If Bullioh can make a return out of the wilderness, why cant the Bethanga F.C. reform and join the Upper Murray F.L.?

Bethanga is now Wodonga Saints nowadays right? Wodongah Demons came from some other team in a similar fashion (Kergunyah?) :blinks:

Bullioh merged with Tallangatta in the late 1970's to become Tallangatta Valley F.C., Bullioh then reformed in their own right in 2001. with them winning the U.M.FL. flag in 2004.

stuff wodonga saints they are there own club with no links to the great bethanga....the oval is still there and the rooms are still standing...one of the best clubs to play for.....all bullioh is players who can't get a game at tallangatta......

Bethanga had to relocate to Wodonga as they didn't have the quality of players that the clubs from the bigger towns in the district, therefore they were perennial battlers. They didn't have a problem fielding football and netball teams but the quality was not there (same as Brocklesby and Burrumbuttock in the Hume league). The ground out there is first class and their facilties would pale in comparison with other UMFL clubs (the township also has a hotel which would assist with fianancial support). Competing against clubs with similar population bases eg. Cudgewa, Border-Walwa and Bullioh would ensure their long term viability as a club, while also adding some legitimacy to the UMFL by adding a 7th club :thumbsu:

Where would a reformed club like Bethanga get its players from? I know Bullioh took half of Tallangatta and Cudgewa's players when they made a return out of the wilderness?

I suppose mainly from Albury/Wodonga, the bulk of their juniors would come from the local area. How many of their former players/officials would return would have a major bearing on whether they would reform. Unlike Bullioh which had a lot of Tallangatta and Cudgewa players join them, Bethanga doesn't have any other nearby towns to 'recruit'.:thumbsu:

Your right Reggie went out and saw the Saints play on Saturday but hardly saw any of the old diehard supporters from the old days. Maybe you'll have to pull on the boots to inspire them:D

Why don't we get the Tin-Khan's to reform and get Tumut to come back, Toecutter? It's the new millineum mate next thing yule be trying to get Koetong in as well as they have a pub. You have no idea mate and Bethanga folded because the grate Jason Merkel retired.

I think it wasn't retirement it was more the Tim Kite affair (Wayne Carey style!), that led to their demise:D Anyway shouldn't you have lawns to mow and edges to cut:D:D:D

A great man once said "Don't think about it, just do it".
May be you and reggie can be the diving force behind this project?
Bethanga, lost the support of the local, before they relocated, so unless it has changed hands, i am not sure you could count on their support.

I think Reggie and 'Uncle' Stephen Lord are getting the project off the ground. After seeing Lordy revel in the mud at Bullioh yesterday, I can see why he was such a super star out there. Bethanga is a bog most Saturdays during the season and he would be in league B & F contention.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Jase Merkel was a hero of mine out there. He is still the only dual B&F winner at the club and the only bloke to play U13s with a full beard.Shore he was 18 at the time but Bethanga was short of nummbers.

Anyway with the season over Uncle Stephen and Reggieray can get their Bethanga plan into action. Saw Reggie the other day and he told me he cant wait to get into the old saints jumper:D

Reggie, haven't heard lately from you and Lordy's plans to get the saints up and running. You must be keeping things on the quiet but don't worry old C4 will find out what your up to:(
I herd thay are talking to South Albury about a merger and are going to play home games at Lambert Park.
