THE one tournament of which have no control over who you represent. If Ronaldo was born perhaps 100-200kn inland, probably wins a World Cup already with Spain. Unfair really. Althougg Portugal could’ve made the final in 2006, just loss 1-0 v France.

Messi being born in Argentina just after Maradona retiring. It’s poetic.

Ronaldo should have represented the Socceroos through his grandparents. Would have won at least 3 Asian Cups!

Or 1000 kms south and he'd be in a world cup semi.

Not entirely on subject, but found this video of some of Zidane's trickery, against Brazil no less.

Zidane is remembered by many as the guy who headbutted another guy in a World Cup final. He also didn’t play in the prem so his skills weren’t on display in news reels and accessed much due to the predominant EPL bias. But There are a few vids online of Zidane showing his grace, balance, skills. Like any great player, he looked like he had all the time in the world, and when the opposition brought him down you absolutely knew it was a foul.

He also looked so unassuming, monk-like male pattern baldness

Aware of that. I was just trying to point out that even at 35 he’s still a great player

Messi's tournament as a player has really been extraordinary, especially at his age and given previous (and imo factually incorrect) reports of him failing at previous WC's.

His passing and general wizardry is something to behold, if you love football, how can you not appreciate Messi and his greatness.

Winking the WC definitely puts him over Ronnie in any modern day GOAT debate.

It has to be highlighted as well, whilst Argentina love the gamesmanship of diving and wasting time and whatever, Messi is very rarely guilty of this. For a guy that gets targeted every single game he invariably keeps his feet and keeps playing. When he does lose his feet he gets up. I really don't get how anyone can diss him.

Yes- been an absolute pleasure to watch him throughout this whole tournament.

The retirement home for aging stars, can't blame em.

Imagine he came to the A League?
We can dream.

It hasn't been that in at least 5 years.

Gvardiol has had an excellent WC but Leo completely mugged him off for the third goal. In hindsight he might have stepped across him as he initially received the ball. If France get to the final they might be looking to use tactical fouls without getting punished like they used against Saka.

This is an interesting take from over the Pacific....

Has this dickwad seen footage of a very young Messi?! And Sam McClure would have barely seen any games of Messi. Laughable shit you read every 4 years
