I think some are taking this the wrong way , i have nothing against girls footy , it's just in the ammo's it's grown too quick and it's affecting men's footy .
I really don't see why old boys teams that have no female students should have teams . All it is is greed .
This is unfiltered lunacy...All clubs should have / try to have women's teams and men's teams. Just makes the whole environment so much better.....women's footy is awesome and clubs with great footy support systems (like many of the Premier section clubs with boys only feeder schools) should use the system to introduce women's footy....especially since girls only schools don't have old collegians footy clubs established as yet.

I was taking the piss and Mr Zero came back with what i'd expect .

Saturday afternoon VAFA games tend to be watched by a lot of older men and twos players. There's always been a few women but not that many. What is there at the club (apart from their men) to attract them and keep them there? What other interest would women have in a club?

WRFL have introduced a netball competition (following on from many country leagues) and VAFA now have womens footy. I've seen the numbers change dramatically. There's something new they can be involved in, to make them part of the club as well, not just a follower. And for those unconnected to footy players who want to be in their own sport, there are now more teams available in their area that they can join. And the aftermatch is transformed when the girls arrive after their own game.

All positives as far as I'm concerned.

It's just a transitional phase until the girls who come through from Auskick and the juniors keep going through and bring up the skill level, and the numbers increase - then we'll see more involvement with the clubs and ancillary groups like umpires.

The thing that gets me is they are trying to say i'm against girls footy , i'm not it's great , but it affecting mens footy with umps
I really embraced the girls footy at my club , sadly it fell apart due to the only reason i dislike it

Finals == playing for sheep stations.

Yes, it can be hard maintaining concentration when you can throw a doily over 36 players in the pocket at the far end of the ground and there hasn't been a hint of a score for five minutes.

For the players it is the most important game of the round, they have worked hard all year to be there, and in elimination finals it could be the end of the season. They deserve to have impartial and competent goal umpires.

Not their fault there isn't an umpire tree that can be shaken to have fluoro oddballs dropping to the ground as needed. They have to come from somewhere else. It is the way of the world, I'm afraid.

Can I ask you are people not allowed a different view ? to me I can understand clubs wanting umpires for men’s and women are entitled umpires for finals . Is the answer women’s finals on Sunday’s .

Perhaps I was also taking the P155 mate - of course everyone can have different views. Shame you need more that 18 posts thou... ;)

So the problem is the well-documented umpire shortage, and not women's footy per se.

It's nothing new - lack of VAFA umps has been moaned about (confirmed by a quick search) on this very board since 2007, and probably earlier but I couldn't be bothered going that far back.
Noticed that two of the 5 games in Premier C on Saturday has the 3 field umpires system-Hampton Rovers v Mazenod & Marcellin v Parkdale Vultures.

I'll guess and say it's because they've been co-opted on.

Ivan Delac the old Glen Eira president is a terrific operator, he needs to be re-appointed. He turned that club from a genuine rabble into a very competitive and strong football club.
Does anyone know why that the people coming on the board are only on for this year .

One of the best things to happen to the board in years , surely higher role coming

If women’s footy “growing too quickly” 🙄 is….affecting mens footy, then the clubs / competition need to focus on umpire and off field recruitment in general.

I mean seriously - people in club land complaining about dozens of new players and family / friends joining their club because it places a strain on umpiring resources? What a horrible problem to face.

Like having a tax problem because you’re earning too much money.

Provide a club environment where people genuinely want to be involved in any capacity and the volunteers will present themselves.

It's shocking. Women's footy is fantastic and I'm just sorry that this Sunday will be the first game I get to see my clubs women this year.

Easier said than done , even good clubs that welcome everyone and have a good environment are struggling to get volunteers . People are different since the pandemic started , same with players , no matter what club it is.
