Serious question, 6 out of how many players are there in the team? That figure probably represents the % you would expect to actively resist restructure in any organisation, most will get onboard with a few on the fence. Ultimately success of a restructure depends to a large extent on senior managers in this case Sonya and Ben and influencers like Ant and Boomer to actively and frequently talk up the change the reasons for it and support it.
Do you really think most are on board? The most consecutive losses by 40 points or more....ever.

When you go out and recruit the best talent from around the country, people who have spent their lives striving for the chance to show their skills at the forefront of their chosen industry, you had better have the right leaders in place. These kids coming into the system have played with and/or been coached and mentored by 200 plus AFL gamers. They aren't coming into the system completely raw.

If you think it's ok for some of our best young talent to be disillusioned with the coach because there's always a percentage that will be, then thats your prerogative. I just hope like hell the board don't feel the same way.

Thing is Mav it only takes one or two bad apples to destabilise.

The review needs to look at what's going on with players as well as coaches and other footy dept staff.

If there are recalcitrant players who refuse to get on board their future needs to be questioned as well as any other staff.

Players are not above criticism or being moved on if they can't or refuse to meet professional standards.

"Prominent managers contacted yesterday — they have about 15 North players on their books — said there was no issue with their players and the coach."

The resident bloodthirst posters going to acknowledge this?

Of course not. It doesn't suit their panty twisting ways.

I don't buy the players want to bail story, I am sure most/all are frustrated with the status quo and anyone uncontracted will likely evaluate their options but the reality is that other clubs are going to struggle to come close to what we would pay our better players, because we don't really have good old vets soaking up a large part of our cap space.

That being said, that statement probably wont convince them unless the players in question are within that group of 15.

Anyway, Walsh will talk to the players and I am sure if there are any issues their first course of action would be to raise them with him.

My main concern with JHF is that he may potentially be in an environment which makes it hard for him to settle down/enjoy being here. I think that arrangement should be reviewed.

Why would they disclose that though? If there are issues with the coach it will come out during the review. Wouldn't put much stock in a journo contacting player managers either way.

He looks pretty chummy with Noble in that 360 footage from training today.

Go to any training session and the mood and atmosphere belies the constant reports of player discontent and a looming revolt. We then dish up what we do on game day…….

I’d love to know who the malcontents are and see if there are any giveaways on the track.

Player managers account for a significant amount of AFL journo mail. Particularly when the player isn't happy.

This thread has blown up over various reports over a fracture between coach & player, yet when a piece of information is released that contradicts that, it's largely ignored.

There'd be no point an agent outing a player as being unhappy to a publication while a review is taking place that is quite clearly going to focus on the relationship between the coaches and players.

Not saying it isn't true but I also don't think it's the significant point you are implying.

Super minor thing

Many here are on the play McKay fwd idea yet nobes is getting smashed for doing it

Poor bloke can’t win (not in that sense, save your jokes😜)

Negativity resonates much more than positivity. This is a human trait.

Part of the problem is the contradiction between what the club says and what we see. We are all together, on the same page, no rift, then on the weekends we are churning out sub-standard performance after sub-standard performance. We are told that we are building pressure from the VFL and then we have players who do not perform in the ones and are not relegated to the twos. We have dropped players after they have shown the most ever in the ones.

So not only does the negativity resonate more, the positives we are being sold are kinda hollow. so when a positive snippet is reported it is not hard to see why people haven't reacted to it.

Personally players leaving or not we are not going to really know how it plays out until September. Our season will be over and players intentions will be known either way. I have actually come to terms with the idea that we will lose some players this year. We are in a position where our 2022 draft hand is currently so poor we are either going to have to trade future picks or a player or two. Likely players that we are playing in the seniors or have some value, so they will be ones we want to keep.

I don't see a mass exodus as that generally isn't how things go down. But we are in a hole and it is going to take a lot to get us out of it. My main concern is that we seem to be pretty poor at the trade table of late.

Agree, a lot of reasons why any player concern about Noble and assistants' competence wouldn't make it to 360/Herald Sun via player managers:

  • players hold concerns but have not told managers
  • players expressed concern but told managers to keep it quiet,
  • players expressed concern but managers told players to hold tight, wait until season's end
  • managers don't share player issues with AFL media ever (as a policy)
  • managers realised that telling Robbo etc would identify, or at least significantly narrow down some players.

Hang on, Robbo’s a fat drunk who’s full of shit, or so this board has said a billion times.

So why now do you believe him? And do you honestly believe a players manager would diss the coach on record?

FMD, talk about picking and choosing to suit a narrative.

My point is pretty straight forward & easy to comprehend.

If Robbos mail was that there was issue with player and coach, it would have 1000 posts on it already calling for his head. Because it's the opposite, doesn't get a mention.

I haven't ever said this.

I never said that I believe him. I inferred that people choose to ignore that piece of "positive" information, whilst electing to form opinions based on the "negative" information.

Player managers regularly release good and bad information to the media. This isn't at all unusual. Also, nobody has been named so it isn't "on record".

With all due respect, I think you're the last poster in here that could accuse anyone of this.

What if Walsh reports that Nobel isn't the issue?

What if the issue is players getting lowballed in contract talks or player welfare is not up to scratch which effects some individuals games?

What if it's the players and coach versus the rest of the football dept?

All I'm saying is while the results have been shithouse, other factors could be impacting on our performance. Maybe Nobel is right, we are doing 80 to 90 percent right as 10 to 20 per cent wrong is still a major issue.

My concern with our footy department is that a lot of funds are being sucked dry by ex coaches and consultants while the permanent staff are left to carry the extra burden. This could lead to disharmony along with a lack of support to players on a daily basis.

To me, some players are pissed of at the club and not the coach himself. I feel the whole Nobel had to apologise to players was blown out of proportion and used as a deflection by some at the club from the real issues.

Walsh's report will be compelling I hope.

I personally think we'll be looking for a new CEO and Football Manager along with more support staff for Nobel.

Certainly a possible outcome. Not what the rumours suggest but rumours are not always right.

This shows a high level of naivety towards the AFL media and how journalists operate.

It might not suit your narrative but player managers don't just reveal all, or anything, just because Robbo asks. Most are smart enough to be selective. And you don't need any special insight to know that the AFL media get it wrong regularly because they don't actually have a genuine source.

Regardless of anyones narrative, your comments about player managers not sharing information about their clients & club with journos, is completely factually wrong.

I think it was a left-field experiment worth trying, a bit like putting JZ back in FF during the Sydney game.
But by halfway through the game it was clear that BMac as a forward wasn't working.
And so the decision to keep him there for the second half became another example of a bigger issue: we haven't been adapting to gameday developments very well, we keep persisting with things that clearly aren't working, even when there's no discernable reason to keep them as they are.
