Delisted 13. Liam Stocker

Plenty of players are exited if they don't follow game plans and or can't. Stocker may do well somewhere else which utilises his preferences and benefits perhaps from an improved level of fitness which may or may not eventuate - but not being able to run out a VFL level game is ...probably not what Carlton needs atm.

Sadly I lose a player from my ticks the mongrel box list at Carlton. Happily, the club has gained a few points in showing some mongrel not only in the Stocker decision but the way it is managing fringe player's expectations. Long may it continue.

I think what is most disappointing is that we have chosen to delist him rather then trade him. There is some value there even if just a third rounder. In the current age of points and live pick trading, that can certainly be used if we have no intention of actually using a pick that late.
I doubt that he would have been delisted if there were interested parties.

Why would you say you were interested if you thought Carlton would delist him? No need to indicate your interest until much later. Like we should have done with Saad? Austin should give “Negotiation Genius: How to Overcome Obstacles and Achieve Brilliant Results at the Bargaining Table and Beyond” by Deepak Malhotra and Max Bazerman” or “Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It” by Chris Voss and Tahl Ra a read.

I think the most disappointing thing is giving up Caleb Serong or Hayden Young because SOS wanted to cosplay as an NFL recruiter.

Both Carlton and any interested club would go through his manager. The manager would prefer a trade than delisted.

I think he might get an opportunity to train with a club and if he goes hard enough get a lifeline in Feb through the SSP, but I doubt he'll get picked up earlier than that.

Clubs got together recently to discuss player movements.

On one hand, you would think we'd have thrown up Stocker to garner interest, and presumably received none given the decision to delist him.

On the other hand, teams don't have incentive to show interest if they believe they can get the player as a DFA. Also not all teams will have finalised their strategies and targets, and even these can change during trade period.

It seems far too early to conclude that Stocker wouldn't yield any return.

Damien Barrets sliding doors today says “Stocker rubbed more than a few blues the wrong way”.
And Akermanis rubbed the coach and nearly all the players the wrong way. Didn’t stop him becoming a best and fairest, Brownlow medallist, and 3 time premiership player including 5 goals in one of them. Also played 300 games

Akermanis played 72 games in his first 4 years, kicked 76 goals.
A bit of a different output to Stocker, don't you reckon?

I didn't think it was a big deal when I found out in 2020 that he wasn't very popular. I mean, who cares if he can footy?

The problem was that we got more out of a midseason rookie draftee than Stocker this year.

I can only surmise that Stocker is a non football related issue. I think he easily showed enough to stay on the list given who else we have on it and his age profile.

I felt he looked over weight and from my own personal opinion didn’t look in great mental shape on media bits that he was involved in throughout the year.

Maybe the coaching group felt they couldn’t impact on him going forward hence delisting. He is one player that we have delisted I hope proves Carlton wrong.

We are still missing that aggressive defensive trait in our back 6/7. That player that wants the ball first and foremost over a handball receive. We need a sacrificial defensive player with hardness.
Hmmmm must be something along those lines....you are true....[he had been a bit average and not that fit]but very strong and forceful

just didnt work did it?

It was a disaster.

Our only hope from that trade is Kemp and Philp step up. Had SOS done the trade but not tried to be cute with Kemp (being out injured for the next year), he could have drafted Georgiades or SDK instead.

Georgiadis was a bit of a surprise reach by Port. He was injured most of his draft year.

Those latter selections are so hit or miss that it's understandable if we didn't get the best possible player at each selection. The fact that we gave up a top 5 pick for three of those hit or miss selections is the big issue.

Thought this is pretty cool....although the only player not on a list is Stocker himself ☹️

That's a really weird way to follow every little smidgen of a related trade... but we turned a future 1st and a 2nd rounder into Stocker, Philp and Kemp, which should have been ok in theory.

The problem? We're yet to play three midfielders in the midfield for more than 5 minutes, and now we've delisted one because of how disenfranchised it made him. Another one has been stuck on a similar path but is breaking free of it through sheer force of will - not club help - and the third has picked up a huge case of the fumbles after finger and wrist injuries.

We keep failing to figure out how a football department is meant to come together.

Those mid-range picks are always a bit of a crap shoot. But with a top 5 pick you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a player at least as good as SPS or Dow.
