The other thing with Stan over Kayo, at least its Smart TV App is available on all TVs. I have a LG cant get Kayo so have to Chromecast it. Have a Samsung that has Kayo but with the Kayo upgrade about a year ago the TV can't update it.

My folks had the same issue with their Samsung tv and Kayo.

Bought them an Apple TV box to get around it.

I’ll never buy a Samsung TV though.

Why?
The only issue I’ve had with them, is a slow TV guide, but I didn’t watch much free to air these days.

The Samsung I have would only be about 3 years old, its ridiculous. I wouldn't buy a LG again, should be able to download Apps.
Samsung has planned obsolescence after about two years. Same with their phones.

Might as well fold GWS, cant keep their players, they will only ever be a feeder club.

Tarranto, Hopper and Bruhn, where is the uproar?

Wait until some third stringer wants to move to Adelaide, then it will be full outrage and GWS should refuse etc....

Kayo works fine on my Samsung Smart tv, and I can get it using the Apple TV on my dumb Samsung.

From what I am aware most streaming services have pulled back from app support and primarily going down the chromecast route.

Chromecast is great, but for TVs where it's not built in they require use of one of the HDMI ports (which for some people is very valuable real estate).

I was a late adopter of Chromecast, but I actually prefer it and aside from our lounge room TV which has Foxtel connected to it all of our other TVs are running solely via Chromecast even for free to air TV.

Personally I would hate to see footy leave Foxtel/Kayo

Foxtel in my opinion is one of the best things to even happen for Footy, a dedicated 24 hour channel with endless amounts of analysis shows that varied enough to pretty much cater for everyone's taste.

The 9/Stan bid sounds terrible, obviously I will still get Stan if that's the only option for the Footy, but losing Fox Footy will be a massive loss for the AFL IMO.

Can anyone explain the “Firestick”?
Sounds like a solution from the little I’ve heard about it.
It's a media player - not totally dissimilar in concept to the Chromecast, in that you can install apps on it and plug it into the TV via HDMI. The biggest catch with it is that it's tied to the Amazon app store, so you can't just download and install apps from the Google or Apple play stores. The app selection on the Amazon app store is more limited than elsewhere.

Might be worth making a tv rights/ technology thread?

Foxtel is great as long as you never deal with them…

My advice, if you want Fox Footy, get it through Kayo…never get stuck in Foxtel’s dragnet.
I dumped Fox for Kayo this year.

It’s fine but theres potential for it to fail. Sometimes the app gets glitchy, I’ve also had crap a quality stream and buffering during a game once. Internet is fine. The dish felt a lot more stable.

Melbourne and Collingwood, easily.
The smart money would be on the 2 home teams.

Melbourne should account for Brisbane, even though Petracca won't be at 100%.

I think Freo could definitely beat Collingwood though, although it will be a hostile crowd. They've played some good footy this year.

Not streaming only, but no cable service.
Foxtel will die without footy.

Agreed. The subscriptions in WA/SA/Victoria will flatline if they lose the AFL. People aren't going to keep Foxtel just for the cricket and netball, and the entertainment options are pretty much available elsewhere anyway.

Sure, it won't affect subscriptions in NSW/Queensland too much as they have a long term deal for NRL, but surely that won't be viable long term for them.

Fox Sports has been leaking sports the past few years - EPL has long gone, rugby union has gone, A-League has gone, NBL/WNBL is now on ESPN (which, while on Foxtel, is not Foxtel exclusive), tennis (Grand Slams on 9, ATP/WTA on BeIn Sports), NFL (besides the games ESPN show).
