So it begins. The questions being asked to AFL house for priority picks. Hopefully we get in the ear because we are heaps shitter

The Carlton assistance package should be all they get. You can't trade your second and third selections and expect the AFL will cover you with another first rounder.

I'd prefer us to finish last now, to really show this up as a farce. I've seen enough improvement so far, it's not a big deal if we don't quite get a win or two against bottom 4 teams at home.

However, I'll do a complete 180 on my position if we can beat Freo in the derby and knock them put of the top 4 🤣

Its about long term shitness though. Sure we are probably worse right now but North have been rubbish for near 20 years and are a real chance of being relocated or folding if they drop away too much.

I don’t see an issue with them dissolving.

And that's not something a PP will sort out. All that achieves is sending a highly talented kid to a wasteland with no prospects of tasting success. They aren't shit because they haven't had access to the top end of the draft.

I dont agree with it but that would be their justification for giving North a PP and not someone like us.

Does north folding make the competition better or worse. Not just for non vic teams but for the better of the game?

north can still balls up a pick if given end of first round and have less chance of messing it up if given pick 1 and 2 for instance. Surely the fastest way to have north competitive again is to early first round draft picks. This dilutes the pool from other bad teams (not including father son Ashcroft going to a top 4 team) and kicks the cab down the road

Haggers on SEN saying players like Rory Lobb, among others will be forced out to accommodate getting Luke Jackson.

Lobb requested a trade last year apparently and wants to go at the end of this year as well.

I guess it reads betters saying he's being forced out.

So the North argument is that they need extra picks because they don't have any (other than pick 1 or 2) in the first few rounds.

You knew that when you traded them out you corkheads!
You shouldn't trade out picks (especially for pre-identified spuds) and then whinge you've got no picks.

Talk about wanting your cake (draft picks) and eating it (trades) too.

It should be a Carlton type mature player assistance or nothing. But the GC precedent is worrying. Pick1 and 20 in year 1, and mid then end of first round picks in years 2 and 3 is ridiculous. Was at the time, still is.

Three clubs have had extended periods on the bottom of the ladder in recent times other than North:
  • Gold Coast (had a lot of top draft picks but couldn't keep them there long enough to benefit, disastrous off-field set-up)
  • Melbourne (had a lot of top draft picks but burnt them on duds and with poor development, slashed their senior players in an attempt to build through the draft quickly)
  • Carlton (had a lot of top draft picks but burnt them on duds and with poor development)

North looks a lot more like Melbourne and Carlton than Gold Coast. Melbourne didn't improve until the AFL gave them assistance off-field and Carlton didn't improve until after they stopped getting priority picks in the first round.

The AFL also cares more about Gold Coast being successful on-field than they do North. North are there to make up the game numbers for the TV rights in AFL HQ, and not much else.

Will be interesting to see which way the AFL leans. On one hand, I expect the AFL to cave and give North what they want. On the other hand, the AFL have been wanting North to relocate for years and talk of a team in Tasmania has grown again this season. While Tasmania may want their own team, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest for the AFL to knock North back for commercial reasons masquerading as "integrity".

I hope Gillon takes notice of that Richmond video. The posters analysis and breakdown is some of the best I’ve seen on YouTube. Match was clearly fixed 😂

Richmond nuffies are basically Poe's Law though.

Speaking of, if anyone has the audio of Mario from Doncaster on SEN comparing himself to Jackie Kennedy please link - can't find it anymore.

The GC concessions were so ridiculous that they ended up trading most of the picks away, including the mid-first round 2020 pick (+ 2019 pick 64) to Geelong for 2019 pick 27 in return. I'm surprised (not really) the AFL signed off on such a lopsided trade.
