Milburn's eyes wasn't on the ball and Cripps wasn't going around clapping and smiling like a psychopath. And that hit was was a lot bigger.
Milburn's defintiely later and SOS even more vulnerable, and no clapping thank god, but it's that class of incident.

get airborn and hip-and-shoulder the head of a guy who is exposed by taking a high ball.

They still won't lol. And Cotchin actually won possession of the ball.
It’s so frustrating seeing this example from years ago in every tribunal thread. Cotchin didn’t intend to go high and he collected the ball on the way through. He was creating/protecting space for him to gather and give. The rules were also different then.

Nuffies need to put it to bed

when will it get through to people?

this stuff causes brain injuries

no it is not murder, but it is debilitating, you just can't see it now and Ah Chee will seem like he is back to his old self, it will happen in the decades to come.

Do you want all contact that causes a concussion banned? People know the risks. Play a different sport if you want.

Look at modern successful captains like Cotchin and Gawn.

They 'Fly the flag' by cracking a joke or a smile with their teammates, not by cracking the skulls of oppos.
No, when I lived in Richmond I was walking to work down Swan Street when I felt something hit me in the back of the head. When I turned around it was Cotchin, he was laughing and had just thrown an empty UDL at my head.

I asked him why and he just slurred “leAderschip!!” And charged at me, trying to fight me. I easily disposed of him with a karate chop to the top of the noggin, knocking him unconscious instantly. Then Dimma the fearless leader told me to jump the fence and see what happens, so I did and I tried to roundhouse kick him into next week but turns out it was a hologram. Next thing I know he’s king hitting me with a steel chair. Luckily, his feeble old man muscles imparted about as much force as the AFL tribunal did to the Cripps case so I turned around and delivered a stone cold stunner for the ages.

Cotchin and Dimma are sniper dogs, everytime I tried to walk that way to work this would happen.

POTY. :tearsofjoy:

Well I'm disappointed on the one hand but on the other... it's another extremely amusing example of the staggering incompetence of our common enemy: the clueless and overpaid private school boy cohort known as the AFL. They really didn't have any idea about how to categorise that incident. If you do something wrong and knock a bloke unconscious, how can that only be two weeks? The AFL counsel at the Tribunal was a dribbling idiot who had probably never seen a game of football. The Tribunal itself acted like a bunch of amateurs, going on a frolic. After all that, in hindsight, the Appeal board really had no choice but to let Cripps walk.

Tim Kelly gets a week for a tackle that ‘had the potential’ to cause injury.

Cripps chose to bump, and actually did cause injury. Zero weeks.

How does this work?
Well he should of gotten 2 but all I can say is good luck to Carlton because there is no way in hell the AFL will let this slide and they will get their pound of flesh some how. Wouldnt be surprised if Carlton get absolutely reamed by the umps this weekend
What do the umpires have to do with this ?
They didn’t even pay a free kick for that incident

Just thankful Cripps didn’t do anything as heinous as this.

I’ve seen primary school raffles run with more oversight and integrity than the AFL tribunal.

I don't know why that keeps getting thrown around. It's irrelevant.

What would they pay a Free for?

If you bump someone fairly, and they get concussed when their head hits the ground - there is no Free Kick.

It's illegal and you get 2 weeks from the MRO, but there's no Free Kick.

Great news for the blues
Terrible look for the AFL.
No wonder we have clubs like pies and crows go through trouble with cover ups and saying one thing whilst doing another they’re just mimicking the parent business.
I have no Ill feelings for the blues it’s actually helps the dockers if they win the next two.
But the afl is a load of s**t that’s has no set rules besides making money and protecting assets !
Another example of AFL corruption.

Money over principle.

Hope players sue the AFL over concussions.

This was assessed as “low impact” last year.
I presume you think it was accidents well?
You presume I think it was accidents well do you?

I didn't think Cripps action was an accident, or this one. Although I have to presume you think Selwood should have received no penalty. Eyes are on the ball and he's bracing for contact. If you were any sort of bloke you'd stand by your convictions and refund Joel his $3000 personally.

Love the tricky wording you attempted there. So your contention is that Cripps only jumped because Ah Chee was there and only pretended to contest the ball because he knew he was late? There's some supposition on your part there and the video doesn't really bear that out.
It ultimately doesn't matter what I think, so good luck to Carlton, but
A) why else would he jump that high, if there was no other player to contest with?
B) why would he turn his body, if he wasn't trying to body Ah Chee away from the ball?
If you show every other situation where a player approaches the contest with no other player in the contest, not a single one would show the action Cripps took. Hence Cripps' actions were not reasonable to any unbiased person.

And if you argue that they were, the response would then be that the circumstances were not out of Cripps' control due to events that could not be foreseen. As the contact is precisely and completely as a result of Cripps' actions.

Carlton got Cripps off because of a technicality of what the charge was based on (a bump) and what Cripps actually did, which was everything that a bump was, except the intent to bump.

It's a farce really. It's a sporting tribunal that on occasion becomes a plaything for lawyers, without all the rigor of a proper legal system. Farce.

that's the era that rubbish belongs in, entirely my point!

it was absolutely thuggery from Cripps, and won't be forgotten

The Ah Chee family certainly won't forget the sickeningfeeling they must havehad watchign that
I don't think football is for you unfortunately.
There are plenty of online bridge games you can watch without getting all sensitive about a collision sport.

At least now oppo fans can stop sooking about the cotchin shiel bump because apparently incidental concussion when the ball is your objective is okay.
I believe I was the one to first introduce the Cotchin bump on Shiel into this thread. For what it’s worth, I didn’t think Cotchin deserved to be suspended for the incident.

I merely raised it in response to other Richmond supporters, who were championing the idea that it didn’t matter about intent to contest, because the end result was contact made to the head, and therefore Cripps deserved the two weeks.
