Rumour Adelaide Crows camp

So The Age settled with Collective Mind out of court for making similar accusations to what is now coming from Jenkins?

How does that many any sense?

CM appear to have paid a decent SEO dude to make sure that if you google 'collective mind crows' (or similar) they are the top result.

Then if you click that link it goes to a page which looks like this:

Nice PR lads.jpg

Their quotes from Jenkins are:

"Every word meant the world"

wtf does that even mean?

And

"To Max, your integrity is inspiring"

I'd like to know the context behind that.

The "Thanks Gary" from Eddie Betts seems like a bit of a pisstake.

I'd also like to know if that photo is from before or after the 'abuse your captain for failing on the biggest day of his career' ritual.

The age settled because they stated CM actions in in causing anguish were deliberate but CM stated they acted in good faith. The court agreed with CM.

Was nothing to do with the events of the camp itself. Those allegations were never challenged .

Betts' book provides a pretty clear explanation of that.

Part of the ongoing psychological trauma he describes from that camp is that by the end of the camp he actually ended up believing what was being done and said was improving him. That having his own team/work mates bash and abuse him and cheer on strangers (the camp 'counsellors') yell out personal details about his past and attack him for having been brought up by his mother (and other stuff about his upbringing that were his deepest personal secrets) - and him participating in doing the same to his team-mates and friends like JJ actually made him a better person.

It was all part of the cultish mind-feckery that took place at that camp that for him and several others their reality was turned on its head. And something that he says still causes him to have nightmares about.

When I read the chapter on that camp I am reminded of that famous scene out of Orwell's 1984 where the main character 'Winston' allegiance to Big Brother and the Party is tested by demanding that Winston sees five fingers, instead of the four he is holding up. In the end - after all the torture - he agrees that he sees five.

This camp had nothing to with mindfulness, which actually can (and does) benefit a lot of people in this modern world of distractions.
Yeah the motivations of the people running the camp were all about improving the 'masculinity' of the players.

Clearly they had all the answers for what the ideal man looks like. It's a psycho who needs to sit under a tree for days to get rid of the voices in his head.

Sort of. But it is important to recognise that no court made any decision in relation to the CM claims.

In December 2021, The Age and Nine made a business decision to settle the case and issue an apology without admitting that the story was inaccurate. They just said that Nine Entertainment and journalists had acknowledged the camp was run in good faith and with the players’ interest front of mind.

13 stories written between 2018 and 2021 by McClure and Wilson were removed from Nine Entertainment/Age websites and the company paid for the legal costs of CM in launching legal action.

When you take a look at the CM website and see their 'official statement' on the reporting of the camp it is simply laughable given what we now know (cut and pasted here for posterity because it will surely be removed from their website some time soon):

Our response and legal action

There have been so many unsubstantiated and offensive allegations that have been publicised over the past two years, that we feel we have no recourse left but to respond with firm action.

We have therefore decided to proceed with defamation legal action against Channel 9 and Fairfax/The Age.

In hindsight, would we do some things differently in relation to the Camp? Probably.

Was it the catastrophic, damaging, and demeaning exercise that it has been painted by some sections of the media? Definitely, not.

There are many elements involved in the Crows’ poor playing form over the past two years. To consistently revert to the headline-grabbing ‘horror camp’ as the death knell of the Crows’ winning form, is convenient and simplistic.

We are not perfect, but we are not the monsters the media seems to delight in portraying us as.

After more than two years of hoping common sense might prevail, this false narrative is still being told. Now is the time to say, ‘enough is enough’. We have always – and will always - stand by our work.

Best Regards,

Amon & Derek

'False Narrative'

Not a practicing lawyer but pretty sure that Caroline Wilson and Sam McClure would have strong grounds for seeking damages and retraction from CM Directors for what is contained in that statement given what has been revealed this week. But they won't because they know their work on the Camp has been now been completely and publicly vindicated.

And they can just look back on the fawning sycophants in every corner of the Adelaide media who screamed 'media beat-up' and shake their heads.

To cover thy backsides when the s**t hits the fan.
Yeah the fact that they aren't actual professionals means they probably cannot be done for violating any professional codes. But does any of what they did potentially cross over into practising medicine without being a doctor - whatever the legal term for that is?
non ahpra registered,is always a slippery slope.

Are you not convinced by the testimonials from "Bruce Gibbs"?

What has collective minds done wrong? They offer a service …
I wouldn’t want to be a part of that service … it’s sounds stupid.

But It’s the crows that reached out asked for that service … CM would have explained what they do.

This should all be on the Crows.

Footy Classified showed a 2018 clip of Rob Chapman saying nothing went on at the camp they he hadnt experienced at bussiness conferences and strategic days. I can believe it. The corporate world, and particulalry in sales and marketing has at times bought into all kinds of pseudo science and toxicity. For some Glen Gary Glen Ross has been viewd as aspirational.

Well this is the question, did Collective Grift inform the club of what they planned to do? Not the Crows seem keen to answerr those sorts of questions.

Ross Lyon on FC seemed to think that senior coach would have been briefed on the plan for a camp like this.

So much going on here. They just look like a bunch of twats and the messages look like they were written with a gun held to their head.

Riccuito seems to have done as much damage to his footy club he played for like Hird did for Essendon.

It's mind boggling he still has a very high profile role inside the AFC.

Surely it's untenable even further for him to stay after this week's revelations.

FFS have you read even one word of what happened at that camp?

Collective Mind contracted out that camp to co-called counsellors - one of whom openly admitted he hears voices and sat under a tree for a couple of days to make them go away.

Admittedly if it was the 17th Century that guy might have been canonised on his death by the Church and had private schools across the world named after him.

But it was 2018. Where the feck was the professional due diligence? And they still claim the camp as a triumph and use it for advertising on their website.

No way CM escapes scrutiny and blame for what happened.

And that the Peter Costello's Nine Entertainment (the owners of Age and Channel Nine) actually paid CM compensation, issued formal apologies and deleted articles that Caroline Wilson and Sam McClure reported (accurately) about what happened was (imho) cowardice of the highest order.

Many Crows fans on this forum certainly owe Caro and McClure an apology for saying they were lying about what happened at the camp.

What rubbish …. CM provides a service … what ever that service is entirely upto them.
Adelaide football club hired that service.
Stood there and watched the service they paid for go to town on their players.
Did CM provide a service that the AFC didn’t ask for?

It’s like the Adelaide FC taking their players and wives to a Strip club and blaming the strip club because people were offended.
