though. Like the AFLW equivalent of live pick trading in the mens .

Holy… it’s only one persons opinion but we have Lucy Watkins predicting us to finish 6th and play finals in our first year 😬

Discussion starts at 13mins then breaking down our list build and why recruiting role players who can play a particular type of game is important

Apologies if already discussed by why haven’t they snake drafted the top picks amongst four new clubs? We should have had picks 4 and 5 not 4 and 8. Seems a little unfair
Coz of who we recruited. The free agent signings were taken into consideration for the draft order.

And out of all the teams we were the best at it and Port second best.

Hawthorn did s**t and Sydney were so s**t at recruiting established players that they get all seven of their picks before GWS even gets their first one.

Sydney were actually pitching to Victorian top draft prospects to nominate for NSW because they can guarantee they’ll select them… because state based draft.

Think we're short a ruck. If i read the spreadsheet correctly Lore has it:
8 forwards
8 mids
6 defenders
And a ruck.

So we'd be looking to sure up the backline a bit I'd think.
7 list spots? So maybe 2 defenders, 3 mids and 2 rucks?

Or 3 defenders if someone is able to pinch hit. Small list sizes make it hard. We look to have a fairly rounded list, certainly shouldn't be lacking for talent up forward. Until the list is full i'll keep holding out hope they stick Mia-Rae Clifford in there somehow 😆

This is where its not totally clear because it looks like the list is completed tonight however Nadler plays ruck in the VFLW side.
