Sorry fat fingers - our Pick 28 if we were trying to do the deal.

Interesting that Bowes announced he was off to Geelong a couple of days ago yet no trade announced yet.

Would have thought it would have been straight forward trade if its just a late pick coming back.
I'd have happily given up pick 28 in that deal

Not that strange IMO. Cats have plenty going on with Bruhn and Henry.

He only agreed yesterday. There's still over a week to go.

Gold Coast are pushing for a future 2nd in return for 7 and Bowes. It restricts Geelong's ability to get Henry and Bruhn however if that goes through as you can't trade your future 1st (say for Bruhn or Henry) if you've traded out any other future picks.
Looks as though theyll have to find another future 2nd. Don't think it will.be that hard though

The one thing that blows my mind, and has done with this administration is their (assumed) desire to look smarter than everyone else.
Time & time again, supporters, the media and wider AFL community have made statements and assessments of our list, game plan and execution and our club has continued to ignore it ‘because the know better’
Well we’ve played one finals campaign in the last decade. So it might be time to acknowledge that the know three fifths of * all
As frustrating as it can be as we sit in judgement from the outside and dictate exactly what we would do with each player, game plan etc your assumption is plain wrong.

Do you really want the club to make decisions based on what the media, wider AFL community and so-called experts who have no clue about what is going on inside the “four walls” as they say?

I don’t. But what I do want them to get is smarter brains and excellent, passionate footy people inside the club - and let’s hope that’s what Walsh and even Lenny will begin to provide. Enright appears to be a good pick up, hopefully we find a very good forward coach. And hopefully Walsh will provide clear leadership and direction for Ratts.

Latest Barrett Sliding Doors. Have to agree... our toe-dipping, release to media first before committing is truly infuriating. Have the balls to make a decision.

IF ...

the Saints three months ago went all-in on the project to land Jordan De Goey, rather than a toe-dipping, tread carefully approach ...

THEN ...

... they would have actually stood a chance to secure him. In early July, the Pies pulled their offer. That was the time St Kilda should have doubled down.
I’m sorry, but who quotes Barrett? What the hell would he know about how and when we approached De Goey? Does he actually realise how difficult it is to pry a free agent out of his club to go to a club in the same state?

De Goey loves the Pies, has stated as much, the only reason he was looking around is because they low balled him.

Barrett…LOL.

Long will go [emoji736]
Hill will stay[emoji736]
Clark will stay[emoji736]
Bowes prob wont come[emoji736]
Degoey will re sign [emoji736]

Well look at that
Who wouldve thunked it
Not really hard to predict though.

Didn't predict Acres would be steal of the draft did you? [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

So

Taranto was worth 12 and 18 as a bnf winner at 24 years old but Brisbane thinks Dunkley is only worth somewhere around pick 40 after the swaps etc they want as a bnf winner at 25 years old.

I couldn’t figure out how they were gonna get Dunkley and their two father sons (who will both be top 5 most likely) and I’m even less sure now.

Hope the dogs don’t do it, the level of power imbalance in the AFL is cooked.

Take it for what it’s worth, but Matt Rendell was really scathing of the Geelong and Brisbane recruiters. He reckons those two clubs are lowballing everyone and are holding up lots of deals.

In particular he was ripping into Andrew Mackie. Rendell was suggesting that Geelong want to bring in Henry and Bruhn but won’t deal with either pick 7, pick 18 or a future first. They were offering late second round picks for both players who were both drafted in the first round. Collingwood and GWS are starting to disengage.

Brisbane are demanding two second round picks back for Dunkley but have traded out pick 15. He said the Bulldogs are ready to just walk away as a matter of principle and let Dunkley go to the draft.

Sounds like there are a few cowboys at a few clubs not interested in win-win deals.

Only way I'd be happy to take on that contract would be a first round draft pick coming our way salary dump

Don't see that happening. If they are desperate to off load cap space they will just do the Hopper deal
You have identified the key change coming out of this trade period.
GC has irreversibly changed the market.
As soon as the words “salary dump” are spoken, interested counter parties will be asking for draft incentives not bargaining down the draft cost.
Two distinct markets will occur: a traditional market (what we are familiar with), and a salary dump market.
An amazing turnaround.
A smart club will take advantage of this to speed their rebuild or extend their dominance.
See Geelong.

Junction oval & MCG, thanks for coming.
Couldn’t get in on that junction deal, cricket have nailed that shut. Cricket always held the lease and bled us dry which was one on the reasons we moved to moorabbin. The old lakeside oval is leased to south Melbourne soccer club on some sweetheart deal they signed when Kennett got them to give up the dedicated soccer stadium at middle park. With masc etc it would have been ideal but unfortunately it just wasn’t ever really a possibility.

Pretty sure right at the start they said we’d be in for a quiet trade period and concentrate on the draft.

Based on what we’ve seen that seems completely accurate.

From all accounts the dogs team (sam power maybe?) told the lions pick 15 would be required for Dunkley so don’t trade it, lo and behold.

You’ve gotta think this damages a clubs rep for future trade targets. If the lions asked me to go I’d be very very skeptical based on this history.

He’s a gun, I’d be stoked to get him as a semi-salary dump price. I’d give our first rounder for him if we could get a pick swap of 2nds or 3rds in our favour.
If it’s a salary dump, that game has changed.
As counter party you should be demanding a FRDP, nothing back, for taking on that contract.

Barrett…LOL.

I quoted Barrett.

The club's representatives made a scattered approach to DeGoey which was reported across nearly every media outlet in the land. The St Kilda committee then questioned the football department for making such an poorly prepared approach,

Then they upped it when DeGoey started playing well.... seriously you either do it or you don't.

Now we fight to be relevant!!!!

Why wouldn’t Goddard want to go back to the Saints and offer to help? He grew up at the club and had his greatest moments in football there.

And what was the significance of the comment he made when asked about St Kilda’s past player’s network? He said that it was another story or some such thing.

I was sad to see that. It seems he has never accepted that we let him leave as a free agent at the end 2012.

He just doesn’t want to go home and help and would rather throw rocks from afar.

Some of our ex players like Riewoldt, Montagna and Goddard are happy to just stay in cushy media jobs rather than get their hands dirty with coaching.

At least Dal Santo put his hand up to coach our AFLW team along with his cushy media job.

I certainly don’t want them to listen to the media, but it’s also pretty startling when so many people share the same objective view.
You’re absolutely right about getting passionate footy people in. I think we’ve tried to be too calculated with out approach.

Riewoldt will come back... he's just biding his time.

You wait and see.

How do you know this?

Was my read of it given he didn't bother to tour the club.

I've since been informed that it's not Bowes not wanting to play for the Saints, it's the Saints continuing their inept management.

Bowes might be a spud (he was pretty good before his injury TBH) but he comes with a top 10 pick attached.

Given the club missed out on their big money FA target, doing a deal to essentially buy a top end draft pick would make sense.

To rule yourself out of that would imply there's another use for that money.

What that is, we don't know. There's been zero talk of us seriously enquiring about any other players.

We've been named in hypotheticals on Crouch, Mitchell and Whitfield. None of these would drastically improve the list.

TL : DR - Club isn't just shit ATM, it's incompetent.
