The kid deserved his opportunity after dominating for Willy. Looks like we have another 6 foot 3 defender to add to the mix. No doubt it was drummed into our players not to their direct opponents get behind them and that was his only glaring error when he misjudged the ball and Higgins goaled as a result. Good one on one and didn't shirk any contest. Won't hold his spot because Jim Bob is back for the Brians game but another quality youngster to go forward with.:thumbsu:

I thought he struggled defensively. Played on Giansiaracusa and Higgins. Would have had about 3 or 4 kicked on him throughout the day.

Can't question courage, committment and disposal though. Could be a player.

I too think he will mature into a midfielder, a quick running wing type player

Another very promising debut......seems all the players to debut this year are doing well......with the Blue Chip stocks Brown and Reid not even revealed yet!!

Good first up performance, good sign that after his early mistake he regained composure and didn't make another mistake all day!

Higgins goal at the end were not really the sacks fault, the dogs were running riot at that stage and Higgins was the benficiary

Goldie beat him in quite a few contests, and provided good run off the HBF

Thought he battled a bit today. Just looked like he lacked a bit of confidence at times. He didn't have a terrible game by all means but he was beaten too many times by Higgins during the game.

I still think that he's got a lot of promise but today he wasn't up to it IMO.

Does anyone else think we are building a list with too many tall to medium sized defenders? You can only realistically play 3 or 4 max in the one side.

We have

Presti
Wakelin
Clement

as the old guys, and the young guys of

Anthony
Brown
O'Brien
Goldsack
Toovey
Cox
Maxwell

with Scott Reed said to most likely become a tall/medium defender, and Thomas Young (our second NSW picK) said to be a CHB.

You could argue that some of these could play small, but they are not as good on smalls as small defenders are (ie Johnson and Shaws.)

Also, you coudl argue they could go forward, but we already have a number of kpp forwards (young and old) and backs don't necessarily make good forwards anyway (see Maxwell...)

I just feel we are building a list that is top heavy (particularly in the backline) and we desperately need mids.

A very tough game to debut in. White hot. As the TV men said, semi-final pressure.

BUT he looked just fair; did some nice things but on the day, he wouldn't be too happy with his performance.

I found it interesting that MM persisted with him. Shackleton, Roach, Mullins (I think) all spent large amounts of time on the bench in their debut games, so MM must reckon he's got something.

I am expecting 'nuggets' back in the ones before the season is out.

he played good but he looks like pendles so i get them mixed up

I had the same problem. What a problem to have though. Anyone who remotely resembles Pendles has to stay in the team. Will be a really valuable player. Should be given a good run in the seniors and i'm sure he will improve out of sight. Pointless bringing in for one week and then sending him back to Willy. If we can get say 10-14 games in him by the end of the year I firmly believe he will be in our starting 18 come round 1 next year.

I found it hard to draw much fro his game. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. I hope he stays in the side for another week or two at least. Let’s see how he goes after the first game settler.

yeah i'm a rap for this kid as well, hard at it

I'd like to see him retained for another week at least. Get Clementos to come in down back and send Goldy up the ground where he can play more attacking. Maybe wing/hff

Nice idea but we need the four points and cant get too sentimental at the selection table. If he's in our best 22, hes in. If not, he's out.

When in his right position he didn't lose out. As mentioned, he didn't shirk, nor take a back foot, and did set up a fantastic goal with a great mark.

He didn't really have the right opponent, when on Higgins...he put in 110%, but Higgins acceleration at times was too much, obviously expected though.

Was our 6th ranked player, obviously a good sign from the kid.

A good prospect looks too much like Pends as someone pointed out before lol.His got good foot skills which a credit for him. I dunno where all these primed young kids are coming from but our elevated rookies seem to be doing better than our original senior players e.g Stanely, Cook. Is Wellingham a chance this year?

the kid can play, he will be a gun for us.

did read that he just domintes at whatever level he is at,

watch him dominate the AFL (starting next week)
