Goddard is a legend period. If I got treated like he did by the Saints I'd be dirty too.

His performances in three premiership games, gives him the right to say what ever the f%%k he likes about us.

The posters on this forum have little or no knowledge to how much he loves St Kilda.
If we had of won in 2010 there would be a statue out in front of Moorabbin of that mark he took.

To be honest, we should welcome his input.

Should have brought Walsh in six weeks ago - might have made a difference.

However, if, as you say, salary cap is not an issue, why wouldn’t we go all in on De Goey as well?

It makes no sense we weren’t interested in the Bowes deal - of course they would have asked the question. It does make sense that he said outright he wasn’t interested in the Saints. What are we going to do, hold a gun to his head?

Salary cap may have been an issue - in which case Moorabbin Ghost posted the reasons why it didn’t make sense for our TPP.
There was room in the cap for A SINGLE BIG DEAL.

It was set up for Bing.

Now ultimately. You can save it and go after say, Anderson.

But there are 2 issues. If he doesn’t come. We are in the same situation as now.

And

We have effectively ruled ourselves out of the race for pick 7 which actually hinders our ability to meet our draft strategy as outlined by Walsh if we actually find a target who wants to come and needs to be traded for I.e Noah Anderson

You do realise that the dockers are getting jackson and are reducing the salary cap and getting the picks to get luke jackson?
You do realise we traded acres for nothing and freo got pick 47 which is the compo for jones?
So we get 0 for acres freo who are miles ahead of us get pick 47 for a player we gave them for free
That's my point
Freo could have let anyone go and decided that Acres wasn't worth worrying about

In terms of Jackson. If they need to get picks for him then why would they be happy to give away Acres for a future 3rd round pick?

Shouldn't that be more incentive to get a good deal for Acres? 🤔

The only way you'd take $5M 28yo Whitfield in a 5 year deal is if Pick 12 came with him.

Even then....probably pass
Even then they would need to pay 300 to 350k a year.
700k for Whitfield and 12 would be a worthwhile risk.

All that's true but the fact is he's a crap bloke from a crap family and he loves dumping on StKilda

Well at least he has the runs on the board at St Kilda to be able to dump on us, he was a great player for us and like a lot of our players from that era he deserved to be a premiership player. Apart from Lenny no one did more to get us across the line in that 2010 drawn grand final and he would have been a deserving Norm Smith medal winner too. It wasn't his fault that he left St Kilda either, he was basically pushed out the door like Dal Santo was.

May look even less attractive when GCS say they want Pick 38 back from Geelong as part of the deal.
Not really. We've known all along there was going to be something else going back.

Geelong will be the big winners of the trade period. Don't think they will lose any sleep about losing pick 38

he's no legend

No, it wasn't.

The hang up is that Bowes didn't want to play for St Kilda when Geelong & Hawthorn were options.

No issues from the club. All up to him and he said 'pass'.
He toured the facilities of Essendon, Hawthorn and Geelong we were out of the equation we were not interested
But what would I know?
How about a 6x Trevor Barker winner 5x all Australian 4x stkilda leading goalkicker saying the same thing
Goddard a 200 game player is saying its not the same environment where is the ruthlessness and hardness that made us a whisker from winning a premiership
Our longest serving and arguably best captain is beside himself with the designs our club is making
And I am delusional

Didn't you hear? Freo letting Acres go for a future 3rd was absolutely RUTHLESS trading though.
St Kilda would never had pushed for such a high pick.

By nobody. Unwanted by two clubs, soon it will be three.

I think he is fantastic value for a third round pick.

But he isn’t a match winner or an integral player at 2 clubs now.

Ultimately, he is a nice luxury too have - But first out the door to help facilitate when better is on offer.

That’s now fact at 2 clubs.

Not great when he says he sees himself as an Essendon man now rather than a St Kilda man but that seems to be more due to him being there more recently and knowing more people there rather than them having a better culture. Our culture might not be great but it's surely better than Essendon's.

Why wouldn’t Goddard want to go back to the Saints and offer to help? He grew up at the club and had his greatest moments in football there.

And what was the significance of the comment he made when asked about St Kilda’s past player’s network? He said that it was another story or some such thing.

I was sad to see that. It seems he has never accepted that we let him leave as a free agent at the end 2012.

He just doesn’t want to go home and help and would rather throw rocks from afar.

Sorry fat fingers - our Pick 28 if we were trying to do the deal.

Interesting that Bowes announced he was off to Geelong a couple of days ago yet no trade announced yet.

Would have thought it would have been straight forward trade if its just a late pick coming back.

Funny how Dal doesn't hold the same resentment to the Saints and he exited in a similar fashion.

At the end of the day the boys from that era didn't win a flag so you're always at the clubs mercy when you get towards the end. Not saying the saints handled it well as I don't think they did but if Goddard had any self-awareness he would see his flaws and why they wouldn't blow the bank for him.

So

Taranto was worth 12 and 18 as a bnf winner at 24 years old but Brisbane thinks Dunkley is only worth somewhere around pick 40 after the swaps etc they want as a bnf winner at 25 years old.

I couldn’t figure out how they were gonna get Dunkley and their two father sons (who will both be top 5 most likely) and I’m even less sure now.

Hope the dogs don’t do it, the level of power imbalance in the AFL is cooked.

The absolute garbage on this thread. Qe got nothing for Acres? You plonker.
Hill is a better player than Acres AND we got rid of 500k x 2 off our books when Acres left.
Give yourself an uppercut.
Pick 47 we got 32 for Long, shows what the industry values Acres at. Ordinary.

He legitimately has the worst contract in the AFL today. Worse than Grundy, Adams, McGovern, Polec, Hill all of them.

His output-to-contract ratio is astonishing. 7 Years at $1,000,000 was insanity for a halfback flanker/winger - even for one that was as good as he was for about 18 months.

If we bring him in we're committing $1.9 Million a year to the halfback line between him and Hill until 2025. That's atrocious and I just can't stomach that we'd do it.
What about a Gold Coast special with a FRDP thrown in?

Gold Coast are pushing for a future 2nd in return for 7 and Bowes. It restricts Geelong's ability to get Henry and Bruhn however if that goes through as you can't trade your future 1st (say for Bruhn or Henry) if you've traded out any other future picks.
