I would never have guessed.

Guess what? Be brave and say what you want to say.

So you, more than others, would understand the plight of women from these countries. I guess, from your comments, you agree that women should have no rights or freedom of speech also.

Of course I know how some women are treated in Muslim countries. Again, I'm from a Muslim background.

Can you please share where I said I do not want women to have rights or free speech? Share it or delete that comment of yours as it's wrong and disgusting.

It's a mystery when you don't know how two sisters died in their beds.

If you're intimating that honour killings are fantasies then you do not need to look hard to conclude they still occur.

Can you please share where I said honour killings dont exist?

Seems to me "honour killing" is most likely at this point. If it's not that, then maybe they were mixed up in something. Their behaviour seems to indicate they lived in fear.
  • Esra Abdullah Alsehli, 24, and Amaal Abdullah Alsehli, 23, fled a family holiday
  • They jumped on a plane from Saudi Arabia to Sydney, via Hong Kong, with $5k
  • The young sisters changed their names, renounced Islam and became atheists'
  • Five years after arriving in Sydney, they were found dead in their Sydney unit

There's CCTV in or around those apartments although it's going to be hard to try and pin down a block of time police will specifically want to look at if they're not sure exactly when they died, if they still even have the footage.

Some more alleged facts from this article for discussion on this sad case this weekend.

'However, news outlets based in Yemen have shed more light on the mysterious situation - reporting that the women fled their homeland with a wad of cash in 2017 due to a tumultuous relationship with their parents.'

'According to Ana Yemenyi and Tomorrow's Yemen, the sisters were on a summer holiday with their family when they jumped on a plane to Sydney, via Hong Kong.

They changed their names from Reem and Rawan Abdullah Al-Sahli to Israa and Amal Abdullah Alsehli, renounced Islam and became atheists, the outlets claim.

The sisters then connected with an Australian refugee organisation. It is understood they were on bridging visas in Australia.'

'Local news outlets said their brother was expected to make a public appeal to encourage any potential killer to come forward, but the family have so far remained silent.

The mysterious deaths have made waves on social media, with many Middle Eastern locals asking why the sisters felt the need to escape the Saudi Kingdom.

One man said the women exposed themselves to danger when they left their homeland: 'Do not leave Saudi Arabia in search of freedom. You will not find it.''

'The Consulate of Saudi Arabia in Sydney has offered its condolences to the family, who are believed to be 'well connected'.'

'While police told Daily Mail Australia in June that the toxicology tests had been fast-tracked, detectives said on Wednesday they were still waiting on the results.

Toxicology reports are normally processed within four to six weeks.'

'police still can't confirm what they did for work.'

The thing is that the cctv may of already over recorded by the time they were found. Most systems have only got the capacity for storing a months recordings at the most.

Again what does this prove?
That maybe you were unaware of the below from only a few years back.

And here's another 2019 article with video in it of the 2 sisters explaining their plight.

It's the same girls who were trapped in Hong Kong and as named in the Time article, Reem and Rawan.

The deceased sister's Fairfield former landlord has revealed/claimed that the sisters
  • were studying at TAFE in Fairfield
  • working in traffic control for a construction company
And that Asra's (darker haired older sister) ex-boyfriend had a beard and a middle eastern appearance.

'Saudi sisters found dead in Sydney had active claims for asylum with Department of Home Affairs
'Sat 30 Jul 2022 06.00 AEST'

'Guardian Australia has confirmed ... each had an active claim for asylum ongoing with the Department of Home Affairs and had engaged with settlement services providers in Sydney. The nature of their claim for asylum – their basis for seeking protection – is not known.'

'the women do not appear to have been a part of any Saudi dissident networks. They had almost no social media profile, online presence or photographs in the public domain.'

'The sisters had arrived in Australia in 2017 and lived at a property in Fairfield before they moved to their unit in Canterbury.

Their previous landlord spoke to Guardian Australia under condition of anonymity, saying that they were shocked by the women’s deaths, and that nothing suspicious had happened in the two years they knew the sisters.

“I was shocked when I saw their photos, I have no idea how this could have happened. They were very cute and friendly girls, we never had any problems with them,” they said.

“They wouldn’t talk too much, and would stay up at night, but they never made any loud noises; nothing weird ever happened.

“They would keep to themselves mostly, didn’t have any friends, barely had anyone visit, and would only leave here and there,” they added.'

'Guardian Australia understands that the older sister, Asra, had a boyfriend when they were living in Fairfield, with the landlord saying he was “Iraqi” and had a beard.

Asra had also applied for an apprehended violence order in January 2019 against a man, although that application was withdrawn.'

'The landlord said the sisters’ mother had visited previously and that she had not liked Australia, leaving after only a brief stay. They had never heard the sisters discuss their father.

The women had been attending Tafe in Fairfield, with the landlord saying they would “only leave for Tafe, shopping or work”. Both sisters worked in traffic control for a construction company.

“They had come to Australia to study,” the landlord said.'

Sadly I think the odds are that you are right.

Saudi Arabia has a terrible human rights record... yet they buy their way out of it with oil money... just look at recent visits by Biden & Macron.

Saudi Arabia has a terrible human rights record... yet they buy their way out of it with oil money... just look at recent visits by Biden & Macron.

A very dirty look from a human rights perspective.

'Issued on: 29/07/2022 - 13:00'

'"The President and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia underlined the need to bring an end to this conflict and intensify their cooperation to ease the effects in Europe, the Middle East and the wider world," the Élysée Palace said.

Aides to the French president had indicated before the talks that Macron planned to urge Saudi Arabia to increase its oil production to help bring down global crude prices.'

'With Russian oil and gas supplies either unavailable to EU nations due to sanctions or being withheld by Moscow, European countries are desperately seeking alternative sources of fossil fuels.'

'The Élysée statement said Macron had "underlined the importance of continuing the ongoing coordination with Saudi Arabia with regards to the diversification of energy supplies for European countries".

Saudi Arabia is one of few countries worldwide with the capacity to increase its output.

Russian energy giant Gazprom on Wednesday cut the amount of natural gas flowing through a major pipeline from Russia to Europe to 20% of capacity, blaming technical problems. Germany, however, called it a deliberate move to sow uncertainty and push up prices amid the war in Ukraine.

A necessary pariah

The French statement said that Macron and the crown prince also discussed food security amid fear of famines caused by the loss of Ukrainian grain.'

'the prince is once again being courted by Western leaders as they urgently seek fresh sources of fuel to replace Russian supplies.'

Have Islamic Courts in Saudi Arabia moderated their stance since 2015, on sentencing people to death for renouncing their Muslim faith?

'Saudi court gives death penalty to man who renounced his Muslim faith'
'FEBRUARY 24, 20158:41 PM UPDATED 7 YEARS AGO'

'An Islamic court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced a man to death for renouncing his Muslim faith, the English-language daily Saudi Gazette reported on Tuesday.'

In 2018 two Saudi sisters drowned in the Hudson River New York, there were rumours then that they were murdered due to the way they were retrieved wrapped up in tape but it was found to be deaths of a suicide pact.

Really sad.
That reporter who was butchered at the Saudi consulate probably cut himself up

An excellent article today in the SMH on Saudi women in Australia, and human rights in Saudi, with references to the case this thread is discussing.

Women leave Saudi for a better life. They often find a lonely one

'Roger Shanahan from the Lowy Institute said Bin Salman’s domestic reforms have been significant, partly driven by a “genuine belief that you can’t keep the genie in the bottle.” However, he was able to push ahead with the reforms “essentially neutering” his potential political opposition.'

'A report by Human Rights Watch found Saudi women’s lives are still difficult. They must still obtain a male guardian’s approval to get married, leave prison or obtain certain types of healthcare.

“Women also continue to face discrimination in relation to marriage, family, divorce and decisions relating to children, including child custody. Men can still file cases against daughters, wives or female relatives under their guardianship for disobedience,” it said.'

There are certain groups who commit cold blooded murder then hide behind calling it honour killings, usually it's a jealous husband or father who can't handle their wife/daughter having a life or independence

If you suffer from high blood pressure or anxiety, or are perfectly healthy, I suggest you look away before reading on.

'Family of two sisters found dead in a Sydney unit refused to let police release images

In a twist to the unsolved mystery of two Saudi sisters found dead in a Sydney apartment, it can be revealed their family refused permission for photographs of the pair to be released by police.

Clementine Cuneo and Josh Hanrahan

July 31, 2022 - 6:22PM'

'police contacted relatives in Saudi Arabia for permission to release images of the women as part of an appeal for public help, but they refused.

However, a coroner investigating the deaths overruled the family’s decision and insisted the photos be released so that as much information as possible could be gained about the dead pair.'

'It can also be revealed the sisters had been given an eviction notice from the Canterbury Rd unit just weeks before they were found dead.

Rental agent Jay Hu said the women had been good tenants since they began the lease two years ago, and provided a bank statement with “ample” savings, but things went awry earlier this year.'

'“They stopped paying rent, so my colleague contacted them … they said the money would be coming soon,” Mr Hu said.
“But it still didn’t come … a few more weeks went by and still not paid.”'

Mr Hu said the tenants were given notice to vacate the property around May, and the agency had no further contact with the pair until police informed them of the deaths.

He said the unit, which was advertised for rent last week, had undergone renovations including new carpet and paint to “clean up” after the grisly deaths.

Arab news outlets reported the sisters fled Saudi Arabia via Hong Kong in 2017 with $5,000 savings, and were actively seeking asylum in Australia.
It has also been reported the pair renounced Islam and changed their names after arriving in their new country.'

'The sisters’ bodies remain in a Sydney morgue while their belongings in the unit were “thrown out”.
“The police took what they needed, and the rest of it we were told to throw out,” Mr Hu said.'
