Any thoughts on Newcastle with oil money, flying high in top 4, reluctant to spend money to improve their squad.

Signing only Anthony Gordon for the first team is a little underwhelming for a club with big ambitions.

Howe strikes me as conservative. An "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" type. And Newcastle are going pretty well ATM.

If they finish season with Europe next year, particularly if it's CL, you'd expect them to pull the trigger pretty hard over summer.

Think it’s pretty sensible, they’re playing really well so why buy players just for the sake of it?

Theyve got a big Saudia sponsorship coming too dont they?
probably but until the get european money coming in regularly it doesnt really mean much. they're still years off being a realistic, sustained challenger.

It's hard to get players coming from CL sides to non-CL/European football with the promise of it might happen next year. Look where West Ham were at this stage the last 2 seasons.... they dropped off and missed CL one season and missed Europa the next.

Hence why Everton overpaid on salaries & transfer fees to get players into the club. It lead to our eventual downfall though by then not meeting the profit & sustainability criteria.

It's funny, had Everton received the cash injection of Moshiri in the 00's, we'd be a modern day Top 6 club IMO. As is the luck of Everton, it came, but it came too late and FFP now makes it so no club can rock the Top 6 boat.

For Newcastle to break into the Top 6, they need more than the Saudi's. They need CL football, regularly and they need to raise their wage budget slowly. The good news for them, is it looks like CL football could be achieveable.

Yet FFP says they can spend a *load still. Might as well create the superleague and * em all off

Big Toddy Boehly when someone tells him he’ll have to wait 5 months to sign another forward.

Rice and Caicedo?
If they can land both then the future is quite secure. That kind of stuff reminds me of the days when AC Milan would have a squad just for the European Cup and one for the domestic league and both were practically as good as each other.

Rice, Caicedo, Partey, Xhaka, Jorginho right in the heart will do me.
