Obviously highlights can be deceptive but I don't mind the look of him. Some nice reading of the ball off packs here which is something we lack. I'd be OK with it.

A bit concerned by the number of senior players that are likely on the way out but happy to hear we seem to be pursuing a number of players in positions of need.

I said above he needs to get fitter but has the tools for that role. Wasn’t he drafted as a small fwd?
Was drafted as a small forward who as mentioned by others above we wanted, Is not the fittest but Adelaide have been fairly poor during his career so standards might not be the highest despite Burgess coming this season

Darcy Gardiner would be a great medium tall option. He is mostly a lockdown defender and underrated.

I’m down for Rowe I’ve been saying since last year we need decent small forwards we really only have Weightman who lowkey plays more like a tall forward then small the rest are average at the role besides west

Barrass blanketing Lobb on the weekend. I wonder if Barrass was trying to impress us/Sam Power, or Sam told Lobb to ease up to drop his trade value? Or maybe they both treated it as an intra-club match-up at VUWO, but Tommy went harder than Rory?!

Rowe makes sense if you consider we’re probably replacing Dunks with one of our makeshift really-a-mid small forwards (West). We could continue trying with Garcia or McNeill but for once we have some genuinely great marking targets up there and they need a natural small forward that can actually work off that (which isn’t really Cody’s game).

Others seem to not rate him but I’d take him. He can actually defend and he’s a neat kick. Would be good next to Keath/Jones/Gardner. Good age for us too.

You forgot Tommy B!

Rowes trash, id be aiming a fair bit higher than that
Calling Rowe trash is way too harsh. Small forward in a crap team like Adelaide is just about the hardest gig going.

For a little fella to generate 27 goals, 14 assists and 13 disposals per game over 35 games in his first 2 years is a pretty fair return.

Especially considering he had McAdam/Rachele/McHenry to compete with for the roll and with Rankine probably going to crows surely he knows he has to leave

He is exactly what we are missing and is actually very good at it just needs to trim down a bit

Its amazing how a single word can shift the tone of a tweet.

Instead of writing "hasn't had a shot at Adelelaide" with its implication of mismanagement and upsell.

One could just as easily of written "hasn't fired a shot with Adelaide" with the implication that he is a bust worth almost nothing.

Whatever, the truth this has the stink of a player manager fishing for a new contract all over it.

Its good to be tall in this game.
Poor Kieran Collins....

Is Rowe out of contract?

Needs to get fitter but has the tools.

He is certainly a footballer but limited athletically. Has a decent enough level of goal sense and awareness in traffic but lacks the speed required to be decent at the highest level. Would be an alright pickup for the right price. I would much rather we keep Rowe over Murphy and McHenry but AFC values forward pressure over hitting the scoreboard unfortunatley.

For context, I have significant background in professional sports acquisitions and back of house operational roles within sporting codes as well as a limited amount of sports management background, albeit I no longer work in any of these roles now.

I can tell you that they (clubs) are all operated as a business and the players are seen as employees just as any company sees their own employees in any other professional sense.

Yes, it’s a hard comparison because of the salary discrepancy but a regular job doesn’t have a time bomb attached to it. 3 years is what an average player gets on a list. That’s a short life span. 12 years if you’re really *ing good. In a regualr business, you don’t get fired for being over 30. In this business, the AFL, you do.

If Dunks chooses to move for a 20% payrise and a more favourable role that suits his skill set, let the bloke do it. He has 5-7 years left in the game to maximise his income and earning potential. He owes the club nothing. Literally nothing. He’s fulfilled his current contractual obligations. You can be salty he asked out of his current contract a few years ago but in reality, he saw it through and no harm was done.

Supporters need to grow up and realise you support a team. The loyalty is with THE TEAM. You get attached to players but they’re employees and they move on like other employees in other companies and other codes.

Look at the NBA for a more developed sense of supporter base. They either support the franchise as a whole or you follow your favourite players around the league as they maximise their earning potential In an incredibly short window. You get an occasional player whom stays completely loyal to his franchise, like a Tim Duncan, but it’s the exception to the rule.
Thanks for sharing, Dale. Would be good to hear your input on club administration related stuff more often.

Excuse the late response. Had hands full for a few days.

Not disagreeing that clubs are run like a business. But that’s what that side of football is, a business. Football departments, specifically player level isn’t the same, and although they no doubt consider their job and financial situation as a business, there’s a much more personal side to it. We see that with the loyalty of players that stay on with clubs for extended periods due to things not money or personal interest related.

There’s something like 800+ players in the league and we’d barely see 2-3% of those, across a season or two, move clubs for financial reasons. Our national sports competition isn’t like most others, and where Tim Duncan type loyalty is the exception in US sports, the exception in our sport are the players that only see what they do as a means to support themselves and make decisions solely on what’s best for them.

Players in our competition more often than not have loyalty to teammates, supporters and their clubs in general. This what makes our sport so good. And it’s what builds successful clubs/teams. As long as this is still strong, supporters will always have emotional connections and expect a level of loyalty amongst the playing group.

This may change in the future to reflect what we see overseas and no doubt will change the way supporters view player movement and the level of loyalty, but currently it’s not how it’s viewed amongst most supporters and even most players.

Of course there’s wiggle room for players at the end of their career or those that struggle to get a decent opportunity at their current clubs. I certainly don’t expect loyalty till their final game or if it’s a get delisted vs move on type of situation.

Anyway, I’ve said my piece. I see it differently and will likely always be pretty hard on players that want to move on for financial or pure self interest reasons.

I hope it gets sorted soon and we can move on with whatever trade/draft currency we get and strengthen our list in areas of need.

Agree to disagree but I do see where you’re coming from and can appreciate the fan/loyalty element.

On the input regarding club admin, behind the scenes etc, I used to more freely share info and things that I came across or had knowledge of but honestly it’s not worth it on this website. Better just to chat about the post game stuff with little bits of other things.

4 pressure acts and 0 tackles against the roos. yeah, going to want to turn that around about 3000% to play in our forward line

2 goal and 8 score involvements but hey let’s keep Vandermeer who gets “pressure acts” much better then scoring
Not sure if mentioned previously, but I would be interested in trialing VDM as a lockdown small defender. The only one we have on the list is Duryea who may not get a contract next year, and if he does he may not get on the paddock too often.

Duryea still more durable then Laith personally just don’t see it with him deer in headlights with it and hamstring ready to pop all the time

Not going to need a trial when we sign Darcy Gardiner (hopefully).

I was right in the VDM train not long ago , but his footy IQ is woeful.
Just makes too many wrong decisions.
Same boat here KH. Was a huge fan of his ceiling but now very concerned. Athletically amazing, can't fault his dedication, and has a great sense of where he should be...but gee, not sure there are many players on the list that get more lost when they actually get the ball.

Just hoping he gets a clean run with his body and can improve with a string of games.
