Could NATO say, maybe even off the record, to Russian officials - get rid of Putin, pull your troops back to Russia and we will leave you alone, otherwise we will destroy your country in a few months. What would Russia do then?
To me, that plays right into Vlad's "NATO is a threat to Russia" rhetoric and would simply serve to galvanise the powers that be.

US is hinting that is was an anti-air rocket by Ukraine. e will know soon when Ukraine wakes up shortly. They will shift tone quite quickly if this is the case. PR has been Ukraine's best and most effective weapon in this war and Poland is their biggest supporter.

It doesn't change the fact that the Anti-air rocket was only launched because Russia is a big crybaby who loves to bomb cities. Without Putin, this missile would never have been launched.

They could do that if they want, but doing so would encourage Putin to cross lines and boundaries knowing that there will be no consequences.

Doing something he the risk of giving Putin a propaganda win (Totally unprovoked from NATO!!!)

Russia seems to be struggling for motivation in this war. Best keep it that way.

Definitely a Ukrainian missile.

But as you say, this changes nothing.

If its a Russian missile, fired at Ukraine, that missed, or if its a Ukrainian missile, fired at a Russian missile, that was fired at Ukraine, that missed, its still ultimately on Russia.

And I suspect this will be Poland's take.

I momentarily spotted one statement saying Poland spoke of the high likelihood that it was Ukrainian air defence, but haven't had time this morning to find news statements. Anyone know what NATO and/or Ukraine are saying about it? Just in a rush.

Polish president Duda:

Duda said during a news conference that the strike was "probably an accident" as Ukraine intercepted a barrage of incoming Russian missiles.

Thanks, yeah I guess what I saw was a paraphrase of this statement.

Terrible that the loss of lives from this invasion spreads beyond borders like this. One of the biggest arguments UKR has is that they have more accurate weapons :/ It's hoped that they are fully sympathetic and apologetic about this accident.

Would be very interested learn more. This was north of Lviv. I they were aimed at missiles in that general direction, then it suggests maybe the missiles they were looking for came from Belarus ... however maybe they could have been chasing something which was already gone overhead, or maybe it's a reciprocal error (coords sometimes misinterpreted as exact opposite of actual). Maybe they were just skewiff from the get-go.

So Ukraine about to be obliterated by the full strength of NATO?

No. They have not attacked anyone. This is a result of a cruise missile bombardment fired from Belarus at Ukraine.

If anything Poland will look to guarantee that Russia can no longer attack western Ukraine so this cannot happen again.

the missile components ive seen are consistent with russian S300 anti air missiles. Ukraine doesnt have enough western weaponry for all its point defence

S300's do have a secondary mode which allows them to be fired at ground targets.

However in this mode they are quite inaccurate. Their main purpose is air to air targets.

Yes, in response to such an attack by UAF forces on Polands integral territory and to ensure security, NATO should invade Ukraine and capture all of it up to the Russian border and bring it under their control…

Well played Ukraine!

S-300 missiles are supposed to self destruct in the air if they miss their targets after a specified time. So if it indeed was a Ukrainian one it was the debris after the blast falling on the Polish field which would be less of an impact than a live one hitting.

They are but they often malfunction. Sibir flight 1812 was destroyed by a S300 that failed to detonate after being fired at a target drone during military drills.

IF that is true, then Ukraine would be well within its rights to launch interdiction raids on the launching points and equipment in Belarus

They could but they won't as they dont want to fight a front against Belarus which would take away their resources on the eastern front. Ukraine is trusting the air defences to limit the collateral damage in these regions. Ukraine's main focus is to force out the invading force then establish defensive measures to protect their borders. If Belarus continues to allow attacks post this stage, then Ukraine will deal with them directly then with long range weapons to disable their capabilities. Call it Ukraine's "Special Decommissioning of Enemy Military Equipment Operation".

What's this moral equivalency crap? Zelensky, Putin, Poroshenko and the other vested interests are as culpable as each other. Don't try and run away from or hide from these truths: moral equivalency indeed! They are pigs, each and every one of them.
lol, no

In no way is Zelensky "as culpable" as Putin :drunk:

Belarus would have much more to fear from a Belarussian invasion of Ukraine than Ukraine would.

Even if it was.

Confirmed: Russia fire 90x missiles at Ukraine.....
Confirmed: A Russian made missile hits the edge of Poland in that encounter....

How can Russia categorically then argue it wasn't them and they're being setup? It's ridiculous.

Its the equivalent of arguing with a toddler. Simply accepting it just promotes more outbursts...

Poland/Nato should push their anti-missile defenses into Ukraine in the name of NATO country defense. Either manned directly by Poland, or get the Ukrainians to man them.

Why is it Russia are allowed to fire missiles far and wide over Ukraine and have little recourse? Yet if Ukraine were to do the same back at Russian soil they'd lose their collective minds over it and probably hit the nuke button.

Some SAM sites would have enough range to cover Ukraine's western region from the Polish border. No reason why Poland couldn't assist there as long as they target unmanned aircraft such as cruise missiles.
