Third rounder for Robertson is a bargain.

Let’s remember if Robertson was to be available, it’s not because he’s rubbish, it’s just because of the circumstances he is in. Not saying he’s of the same quality but just think Josh Kennedy at the swans.
Agreed, he was pick 22 in the draft and isn't being left out because he's shit and not up to it, but because he's only in his third season, Brisbane are contending and there are more experienced players ahead of him. He's probably worth about the same as where he was drafted, which would mean we would probably have to use 26 if we want him; if we can get him for 38, we'd be laughing.

Every club will be aware that Brisbane’s 1st round pick is tradeable so likely comes down to which club provides the best outcome

Brisbane may also be looking for something that gives them a pick in the 2023 draft given that they’ll be picking up Ashcroft and Fletcher this year. They will also get a pick for losing McStay as a FA and if this board has it’s way a pick for Robertson

I doubt ports 2nd and our 3rd will be enough to get Brisbane’s 1st - they’ll get better offers than that
Our ability to outbid others might come down to whether we manage to collect the spoon.

If we get the spoon we could package up the below. Throw in promise not to use pick 1 on Ashcroft that would save them an additional 483 points. Giving a total point differential of 793 points. That would be equalivent of pick 23/24. They might just throw in Dev Robertson to make that happen.

Would leave us with pick 1, pick 16, pick ~28 (ports second rounder), and Dev Robertson. Would be happy.

IF he is out of contract this year (and this still isnt clear) then we have the PSD as a very large and blunt bargaining tool. This puts us in a good spot to get a bargain.

It’s in a Herald Sun article.

List Mgmt. - 2022 Trade and Free Agency Thread
Here is the spiel

YOUNG LION NOT ON MARKET — YET

Emerging Brisbane Lions on-baller Deven Robertson is out of contract at the end of next season, not this year, as many people believed.

The Lions announced in November 2020 that Robertson, along with teammate Jaxon Prior, had signed a one-year extension to tie them to the club through 2022.

But Robertson, who captained Western Australia at under-18 level, actually committed at the time for two more seasons rather than one.

The No. 22 pick in the 2019 draft has appeared only three times at senior level this year between injury and form but is considered an important part of Brisbane’s future.

Lobb and dockers future second for dogs first. Dogs and Freo's firsts to Melbourne for Jackson. It all lines up pretty smoothly. Happy to have Jackson head there and if nobody comes knocking hard this year for meek he will 100% want out next year for more game time and or we will have enough data on whether or not Williams or Jamieson are worth Keeping. Meeks trade value will also be significantly lower next year if Darcy plays most of the season.
I would expect Melbourne to ask for Meeks to be added to the 2 x first rounders

I'd trust the herald sun as far as i could throw them

I don't want a pick 7+ I want a pick 1 or 2. That is where the likelihood of drafting a top 5-10 midfielder in the league is greatest. That is what we need.

In other news the points calculator is telling me that Port Adelaide's second rounder (assuming finish 10th) and our third rounder is worth more points than pick 16. That's the deal we should be looking at. Depending on where thinks shake out might need to move to our second rounder and our third rounder (pick ~20, pick ~38) to give Brisbane enough of a boost. Not opposed to that idea if we believe a Hewett or similar may slide.
Like an extra 500 points?

Meek is from Victoria. So if he is "squeezed out" at Freo, he is more likely to head east

Seems like rucks on the merry go round are generally happy to go wherever there’s a good opportunity. Hickey moving states three times, Vardy coming over here, Giles before him, Preuss (a Queenslander) going to GWS, Fort going to Queensland, Witts before him etc.

Meek’s already here and been here for a while.

As for sliding down and trading into next years draft because it’s looking better, people were raving about the likes of Lemmey and Hewett last year. Now their stocks have slid so far this season. A year is a long time in football, my view is you grab the best talent available in the country when we’re in a position to do so. Gambling it away and hoping for the best in a years time ain’t worth it.

Wouldn’t be holding my breath on Gaff being traded as much as I think it would be a good result for the club (and arguably Gaff) if it it did happen

And this

Peoples thoughts on Oli Hotton? His name caught my eye is a Fox article. Vic kid described as "one of the best and cleanest stoppage players seen at school level". Could be there around our 2nd picks possibly. Played a ripper in the wet. He isnt a monster but he sounds like a real goer.
Hotton is a smaller but nugetty forward / mid from the article. He sounds......dare I say it.....like a Baker type you can pick up later in the draft. ;)

Clearance and stoppage player with good speed, tackles and finds the scoreboard. Plays well in wet conditions.

Ticks a lot of boxes for what we lack and due to his size likely 3rd rounder onwards. Can also play back. Very Baker like. :thumbsu:

Hotton and Brown with late picks would add somenice ground ball skills and forward preasure. I reallywant our recruiters to take some smaller, agile fast types instead of these taller flankers. Bulldogs do and it works.

He was very impressive in the VIC M V Allies game I watched.
He has only very recently been played as a forward previously he was exclusively a midfielder.
He is indeed quick his sprint time is 2.98 and any thing sub 3.0 is quick.
I can also vouch for his clean hands and his skill level is top shelf.
I wouldn’t be unhappy if we drafted him.

Whilst I’m on Gaff, he’ll become the the 11th 250 game player of ours but the first to reach that milestone without playing in a premiership

Looking down the list we’ve had 27x 200 game players with only Gaff, Priddis(240), Sheppard(216) and Naitanui(210*) not winning a flag

Going further we’ve had 45x 150 game players with only Phil Matera(179) and Rosa(168) not winning a flag

Of those players only Phil Matera didn’t play in a GF. Rosa was the sub in 2015

Goes to show that if you play for us for long enough you’ll at least get a crack at a flag and probably win one

Do want

Mattaes Phillipou

Seen before the Under-18 Championships by most observers as a probable first round selection, South Australian Mattaes Phillipou has rocketed up draft boards and is now viewed as a likely top 10 selection. Phillipou's first Under-18 Championships match against the Allies was one of the most influential performances of the Championships. Phillipou amassed 24 disposals, 17 contested possessions, two goals and two score assists, hurting the Allies with every involvement through the midfield and up forward. The same dominant football was played by Phillipou in his performance for South Australia against Victoria Metro. Early on, Phillipou was the most influential player and had amassed nine disposals in the first 15 minutes of play, before leaving the field under serious duress and requiring treatment on his lower back. Phillipou would return to the field in the second quarter and despite struggling to cover the ground and get low over the ball to win it as we are accustomed to seeing, he enjoyed the most striking moment of the game. Following a mark in the centre, Phillipou used his peripheral vision to notice his opponent had lost balance and Phillipou took immediate advantage. Phillipou left his opponent in his wake, burst for 20m at speed and finished on the move from 45m. With Phillipou measuring in at 192cm, having a December birthday and being a genuine dual position gamechanger with his contested ball winning capabilities, strong marking, skills, acceleration and scoreboard impact, there are shades of Marcus Bontempelli to Phillipou. As with Bontempelli in his draft year, Phillipou in this draft presents as the prospect with the highest ceiling given the way he changes games with every touch both through the midfield and as a forward.

Hi Eagles Fans & Draft Watchers - pardon the intrusion.

For those who might be interested I've created a thread over at the Draft hub about the BigFooty 2022 National Draft Crowdsourced Rankings (!!) which allows BF draft fans like yourself to participate in creating a 'crowdsourced player power ranking'. You can read about it on that thread or go straight to the survey site here to cast your own votes towards a crowdsourced ranking.

It's got close to 4000 votes since launching this morning so whether you're a draft guru or just an interested onlooker we'd love to have your input into this different approach to ranking the prospective draftees for 2022.

It's very simple - just go to Who is the better prospect for the 2022 AFL National Draft? and rank the player you think is better from each random pair that are shown...do it as many times as you like and see what player combos you get shown.

Below is a snapshot of the top 10 so far but you can see the full results here. Love to have you join in!

Note: the survey is about choosing which player you think is the better prospect so the scores you see below are the estimated chance (based on the BigFooty crowd responses) that a player will win (i.e. will be chosen) against any other randomly chosen player (from the pre-populated list of ~45 top prospects). For example, a score of 100 means the player is predicted to be selected every time and a score of 0 means the player is predicted to not be selected every time.

The round 23 fixture was just announced and North are playing before us on Saturday. If we want to be campaigners we will know exactly how much we need to lose by in order to get pick 1, although it probably doesn't even matter because we lose by 100 whenever we go down to alphabet GOOMBA stadium anyway.

Any thoughts where he might go.

2nd round. 3rd?

181cm and 77kgs atm.

Geelong may rest players by that stage. But even if they pulled in a few random ammos from towns along the Great Ocean Road to make up a team, the result would probably still be the same; our team seems utterly clueless on how to play at that ground.
