If Ross Lyon returns to St Kilda.

I reckon St Kilda should play Freo in Perth in Round 1 in a prime time match.

It would be the perfect return to coaching for Ross against his last club.

The match already sells itself just with the RTB factor and what reception he gets from the Freo crowd.

Well, one rumour:

Thursday March 16
Richmond v Carlton MCG

Friday March 17
Geelong v Sydney GMHBA

Saturday March 18
Essendon v Brisbane Marvel 1:45
Port v Hawthorn AO 4:35
Collingwood v Melbourne MCG 7:25
Gold Coast v West Coast Metricon 8:10

Sunday March 19
St Kilda v Adelaide Marvel 1:10
GWS v Bulldogs GS 3:20
Freo v North Optus 6:20
KP won't be ready for matches until between rounds 8-10

It's delayed due to not being able to work on site until after the T20 world cup final

Geelong will probably only have our MCG "home" game vs Hawthorn on Easter Monday as our only home game until KP is ready. Then our allotted 9 games after that.

Geelong could be playing at KP 9 Times between round 10 and 23

Nah, have them line up against the Hawks
angry jimmy GIF by South Park

Its obviously for money. All teams will still get 11 home games, the teams whos home state the magic round is in will get an extra home game id assume.
Should host it in Tassie IMO. Have Hawks vs North as one of the games.

Doubt we play at home round 1. Overdue for an interstate trip there.

Just one issue with that...

Not a leak but here’s my round 1 where almost every club would be fancied to win (Hawks face a tough ask but did thrash Port there last year)

Thu night - Richmond V Carlton, MCG
Fri night - Geelong V Sydney, MCG or GMHBA
Sat arvo - W Bulldogs V St Kilda Marvel
Sat twilight - Port V Hawthorn, AO
Sat night - Collingwood v Brisbane MCG
Sat night - Fremantle V Melbourne Optus
Sun early - North V West Coast - Marvel
Sun arvo - GWS V Essendon, Giants Stadium
Sun twilight - GC V Adelaide, Metricon

How’s that for a super Saturday night of footy!

Yes, Sunday is meh but all the good games are on Thu/Fri/Sat.

I reckon Geelong v Collingwood would be a good chance for Friday night round 1. The Horne-Francis game, North v Port you'd expect to happen round 1 or round 2 as well at Marvel.

yeah, sounds about right.. gifted 4 points to Port Power

Re: Magic Round, how would they structure it? NRL is 2 x Friday, 3 x Saturday and 3 x Sunday - AFL has an extra game plus the games are longer so I don't think you can do 4 in a day?
1 Thurs night
2 Friday
3 Saturday
3 Sunday

The AFL says the full fixture is not expected to be released until late November or early December.

If they're going to schedule North v Port in Melbourne Rd 1 in order to give football fans a reason to watch a North game for once, please don't play it in Hobart.

Bit unfair imo. Just because you're home ground isnt finished doesnt mean you can compromise the fixture!!

Really so if we had 4-5 interstate trips in the 1st 8 weeks is that fair ?

I can see the fixture being

RD 1 Sydney SCG
RD 2 Collingwood (away MCG)
RD 3 Adelaide (AO)
RD 4 Hawthorn (MCG) Easter Monday
RD 5 Fremantle (OS)
RD 6 Richmond (MCG)
RD 7 GWS (Canberra)
RD 8 Brisbane (GABBA)
RD 9 Essendon (KP - Unfurl Premiership Flag)

That seems like a lot of effort to work the fixture around the unavailability of the ground. Can't Geelong just play their home games at the MCG or Marvel during the first 9 weeks?

When Gold Coast couldn't play at Metricon until Round 11 due to the Commonwealth Games, they still hosted games in Round 1 (Cairns), Round 3 (Optus Stadium in Perth), Round 8 (at the Gabba) and Round 9 (China). They were given a post China bye earlier than the bye rounds in Round 10. 4 official home games and 5 official away. Once the ground was available, they went with the usual 1 week home 1 week away set up, aside from 2 home games in a row for a game against Brisbane, and played 7 home and 6 away.

In other words, the fixture wasn't dramatically compromised just to cater for them.

Geelong shouldn't get special treatment, they should get a normal, close to even run of home and away games rather than having them all banked up. I bet the AFL does cater to what Geelong wants though, because of course they will.

100% they will

They could market the games as MCG home games = Melbourne, Collingwood, Geelong
