I don't mind missing Mudryk if we deem it too expensive but we still need to make signings. With Man City losing again, the league is massively in play.

The money is definetly available - from pursuits of Neto and Raphina in the summer to now an even bigger offer for Mudryk. Its more so about who is available and meets the criteria the club is looking for.

Clearly, Mudryk ticked all the boxes in terms of profile, characteristics etc. When Arteta identifies who he wants, the club spends big to get that particular player (White, Ramsdale, Jesus etc). Not sure if there's anyone else on that list this month however.

We saw last January that Arsenal will wait for the right player even if that means not signing anyone for the sake of signing someone - we don't have that luxury this window though with such a unique opportunity to gun for trophies in the next few months.

Proof will be in the pudding, so to speak. Here's hoping Chelsea have done a Nicola Pepe. He was too expensive. And left wing wasn't an area of acute weakness - Martinelli, ESR... then Nelson when fit. I'd rather we found a back up attacker to support Saka. And I wouldn't mind Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio either. There's talk around Ndicka from Frankfurt as well.

And Chelsea are a shit club. No history. As they say.

Kinda torn. I'm okay with the club not paying that sort of ridiculous money, but Arteta has a right to be angry that this wasn't done weeks ago tbh.

Yes torn as well. Can certainly appreciate both viewpoints. That’s an incredible outlay for someone unproven outside of their domestic league (eg Pepe). And that financial package could potentially be used for 2-3 additional players.

Conversely though, he was targeted for a specific reason. I think Arteta/Edu have proven themselves to be right in recent times in their recruitment.

I recall White being purchased for £50m being met with questions over whether that money could be used elsewhere within the squad. Over time though, no one really mentions his fee anymore because he’s that damn good.

It’s extraordinary (though not surprising) looking at Chelsea’s conduct in the market. Basically track who other clubs want and then throw the dumptruck at them.

Arsenal surely have other options in mind (Vieira came out of nowhere with no reporting prior to it happening). Whether they’re attainable now or not, that’s the risk we have to see play out.

That kind of money would be ok for a proven forward.
Should be able to find a youngish winger for a lot less.
Kvara cost about €12.
Yeah feel like at that price we could get 2 quality players or 1 gun proven player.

As others have implied, odds are on Mudryk to become an elite footballer considering our vast reservation price for him. Not the worst conspiracy to believe Chelsea have been tapping up our ITKs as a left-field recruitment strategy. Makes one wonder about the level of access the Athletic stable of Orn/Gb/Art will have moving forward. Liverpool come across as a club that gets business done swiftly (Fabinho, Jota for e.g.).. though perhaps they're just more discreet.

Mudryk and Shaktar played this very publicly. Unusual considering how most clubs are coy about their dealings. I don't think our ITK's had a lot of difficulty getting info out with this one.

I also think our ITK's received a bit of a message with the way Fabio Viera was signed completely out of the blue. The final fortnight of this window will be quite interesting now.

How could we possibly **** this up? We were keen since the start of the season.

We were willing to spend over 70 million, so why haggle and not just stump up the price. Just rubbish stuff from the club.

This will he another Hazard. Let's just hope we don't panic and end up with another Gervinho equivalent.

At least the memes are tasty.

The wages difference sounds pretty significant. 100k a week v 200k plus.

Plus a 7 year deal. Added to that their bonuses were more realistically attainable apparently. It's a shame to miss out but it probably damages us more down the track if other clubs think we'll pay past our limits. I will say though it was a kick in the teeth though going to bed expecting the deal would probably get done only to click in on Chelsea gazumping.

Funnily enough the rumour mill this morning was that we'll turn our sights onto Raphinha.
