One of the greatest and most decorated players of tbe 21st Century.

Is fitting he leaves our great game in the same way he started. With a Premiership Medal.

Always been a class act, on and off the field

Enjoy your retirement mate, it was a privilege to watch you play (except against Carlton :) )

This was always going to happen unfortunately, everyones reaction to him kicking that goal pretty much highlighted that. Tom Hawkins afterwards was hugging him while weeping.

Finished out on top. A great player for a long period of time. Hard as nails. A slight blight on his career was definitely the way he played for free kicks for the entirety of his career which hurts his legacy in my eyes. It's the elephant in the room.

Look everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But anyone who actually lives and breathes football should be capable of telling the difference between a player who plays for free kicks, and a player who tries to break tackles and forces an opponent to give them away

Future hall of famer and legend of the game. One of the all time great leaders. Congratulations on an incredible career at the highest level. Seems like a great bloke off-field as well. Deserves to retire as a premiership captain!

As a hawks supporter this will forever sting!!! What hurts more is Xavier Ellis, begged the club to draft Selwood..the rest is history

2005 AFL draft:

Pick 6- Mitch Thorp
Pick 7- Joel Selwood

I do believe that he invented the lifting the arm technique. And he really paved the way for the way that guys like Ginnivan and Weightman play these days. A great player but I just didn't like this aspect of his game.

Yeah, we might have made a mistake there :)

Magnificent career and probably has claims on being the greatest Geelong player ever.
