Can Alistair Clarkson lead North to a premiership? Or has footy gone past him?

First day on the job - will be fascinating to see what he brings.

Lethal. 1st flag 5th year 4th flag 15th year 20 years total no finals last 4 years
Sheedy 1st flag 4th year 4th flag 21st year 29 years total no finals last 5 years
Clarkson 1st flag 4th year 4th flag 11th year 17 years total no finals last 3 years contracted north 5 years so guess career 21 minimum years

I dont really like Clarkson, but he is a 'modern' coach. In that I mean that he recognises it takes a team and that his role is as much about managing and listening to the assistant coaches as anything else. Coaches of lore such as Kennedy and Barassi or even Pagan and Lyon were very much solo coaches who only ever instructed - never a team effort. So Clarkson could do well, but there are now plenty of coaches who do the same, such as Hardwick, Scott and Longmire.

Pagan @ north, football mastermind. Pagan @ carlton, no idea Clarkson @ hawks, football mastermind. Clarkson @ north,no idea.
Players make coaches, always have, always will.

When Pagan got to Carlton they got stripped of draft picks because of the salary cap breach. Who knows what would have happened if they were allowed to draft kids. That year they had picks 1&2 which was Goddard and Wells, plus whoever else they would have drafted.

Pagan never had a chance.

No AFL or VFL coach has won 5 flags as coach since 1964.

Got more of a chance of Vince Russo running the AFL or WWE or AEW LoL
I could run all 3 of those better especially the last two.

He's not fit to coach young men anymore.

Why?

Club says he’s fit to coach AFL says he’s fit to coach.

Just because some Bigfooty numpty says so doesn’t mean a thing.

Just reinforces my point.

North goes far if clarko from 2004-11 is on board.
He would let other coaches take the reigns, and craved feedback.
2012 onwards he started becoming bigger than the team though, winning finals was amazing, but when it went belly up he refused to listen

RFC?

One player won three flags? No coaching? Come on now. Zero sum arguments are nearly ALWAYS good for a giggle.
You could be Jesus, Arsene Wenger and Jock McHale all rolled into one. If you don’t have the cattle you are ****ed !

He made a big point of saying he needed people around him to keep him in line when he did he the signing on press conference with Sonja Hood.

He doesn’t have a magic wand, any success he has will likely take years to build, looking at 2-3 years minimum and that’s with nailing drafts and attracting quality FA’s.
