Doubt he will get the nom this week but I feel like he deserves a nomination this year. His body of work has been pretty impressive for a first-year player.

Will be Cumberland from Richmond this week because body of work only counts so the VFL can pick their favorites.Doubt he will get the nom this week but I feel like he deserves a nomination this year. His body of work has been pretty impressive for a first-year player.
Some posters are like spam...Gee you sprout some s**t.
one of the Carlton posters in their review thread mentioned they would love to have Soligo in their team

5 goals in a tight win is going to get the nom 9 times out of 10. Cumberland Soligo has been good, but he's just been unlucky two players have kicked bags of 5 in the past couple of rounds/Will be Cumberland from Richmond this week because body of work only counts so the VFL can pick their favorites.

Lack of height to be a midfielder lol.How did this guy get through to 36!
What a great pick up. He's tough, all class in the way he moves and uses the ball, quick thinking and has a decent burst of speed.
You know what the beef is though. Its not only the mix but the quality of player. No one is complaining about Soligo because he can play. No one would be complaining now had we gone Serong over McAsey because he can play. But Hamish has used first round picks on smalls that cant play very well in Jones, McHenry and Gallucci. Why not if the cap fits...it certainly gets a regular run on this board
We've also got Hately who is big... and can't play. You know what the beef is though. Its not only the mix but the quality of player. No one is complaining about Soligo because he can play. You also know we have to have balance, you cant have a midfield of just smalls and you know that.
Thats my point, they primarily have to be able to play. But you need a mix, that's just stating a fact. We've also got Hately who is big... and can't play.
(Although he's clearly an inside mid, and we never put him there for a long enough stint).
So, fundamentally, maybe we should get footballers who are good at... football?
Maybe we should focus on playing ability first, and forget about their height. Speed, skill, decision making and evasion are much more important than size IMO.Thats my point, they primarily have to be able to play. But you need a mix, that's just stating a fact.
He’s a tougher Tyson edwards imoSeen a few player comparisons in game style to young Jake over the weekend - Ben Cousins, Sam Mitchell - to name a few. I personally dont see either of those as they seemed to have different weapons with their elite gut running and dual sided footskills
I always find it funny when the player comparison is a Brownlow Medallist or 300 game champion . So with that in mind, the 'gamestyle' I see that lines up best with Soligo is Joel Selwood. Hes not overly fast, or a booming kick or have any initial standout weapons that you see him use as his 1 wood. He just wins contests with his hardness and then uses it so well with class under pressure. He thinks quick, rarely gets out positioned and just looks a winner. There is so much to like.
Yeah but he's a late pick and still a bit of a long shot, plus we need more than just one, unlikely we will have a 100% strike rateNankervis would have been drafted with midfield on the agenda long term.
Fair enough, but you can't just put all your eggs in the one basket as we found out with O'Conner.Late pick yes, but there were reasons for that.
Nankervis missed an email inviting him to the Sandringham Dragons 12 months previous and it was only when he started tearing it up for Bentleigh in the SMJFL that the Dragons once again approached him to join them.
So only 8 NAB League games in the elite Junior pathway...I think it's fair to say if he'd joined them earlier if we wanted him we'd have had to pony up a fair bit more draft collateral.
This guy just keeps doing things that say Wow. He is clever and a running machine
ALL ABOARD!!!!
Soligo is a gun. He just has it.
Tough, good speed. Good overhead. Clean under pressure. Footy IQ. Hits a target.
Can't wait to see how good this guy is going to be.
Nah, too small to make it.

I like his composure, good vision and decision making. Some of his work in that last quarter was exceptional for a first-year player. Really understanding now why we were so keen to give him another contract before a ball was bounced
