VAFA General Discussion

Expect the future of Elsternwick Park/Sportscover Arena to be a very hot topic of discussion at this year's VAFA AGM. The VAFA had their opportunity to move their playing HQ to Sandringham as far back as 2004, but were convinced in their annual report that 'Elsternwick Park had enough pluses to warrant its retention as the playing HQ of the VAFA'. What the VAFA should've done was to split its HQ in two-the non-playing side (ie tribunal, board meetings etc) at Sportscover Arena, but the on-field stuff (ie h & a games, rep footy, finals, grand finals (Premier-Premier C) would be at Sandringham. Instead they missed the opportunity of a lifetime, and are now paying for it-big time.

There was talk a few years ago of finding a more central oval. Playing surface aside it's a helluva long trek in traffic for a lot of clubs.

Announced before the day that they were moving it to a better venue. It wasn't a secret that it was in a poor state.
Yes Jascave, I wouldve moved it to another Venue on Sunday (Even tho A Grade teams wouldve got upset) or even move it to the holiday Friday same as C Grade

That would be like AFL Victoria moving the VFL Grand Final to the MCG in place of the AFL GF, even though the clubs would be upset, would never happen in a million years.

The VAFA has announced that the 2023 season will start on Saturday 15th April, 2023, one week after Easter. The fixtures for each section (ie Premier, Premier C etc) will be released from late November onwards.
Thanks , what date is the AGM ?

BJ Goddard to St Kilda in a development Coaching role. Will Lethlean allow him to continue match day role at SKOBAFL when they don’t clash?

Less than 4 weeks from when the AGM MUST be held and my understanding is NO CLUB has been invited to put up candidates for election. How can this happen? How can Habel/ Stevens/ Hewitt etc have allowed this after relentlessly campaigning on a ticket of board transparency? Or are these "change crusaders" now content that they are on the inside?

This will bring Jase back lol

Any news on the make up of the Mens Divisions yet? Seems a pretty long time since the season finished and clubs still unsure on promotion/relegation and what division they will be in for 2023

St Mary's and Whitefriars are both playing D2

I believe Old Mentone might be playing at Le Page Park in Cheltenham and aligning with the Cheltenham Panthers . A long narrow ground.
Chelt Panthers are a feeder club for Cheltenham in Div 1 so zero chance of that happening, Le Page Park is possibly the only venue for Old Mentonians to play on so that’s why that’s in the conversation
