Said it before, this isn't the first time we've picked up a forward named Evans after 4 years at Geelong.

The first one was kinda handy.
Tim Evans played as a defender for Geelong, and played a season or two as a defender at Port before being switched to a permanent forward in 1977. So I'm not sure we picked him up as a forward. Still its a good story.

Is there anyone available by the surname of Delaney that we can draft as a full forward, and then switch to full back?

Before that a bloke called John Abley came across from Hawthorn as a ruckman but Fos stuck him at full back. The story goes that John Abley's brother Kevin had signed to play for Glenelg and invited his brother over to take a look around the Bay. Big Bob got wind of it and met John Abley at the Adelaide Railway Station and took him to Alberton instead. The only time Abley got to see the Bay Oval was when we flogged Glenelg down there, which was pretty often.

I have an idea that Lurch Elleway also came from the Riverland as a ruckman but Fos put him at fullback. When he first started Lurch was an indifferent kick but a short time with the likes of Chicken Hayes and Geof Motley soon corrected that.

To continue the full back conversion story Casper Sorrell was in my opinion a so so half forward but Jack tried him at fullback and it worked as did the Fiacchi conversion from a Reserve grade rover to a class back pocket.

Abley, Elleway, Sorrell, Evans, Delaney, Fiacchi etc Port have a long tradition of converting players but of course that was another age when we had Coaches with insight and inspiration- alas we do not have that at this time.

Uncle? Cousin? Ammos coach?

Surely not just a random punter commenting about the most uninspiring pickup of the season
Most of you lot are certainly living up to the reputation that Port supporters are worse than Collingwood supporters.

You'd think that bad club supporters refers to being one-eyed, but most of you guys are like 'reverse one-eyed'... as in having a go at your own player.

How's the racism scandal going?

Played full back in the 76 grand final, 12 months later kicks a lazy 7 at full forward in the 77 grand final.

Turn it up pal..

tbh mate I'm happy to give Evans a run and will back him in as a player

Just calling out how odd it is for you (a hawthorn fan???) to jump on THIS thread of all threads to make a stand about the morals of an oppo fanbase

When Tim first landed in South Australia he was contemplating going to West Torrens and I had an idea he may have played a trial game with them. I got to know Tim pretty well when he was Bar Manager at the Port Club in the 1990s. He originally came from Penguin in Tasmania. I do not think Tim is any relation to Francis Evans, thought I should mention that so my post has some relevance in this thread. :)

These are not the words of someone who has no personal connection with evans. If you ever ventured into any other thread you'd see plenty of people questioning any pickup with 'do we really need that type of player/quality of player.'

But this is the only thread you venture in to gargle on a unknown players bollocks

Francis said he followed Hawthorn growing up it's all pointing to a family member.

"Most of you lot" is a ridiculous generalisation. Most Port supporters would be wishing Frank all the best every time he pulls on a Port guernsey.

Attributing the thoughts of a few negative nancies to the majority of the supporter base is absurd.
