In Europe there is a crazy doctor who is actually repairing ACLs by placing a synthetic sleeve of sorts over the damaged acl.

Apparently trims the immediate recovery by Atleast half.

Crazy stuff. No idea what that does in the long term. But we are probably getting closer to magic sprays
Injuries are the worst thing about sport. If they can turn most long term injuries into short term annoyances it would be a game changer

Every player will have multiple roles.

Paton is playing wing and defence this summer.

Owens key forward and Mid/ruck

Higgins/Butler some Midfield minutes

So Wood will play key forward at times. Especially early on.

If half way through round 1 Ryan and Pearce are dominating the air. It’s probably our only logical move
Since when were Higgins and Butler playing any midfield minutes?

the only reason I'm a little worried about moving Wood to the HFF is that he's come off essentially a career best year on the wing and that he was delisted from North while playing that half forward ish role.
Personally I still think his best extended patch of footy for us was when he was playing that high-HF role in those last few games before injury the year before.

Was getting up and back really well and was generally the link between the backline and forwardline, and was also tackling a bunch up front (7 tackles in a couple of those games and was having a lot of tackles inside 50).

And of course his best game by far last year was against Brisbane in his final game, where he was playing mainly forward and looked like he might almost win us the game off his own boot.

He’s solid on the wing and plays an important role getting back to help the defence, but I think he’s most impactful playing high-HF.

High HF is like a wingman these days anyway. Just means you line up different at the bounce. Byrnes played his best footy there as did Hill and we have to find a spot for Clark if he gets shunted from the HB line and young Phillipou. There is a bit of pressure on spots at the moment

If we’re anywhere close to full strength (at least for midfield, or running types) the competition for spots will be immense.

Steele
Gresham
Jones
Crouch
Seb
Clark
Windy
Bytel
Hill
Wood
D-Mac
Sincs
Wangmil
Coffield
Paton
Webster
Stocker
Billings
Higgins
Butler
Owens
Phillipou

22 of them who could play and we wouldn’t bat an eyelid, and then close behind or maybe even ahead of one or two of them would be Byrnes and Leo, who are not really “kids” anymore. Thus they could be ready for a big step forward.

We might be light in for AFL standard tall options, but we have depth up the wazoo in midfield or running types who are AFL quality.

I guess rotating them can work. and no reason Nasiah can't be part of that too.
There's already plenty of rotations on the wing. It's probably the hardest running position on the ground these days.

Nas definitely in the mix... JB, Seb & any number of other mids would spend a few minutes there on occasion too.

problem is that means we lose Mason Wood who has also been great on the wing. Does changing Mason Wood for Dmac give us a net gain? I quite liked Dmac on one wing and Wood on the other
Both were good, but Hill when on will be one of the best wingers in the game. Wood on hff I think will be very good too

What, Deep Heat in a spray pack? How convenient 😏

This is pure guess work but I suspect Mason will play in the F50 while we wait for the talls to return, and thats not like for like but Mason can find the goals and that's where we are going to struggle...kicking a score. But I agree he played that part of the ground well last year using his immense athletic profile between the arcs, probably the best 2 way runner for his size.

Int: Ross Bytel McKenzie Paton

😁

is he good enough to displace Dmac and Wood?

In terms of the "modern" wing who pushes back to support the backs, as well as pushes forward to support the forwards I think not. Hill just does not seem able to apply the defensive efforts of Dmac or wood. Wood is also much more ofa forward threat than Dmac and wood is also a genuine marking threat when he pushes, or even stays forward.

I think Lyon will use him more as a link to set up attacks and who will also push forward as he is a nice kick on goal. So I am expected Hill to play more wing/high half forward. I se him more being the linkman out of defense, and an offensive goalscoring, or passing, threat running forward as well.

All three I see as rotating through the wings, but all three will play different roles. Wood and Dmac having the most overlap in their roles, but agin wood is morea of a forward threat than Dmac.

If Dmac is not fit, then another p[layer will rotate through the wings too. ie Billings, Coffield. Maybe even Stocker. Or the young Poo or Owens.

DMac and Wood were both Ratten success stories. It'll be interesting to see if they can replicate their best form under Lyon.

Their success was in part as they are both extremely well suited to the "modern" wing role. Huge tanks, quite quick, and hard at it and both good defensively. Both quite physical and good at link play. Especially Wood who had a lot of his link play, including taps go unnoticed by many.

Owens in the ruck?

Did the Acres experiment teach us NOTHING?

Just needs to convert February Fitness into something that can help the team rise up the ladder. Hopefully Jack is one of the players who can be touched by Lyon's magic hand get some improvement AND consistency which is probably his biggest weakness. No excuses this year.
Hey mate. can you get rid of that flashing avatar. It annoys the crap out of me.
