We didn't want to do the Bowes deal. 1.7 was too much for pick 7 apparently
No, it wasn't.

The hang up is that Bowes didn't want to play for St Kilda when Geelong & Hawthorn were options.

No issues from the club. All up to him and he said 'pass'.

We’re really seeing what happens when you’re smack bang in the middle of the road club. Teams above and under us are a more appealing proposition and it doesn’t help we’re the most unsuccessful team in the AFL.

Players will go to Geelong or Brisbane for obvious reasons. Hawks look more appealing than us, they seem to be building something under Mitchell and people are more inclined to think Hawks are bound to voice back given their recent success. North have the Clarko factor (for now) and even with the debacle secured Logue.

Here’s hoping Walsh can be the catalyst to a culture shift into a winning mentality and only then can we look to attract big names

our ITK who mostly speaks on PM these days said the club didn;t think wearing the bowes salary was worth pick 7

we didn't wan the deal

Not great when he says he sees himself as an Essendon man now rather than a St Kilda man but that seems to be more due to him being there more recently and knowing more people there rather than them having a better culture. Our culture might not be great but it's surely better than Essendon's.
Hell be busy making his movie about him and his time at Essendope. Obviously distracted.

Clearly the Dockers were happy to let him go.for a reason

Funny, we got more for Long than they did for Acres...

But apparently we got shafted 🤔
We traded Acres because the cost of retrieving footies from roof trusses at Docklands was killing our bottom line.

Channel Seven’s Mitch Cleary believes GWS could be open to trading Lachie Whitfield.

Whitfield, 28, still has five years left on a bumper seven-year deal with the Giants and shedding his sizeable contract could help the club refresh.
While the outside player hasn’t been officially linked to any move, Cleary believes the length of contract and amount owing to Whitfield could convince the Giants to trade him if a suitor emerges.

“I think deep down the Giants would be open to trading Lachie Whitfield,” Cleary said on SEN Mornings.

“As you say, it’s just a matter of finding a suitor, but things can emerge late in trade periods, clubs get desperate.”

After missing out on free agent Jordan De Goey, Cleary believes a club like St Kilda could emerge as a suitor for Whitfield, particularly as they’ve announced their ambitions to add more top-end talent to their list.

“Look at St Kilda, they started and walked in day one of the trade period on Monday and said, ‘We’re here for more A-grade talent, we’ve got good players, but we need better players’,” Cleary said.

“But right now, all they’ve brought in is Zaine Cordy and they missed on Jordan De Goey.”

Considering St Kilda has the money available that they would’ve spent on De Goey, Cleary feels they have the cap space to take Whitfield’s contract on.

“They obviously had $850,000 – 900,000 sitting in their salary cap for Jordan De Goey and he hasn’t taken that, so would a club like St Kilda get involved for Lachie Whitfield?,” Cleary asked.

“He’s got links there, Gubby (Graeme) Allen spent time with Lachie Whitfield at the Giants, we know what those two have been through together.

“So, I wouldn’t be surprised if a club came late for Lachie Whitfield, I don’t think it’s happened yet.

“But I think the Giants would be open to those conversations if it was to emerge.”

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey believes Whitfield or defender Nick Haynes could be put on the trade table if Richmond aren’t able to land a trade for midfielder Jacob Hopper.

It’s a GWS salary dump. Nothing more. And there has been some discussion that they are still in significant salary cap difficulty.

The Giants would have to put a very early pick on the table for us to contemplate that. He has 5 years left of his contract and has been bog average over the past 2 years.

Put pick 3 on the table and we might think about it.

Oh, so the people running club are incompetent? That JDG coin being put to great use elsewhere instead of just buying a top 10 draft pick.

Cool, cool...

When does Tassie start up?

Look, he's right in what he is saying. I dont think he is taking what he is saying lightly either.

Brutally honest in the way he went about it.

We are copping a few free hits at the moment and we deserve pretty much every one.
Wonder if he thinks the culture at Essendon is good? It’s certainly special.

no idea what we are doing with all the coin but the club decided that pick 7 wasn;t worth buying

You do realise that the dockers are getting jackson and are reducing the salary cap and getting the picks to get luke jackson?
You do realise we traded acres for nothing and freo got pick 47 which is the compo for jones?
So we get 0 for acres freo who are miles ahead of us get pick 47 for a player we gave them for free
That's my point

Sorry mate, Goddard got tipped out by the football guru known as Pelchen.

The same bloke that got rid of a triple premiership ruckman for a set of steak knifes.

Goddards a life member of our club and should have played well over 300 games with us.
Do you remember how angry Goddard was to be there in the end. His instant finger pointing and complaints? Then he joined the church of Hird and drank the cool aid.

It is absolute incompetence, that's what it is.

I'd offer up a 2nd rounder only if GWS were paying 500k per year.

That deal makes Hanna's look palatable.

This is our view apparently

Supporters are seeing the pick 7 and none of the other major issues with the Bowes trade.
Bowes is owed $850,000 x 2. Extraordinary money for what is essentially a poor man’s Dunstan.
Now, Bowes management had told prospective clubs that he’s happy to smooth out that money over a 4 year contract. So while the next two years may drop down to $700,000 odd you’re still committing extra salary cap to a VFL player in 2025/26.
Once we did the maths we just didn’t think it was worth the TPP hit to take on pick 7 in what is a very even draft between 5-20.
Irresponsible for not bringing in pick 7? Or responsible TPP management?
Well done Saints.

All that's true but the fact is he's a crap bloke from a crap family and he loves dumping on StKilda

Goddard is a legend period. If I got treated like he did by the Saints I'd be dirty too.

His performances in three premiership games, gives him the right to say what ever the f%%k he likes about us.

The posters on this forum have little or no knowledge to how much he loves St Kilda.

We went all in on De Goey and turned a blind eye to the deal that made sense and met the plan as put forward by Walsh.
Should have brought Walsh in six weeks ago - might have made a difference.

However, if, as you say, salary cap is not an issue, why wouldn’t we go all in on De Goey as well?

It makes no sense we weren’t interested in the Bowes deal - of course they would have asked the question. It does make sense that he said outright he wasn’t interested in the Saints. What are we going to do, hold a gun to his head?

Salary cap may have been an issue - in which case Moorabbin Ghost posted the reasons why it didn’t make sense for our TPP.

Seeing players fall into clubs laps is painful to watch when even the player we expected to be busting his arse to come home brushed us - twice.
Bing.
Thanks to a hefty increase in his wallet from the AFL.
