But it’s most likely that an injection of youth as the unknown quantity could give us the shot in the arm we need to challenge under those players ala pendles and the pies.

Anyway. Who knows - let’s see what happens.

The Pies played 2 young guys playing last night. Ginnivan and Daicos. Most of their other "youth" are now 24ish. We didn't draft them 4 years ago. Losing Clark seems the opposite way that Collingwood have done it. They have a big pool of youth because they have used the draft every year and taken their picks.

Finding 2 star kids has helped but Daicos should have been pick one and Ginnivan was just a lucky pick off the rookie list.

Hopefully Hill is gone.

Jones I wouldn't be playing off half back. Definitely not in front of Clark.

We always seem to think we have too many half backs but we rarely produce any of quality.

If Jones can't play mids any more he probably has to take Hill's spot or play VFL.

And both opinions aren’t unreasonable.

It makes sense to trade him if we got a Cerra offer as it’s not a loss based on the last 18 months. Takes the pressure off him and us.

Resets the list demographic if we say added 5, 18 year olds in the top 30 in place of Geary Hanners Kent Ryder Joyce

This is really important for mine … our best players are 26-27+ Steele Sinclair Wilkie crouch membrey Howard Ross billings Marshall hill (if he stays ) … it’s imperative we balance the age profile out by having a good couple drafts . Last year being a good start

I’d prefer not to lose Clark to do it but let’s see what the trade proposal looks like

Happy to part with hill and long if we can turn it into draft capital

They did have 6 22 or under. That's almost a third of their side.

But you're right, the guys we draft this year aren't going to make a difference next year. You've gotta be pretty lucky to find a Daicos type.

Much more likely to get a shot in the arm by getting guys like Clark and Coff fit and firing

I think our lack of 20-22 year olds is a real issue to be honest

King is the only one of note in that age group.

Last year was a good draft year but there isn't a lot in between that year and the 2017 crop.

We have 5 list spots free as it stands, with the potential of 1-3 more to open up with players talked about in trades and if anyone else still uncontracted gets delisted.

You wouldn't expect us to fill them all in the draft and with us not having anyone linked to us yet in a trade, we could be hitting the Delisted pile hard over the next few months.

Yay. Hooray for the bin.

I’m not a fan, he fumbles badly and then baulks himself burns the first option and often the second then sells a teammate into trouble by firing a handball at his toes. He has played some good games but generally there’s just too much of the above, we have plenty of better defenders Imo.

Most of them get better elsewhere sadly. Watching Acres play so well was a bit galling to be honest. Can’t think of a return pick that went well. Off the top of my head. Glad to be corrected.
I don't think that's correct. Guys like Weller, Bruce, Newnes, Hind, Steven, Dunstan, Goddard, Minchington, etc all either played at the same level or went backwards. Historically we've actually been pretty good with recognising when our guys are finished.

I don’t see any of our players fetching anything worthwhile except Gresh who is in an age bracket we would want to keep. Unless we can get afl quality in either the key defensive, Key forward or midfield the most of our players are worth more to us.

Free agents and draft is where we should focus for the next two years unless it’s a difference maker we can trade for.

If the finals are anything to go by then speed should be a trait of most, if not all, of future prospects.

Yay. Hooray for the bin.
Yeah, true, Wood and Membrey, both spuds

Delist.

Seriously though, we don't go for delisted, that happens for a reason.
If we go down the path stav suggested, it is a direct admission the trading hasn't worked.
If we got two top dps it doesn't necessarily mean two to three years waiting. They seemed much more developed these days.

Not one of Windy, Naz or Owens looked out of place in the seniors first year, with Windy looking a long way developed.

What's to say that these kids will be any better or any faster to come on than what we have. The sides with lots of kids playing finals, most are in their 2nd to 4th years, not drafted last draft.

Well I guess at least if we step backwards we get a new coach. There's always a positive I guess.

I was referring to traded out players. Guys we got something in return for. Most of those you list we actually delisted. Not referring to those. Acres was part of the Hill trade. Steak knives I know, but in theory he was part of getting Hill.

Membrey was only delisted after we couldn't reach a deal and Sydney knew he would leave through PSD anyway.

They didn't push him out

No, sometimes you're better to hold and keep topping up with your actual picks. They arse around built the list then want to turn around and go back. I'd say that in the last 4 years we have been changing the list up much more than most stable clubs do. Sometimes you just have to keep adding players and put games into them.

Buying up older players hasn't helped, youth looks like it will help but we should get a gun recruiter at that point or it will be more of the same. Picking the wrong players has been a big part of the issue.
So is pick 9 and 27 turning this list into a contender?

I’d say we are probably wasting another year banking on 2 picks.

I’m only speculating for what it’s worth. I know nothing of the plan - if what I’ve been told happens by a non saints connection, which is that De Goey is re-signing.

It just makes sense.

HBF 2023 Kwaby Boakye Southport Sharks HBF, he was 88kg back in his draft year which hasn’t been updated, I’d say a few more kgs of muscle, only started playing AFL 2015.
Watched him in VFL prelim today, not a world beater (but could be) would be an instant cult hero at the Saints.

On his draft profile 2017

“Built to be an inside mid but with lightning pace”

Sounds incredible. How’s his kicking

Is this a joke? Hasn't he been selected when healthy?
Dealing with Dodoro again if that’s true. Great. Hasn’t he missed quite a few of those games out injured though?
Got to remember it’s the silly season, gents.

With not much of anything interesting to talk about, beware the sh*t stirrers 😉🤣

I disagree, I don't see that side of him, unfortunately. (And I've usually agreed with you on most points in the past)

I watched every game he's played in the midfield for Sandy this year and I've paid close attention to him in the seniors when he's on the ball.

He cannot win clearance or contested ball like a true inside mid. He doesn't get on the move around stoppages. He lets his opponent take the front spot and lead him to the ball and when he does win the ball he gets tackled. He often gets the kick or handball away because of his skill but he's never bursting through with any power from his legs. He's a nice mover in traffic, yes but he's rarely first hands-on or even first receiver.

His area for growth is around the stoppage and using his legs to break away into space.

Watch his VFL game against the Sharks he attended nearly every single center bounce and didn't win a single one. Watch his positioning and movement around the stoppages and tell me what you think?
Not surprised, Clark is not a true mid, basically a half back flanker in juniors and only played the last TAC cup year as a mid and did well enough. But competing against above average mids/ elite mids with bigger bodies, he struggles.

Bad news - I've heard that Clark is definitely on the move.

Apparently is disgusted that he's only been selected for 21 of the last 44 Saints games.

Sick of being overlooked by the selection panel. Reckons they have it in for him.

Reckons he'll get more of a chance with other clubs, Dons are the frontrunners.
Righto

Didn't try to keep him, was basically pushed out otherwise he would still be a swan.
He would have stayed had Goodes retired, but when he decided to play on, Tim could see the writing on the wall And was open to offers if I recall correctly.

Those are the players we should be chasing, players not getting the opportunity….unfortunately we’re going to lose Bytel for the same reason.
