This thread is for the 2023 Draft Order.

Through the trade period I will try and keep it as up to date as possible, but I am one person so please be patient. :)

I have also set up threadmarks on the round updates, and will do the same through the trade period as picks change hands. This allows you to put the thread in reader mode, only seeing updates, or to jump back and forth to particular trades that may be of interest. To access this feature please use the button at the top right corner of the thread.

Tag me if you notice anything that isn't quite right!

Do we know if the North priority picks will be locked in a position, or tied to North's finishing position yet?

I haven't seen anything, but haven't been paying much attention.

They're tied to North's finishing position, although whether they're directly after North's own pick, or directly before it, isn't specified.

The AFL has given the Kangaroos a second-round pick and third-round pick for 2023 on the proviso they are traded for at least one player, as well as granting the Roos two extra list spots, which AFL.com.au revealed last month was a key part of their pitch to headquarters.

The extra selections won't carry into 2023 for North Melbourne if they are not traded this year, but will be tied to North's finishing position next year for whoever ends up with them, creating a marketplace for rival clubs to take them from the Roos.

Bobby Hill (GWS) and pick 40 to Collingwood for Pick 43 and F2 (Coll)
Acres (Fremantle) to Carlton for a future 3rd round pick (Carl)

I thought the future 2nd was the one tied to GWS?
The wording of the tweet suggests otherwise. Usually if it's on-traded it will be clearly marked as such, instead they describe the pick as "its" as in belonging to it/Brisbane.

Although it wouldn't be the first time something wasn't correct.

Yeah think it was misreported earlier.

Yeah think it was misreported earlier.
It often is. Sometimes a three way trade is reported when it's actually two separate trades, sometimes the wrong picks are quoted, or some are missed out to make it look better for whoever is reporting it.

That's why we always wait for AFL House, because even if they make errors sometimes, it's supposed to be representative of what was on the paperwork, not a marketing stunt.

Apparently we actually got Collingwood's future 2nd too, not GWS's, which we still have.

Always fun this time of year.

Huh? Where was that reported?
On the AFL app

“Brisbane also received a future second-round pick, tied to Collingwood after a trade for Bobby Hill, in its pick-swap with GWS. It then sent that 2023 selection, alongside pick No.46, to Gold Coast as part of the Berry trade.”

So Gold Coast and Brisbane both believe the Berry trade involved GWS’s future 2nd:

Which aligns with the AFL website’s trade tracker:

Meanwhile the AFL website’s draft order matches the AFL House tweet, that the pick was Brisbane’s own and Brisbane kept GWS’s future 2nd.

I can’t find anything about Collingwood’s pick being on-traded by GWS.

Both the Brisbane and GWS versions of the pick swap just say “a future 2nd” which if not specific should refer to the pick tied to the club giving it up (unless they already did give it up and only had one such pick remaining).
