Matthew Guy. Can a mediocre leader with a 3rd rate team win government?

Ive sat in planning meetings in the last eight weeks for the expansion of a major hospital in the west; a $1.2B expansion that would effectively triple bed capacity over the next 10-15 years. So yes, you can do both.

Todays announcement for a childrens hospital in Werribee ignores the existence of the Kirner Womens and Children’s Hospital in Sunshine (opened in the last 2-3 years) and the expansion of existing facilities, which includes PPPs For under-utilised existing facilities.

The Libs have no history of developing healthcare and no history of interest in anything or anybody west of South Yarra. Georgie Crozier is singularly useless in the health portfolio. Hasnt been across her brief for years.
The problem with the health system all lies at a federal level.

1/ the failures in aged care which dump patients in the public hospital system
2/ the failures of Medicare which shifts patients from GP’s to hospital emergencies.

Both of these issues have been turbo charged by CoVid.

You could build a million hospitals, but there are no staff.

People need to be better served before they get anywhere near a hospital.

Where will they get the nurses to staff it from? I think based on what has happened in the last 6 months they will Hoover them up from the northern.

Agree on aged care. Operated to deliver a profit margin, lax regulatory environment.

Medicare indexation has been frozen regularly as a budget measure by both governments. Rebates for gp services received no indexation for six years. There was no indexation in other areas for decades. That can’t and won’t be fixed.

Universal bulk billing is not sustainable for providers relying on Medicare. That model has sailed for many providers.

If they start opening additional training places now they’ll have staff for when it’s ready in 10 years.

Noticed something interesting last night when watching the AFLW when they showed the shorter version of the Liberal ad where he claims he'll take all the funding from the suburban rail network and put it into health. While he's talking I noticed he's shaking his head a lot which I thought was strange (for some reason he doesn't do it as much on the longer version of the ad or maybe they just cut it out of that one).

Anyway, looking at websites on body language, they suggest that if someone is shaking their head while talking they generally don't believe in what they're saying. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if that was the case here too.

To me he sounded so wooden as well.

This is the same Premier that put elderly people in room arrest in their nursing homes, created mental health issues for thousands of young school children by isolating them from their peers. Ramped up the pandemic to hysterial levels.

Andrews though his actions proves the is a fine line between socialism and fascism.
My mum was never under room arrest in her nursing home

The Liberals flew Tony Abbott in to rally the troops. Oh dear.

Turnbull is never going to do it or be invited. Next stop is Morrison lol

Jeez it is dire for the Liberals
Always nice to hear at a Liberal Party fund raiser, that he needs to remind the attendees that a shouldn't vote Teal, Labor or Greens if they want to win government.

But I 'spose he put as much effort into that speech as they do into policy.

Side note. First corflute sighted in my street today.

Don't be surprised if the Victorian Coalition ask prominent Liberals like Peter Costello, Michael Kroger, Josh Frydenberg, to help with the campaign, but not Malcolm Turnbull, Scott Morrison or Jeff Kennett.

It wouldn't have done Matthew Guy's mood any good when he switched on the TV news to see fellow Liberal (and NSW Premier) Dominic Perrottet standing alongside his Victorian counterpart Daniel Andrews during that recent joint Vic/NSW health announcement. It was like Perrottet has all but endorsed Andrews to continue as Premier of Victoria, at the upcoming state election.

What an idiot! :roflv1:
