Opinion Top 50 my life

GAJ is better. Not to start up a whole fuss about it again but in my opinion not having a flag disqualifies you from the No 1 spot. He can be as high as 2nd though which is where I have him, can’t have a GOAT without a flag, our sport would be a laughing stock. If he won the 89 GF I’d have him No 1. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, most freak talent though.

Disagree GAJ isn’t even in my top 5…

Gary Albett senior is the best player since 1980.

No one really comes close … statistics… strength … kicking … marking… impact on games… pure talent…. Vic representative games …
I don’t care about brownlows …

Gary Albett senior is number 1….

Also just to let you know. GAS 4 AAs, Lethal 1 AA, Lockett 5 AA. You must not rate these guys at all either then. You’re a joke buddy. Pies v Tigers rivalry from the 80s is still going on in your mind, no rivalry anymore mate. Get over it.

Also forgot Simon black 3 AA, Fyfe 3 AA, Voss 5 AA. Really have no clue at all.

Oops sorry another edit, Goodes 4 AA, Akermanis 4 AA.

GAS 8 all Australians (he won 4 “team of the year” which was the all Australian of the day- the others probably have more too)

Been watching since 1973 and Ablett Snr is the best player I have seen and by quite a margin. This business where some say Brownlows, Premierships apparently make you a better player is just rubbish.

Martin not in your top 50? Jesus. And they call me crazy. You gonna admit he has consistency with 4 AAs it’s as much as GAS. You couldn’t seem to rebut it from your last comment hahah. I know why cause you can’t.

You do realise the All Australian team had a different criteria prior to 1991. Please tell me you know that.

In the modern AFL (ie around 1990ish onwards)...

These players do not have Brownlows:

Wayne Carey
Glen Jakovich
Lance Franklin

These players have Brownlows (no offence Melbourne and Port fans)

Shane Woewodin
Ollie Wines
Matt Priddis

These players do not have premierships:

Nick Riewoldt
Matthew Pavlich
Tony Lockett
Nathan Buckley
Gary Ablett Sr

These players have premierships (no offence Hawthorn and Brisbane fans)

Steven Armstrong
Ashley Hansen
Daniel Venables
Matt Spangher
Clark Keating

I've always not been a fan of the Brownlows and premierships being used to assess the value of a player.

Yep that’s why he’s my equal No 1. Nobody comes close to him in H&A. My point was that Dusty has enough consistency. He wasn’t just good in a handful of games like that crazy pie supporter says.

Serious question … who has had a better season than Dusty 2017?
Name the player and the season.
Lance Franklin 2008
Gary Ablett Jr (multiple)
Lockett, Gary Ablett Snr, Dunstall, Carey (multiple)
Leigh Matthews (multiple)

No doubt it was a great season by Dusty but he only beat Dangerfield in the Brownlow by the skin of his teeth (Dangerfield suspended for 2 games and inexplicably missed votes when he returned).

If you're using Brownlow votes as your determinant, these have been consistently inflated in recent years (hard to compare with previous decades). If the following isn't vote inflation, I don't know what is:

Brownlows don’t matter for fwds so that’s fine. My only issue is with the label of GOAT being on somebody without a flag. Otherwise yes he’d be No 1

Do you not realise how ridiculous this logic sounds to everyone else (those with brains)?

Luke Ball, Brad Johnson, Stevie J, Bartel, Hocking, Selwood, Enright aren't even in the same stratosphere as Nathan Buckley or Pendlebury.
If fact, plenty of your top 50 wouldn't come close to those 2. Lloyd and Modra???

He forgot Collingwood just like the AFL Team of the Century did

Buckley is better than the players you mentioned clearly.
Pendlebury isn’t. Pendlebury is a great player - he’s in my list (fwiw Luke Ball shouldn’t be anywhere near this sort of list). But he’s no better than Selwood, Corey Enright is widely regarded as the best small defender since Bruce Doull and arguably better. Brad Johnson was a five time all Australian and a superstar. Garry Hocking was probably behind Greg Williams and Robert Harvey as the third best pure midfielder of the 1990s across the duration of the decade. Bartel was a finals specialist who happened to win a Brownlow.

Claiming those players aren’t in the same stratosphere as Pendlebury - who incidentally is one of my favourite players - is stupid.

Does this mean you think Matthew Pavlich, Nick Riewoldt, Matthew Richardson etc are not in the elite forwards of all time and should be rated below Tom Boyd, Ashley Hansen and Michael O'Loughlin?

They are, they can be up to number 2 just not No 1. Nobody has them that high anyway.

Massive fan of Pendlebury but I'd rate Nathan Buckley as your clear GOAT that I've watched.

Comfortably

You left out pace and ability to kick with his left foot

The GOAT, and we'll never see anyone as good as that again

100% agree.
