Roast Tyson Stengle sacked after ****ing up again

Indescretion aside, the thing that has pissed me off about this the most was how little output we got from Stengle due to poor selection polic.y..... I remember at the time he was here, many posters kept saying he was shit and too slow blah blah...

Whereas a lot of us clearly saw the talent and felt we were not rewarding enough.

It's staggering how we can relentlessly lose out on every player deal that leaves the club.
I'm happy with getting McAdam as part of the McGovern deal.

We lost on McGovern? Really?

The Blues traded Pick 13, pre-listed state league player Shane McAdam and a future fifth-round pick to Adelaide for McGovern and a future third- ...

No, but this is the thing I find stunning about all this. That people actually invest time saying Well done club, you got it right.

And at the same time say

What do you expect? We're a bad club with a bad culture like St Kilda, that's why Stengle wouldn't succeed here

It's like you've accepted We're a poor club and will continually make terrible decisions, this is just another one in a long line, so why would people be angry about losing an AA player for nothing
The issue with Stengle this year wasn’t a case of us stuffing up on the decision to let him go, but more a case of a guy who’s been stuffing around with his talent and now has finally awoken to his senses.

I think the footy Gods also have helped Stengle, coming to a club who currently has one of the more dominant midfield in the comp.

Don’t forget Lever with 2 firsts and CC for pick 12 (Fog). Our trading in recent years, excluding the obvious exception of Gibbs, has been good-excellent inc Dawson for unders

No good reason that he couldn't have turned things around here

A functioning football club wouldn't need to see players leave for them to become successful

And a functioning football club would be able to recognise talent worth persevering with

He'd be laughing at us now.

He got his contract paid out (presumably in full)
Got to play in a flag with his WWT mates
Picked straight back up onto an AFL list
All Australian
Minor premiership and possibly a flag in his first season at Geelong.
Laughing at the club that allowed him to have 3 major off field discretions in one season, that provided support off field and said if you can play a full season in the SANFL without getting in trouble then we will take you back? The one that then made good on the promise and offered a contract that he turned down because Betts went to Geelong? That club?

Honestly, why don’t you just close this thread? Just like the Lyons thread, people are going to have polarizing views and never agree and it will always end in the same circular arguments.

If you don't want Stengle discussion then don't visit the Stengle thread

People who do want to discuss it will, people who don't don't have to

Once again - not sure if you were on holiday from September 2017 till about October 2021 - but we weren't a functioning football club.

What most of the apologists are deliberately ignoring is that what he did didn’t warrant immediate sacking from the club. They tried that and failed. So instead of acting like adults and realising their overreach, they doubled down with the ridiculous season long penalty. All over bullshit optics when they celebrate turfs like Pyke and Burton that did dar more damage than Stengle could ever do.

Once again - your tirades are so long winded and just end up with weird rambling about Pyke and Burton which haven't been brought up on this thread.

It's completely understandable why the Club let Stengle go. He had 3 serious transgressions in a 9 month period, he cost us pick 68 to attain and had played 12 games in 2020 for a total of 8 goals. This wasn't a DeGoey/Martin situation.

You know who was laughing at us yesterday? Hinkley

Yep, and we made the decision to move Stengle on during that period

So... we weren't a functioning club. Making wrong decision after wrong decision.

But the call to move Stengle on was the right one of course. The oasis in the desert of bad decisions.

I supported the club moving on Stengle at the time, thought 3 strikes in a year was too much. But also in consideration was what I thought of him as a footballer, didn't seem to be worth the trouble. The club clearly thought the same so in the end it came down to talent identification, clearly they didn't rate him enough to want to keep him. I was wrong and clearly they were, I am just a nuffy on BF, they are paid professionals who had him at their club and should have identified the talent.

Which leads us to a more general topic of how we rate our own players. How many games do we give to bog average players like DMack, Murphy, McHenry? Do they think they are super talented or because they are good boys and try hard we should give them a game?

It is difficult to look a player in the eye - who does everything asked, buys into your program 100%, is selfless, pushes themselves as hard as possible, puts their body on the line, supports team mates, brings energy & professionalism, strives to get better - and tell them sorry you're not quite good enough as a player. Drop/delist.

You have to be a cold, callous mf. A Blight for instance.

I do think we need someone a bit removed from the day to day. A "chairman of selectors" type role. Someone who doesn't build personal relationships with the players and can judge more on pure football output.

With coaches as selectors it can be a bit of a case of can't see the forest for the trees.

“3 major off field discretions”

3 eh?..

1 more like it. Thats the DUI charge.

1 was for having a bit of Cocaine for personal use on him which is barely illegal these days and only gets you a fine.. because half of flipping society have gotten on the nose beers before. The shit should be legalised.

What was the 3rd?.. being photographed sitting on a couch at a house party?. Wow, lets shoot the kid.

It was nothing short of a complete and utter joke the way the club treated this lad.

Massive overreaction for nothing more than optics and to placate the apricot slice brigade do gooder nana’s that follow the club.. most of whom are that senile they wouldve forgotten about it all within the week.

And wow, hasnt it blown up in their faces.

No amount of BACCS club bootlicking and suckholing changes that..

Isn't that what Reid does? Not really involved with the players daily.

Being based in Melbourne probably helps through lack of day to day contact.

Davis must use Teams enough to be his best mate to stay on the list though....

Many wrote off Stengle as being not that good when he played for us.

But even among those of us that liked what they saw, I'm not sure anyone could have worked out a way that he could have stayed and thrived?

How about we just wear the fact that it didn't work out for us with Tyson, but good luck to him finding a spot on Geelong's list and making the most of it.
