That would have to be close to the most even season of all time?
1993. Geelong missed the finals after beating 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th in their last 4 games by an average of 10 goals!

No current applications for land behind Fremantle’s headquarters as sand patch painted green

Fremantle has spray-painted green an ugly, undeveloped sand patch behind its Cockburn headquarters ahead of match simulation. But the future of the land remains unclear, writes ELIZA REILLY.

Fremantle has spray-painted green an ugly, undeveloped sand patch behind their Cockburn headquarters ahead of match simulation as the future of the land remains unclear.
The sand hill behind the goals was coloured on Thursday morning in an attempt to soften the blow for prying eyes as a national audience prepares to tune into Friday’s pre-season clash with Adelaide.

The land has remained untouched since Fremantle moved into its new high-performance facility in 2017.
Speaking at a Harbour Masters function earlier this month, CEO Simon Garlick reportedly told fans that the club was hoping to do something about the eyesore but nothing had eventuated.
City of Cockburn Head of Development and Compliance Lorenzo Santoriello told CODE Sports: “There are no current development or subdivisional applications for any of the Mixed Use Residential, Retail and Commercial lots behind Victor George Kailis Oval at Cockburn ARC.”

One thought is that the Dockers could develop the land themselves. Late last year, the club announced a separate upgrade to its existing facilities which will include AFLW and community changerooms.
The lots are owned by DevelopmentWA, which has indicated it will be a future stage of the Cockburn Central West project that started with the construction of the $109m ARC, the facility that houses Fremantle.
The project intends to serve as an extension to the Cockburn Central shopping centre, serving as a unified town centre for local residents.
Watched a bit of the Carlton game this morning. Their grounds look absolutely amazing. Where did they get the money to do that?

It’s very strange. The sand pit starts at the very edge of the grass. Surely no matter what they build in the future they need a set back / pathway between the oval and something else.

If they build apartments on the edge they’ll just get footy’s smacking into them all day, I especially hope the area between the goals will.

The grass bank should just go around the whole thing.

Zac Jones now out for Rd 1….Saints are certainly wounded

Add billing’s to that list [emoji15]

There is a render on p3, which doesn't seem to match with the plan on p4. And then more 3D detail on p58 which to my eye matches p4. Which seems like it is indeed a plan to put some kind of building close to the fence, but there is a small setback Also, what seems like an open space on p4 is made to look like an open space on an elevated platform thing on p58.

I'm sure the design could change (e.g. with more setback), but I am guessing the whole thing would be a construction site and whatever they put in the setback could get destroyed. So why bother doing anything now.

The other part of the oval has a road running between what is now a grass bank and what would be apartments behind that (site 8-11 on p46). So the north side of the road will remain untouched.

I would be willing to bet that nothing actually gets built on any of these sites. Maybe in 10 or 20 years. They should just turf the sandpit and plant some trees.

Just finished show me the money 2, pretty good again, was missing the Jackson trade though! would have liked to see the background of that one

Young confirmed it was always us during it (We all knew already), said it was bizarre that Freo hadn't announced it was us, worst kept secret in AFL, anyone thinking Eagles were a chance last year had no idea

I thought it was pretty good as well. My only real complaint is the format. Last year they had 2 episodes on the trade period and one on the draft. This was just a movie length documentary on the trade period. I would have liked draft stuff.

Yeah draft stuff is good, weird they didn't do it this year

Freo weren't involved as much in the draft so we didn't miss out but still would like to see it

Probably adds quite a bit to the cost to cover the draft as its like an extra month

Freo were just respecting the process. We had past experience with Mitch Clarke. Colin is a spoilt brat.

Vale Jack Sheedy

Absolute legend. My Pop’s captain ant EFFC and all round good bloke. Was lucky enough to meet him many times at games and lunches. RIP.

The Carlton game was played at their old home ground which had a gov grant for development just before they played their last season there. Its also still used for state league games so its getting money from a range of places. Not a fair comparison to ARC.

Mineral Resources for WC is a good comparison, started well after ours and it looks fantastic all grassed with great viewing areas and even some BBQ's (yeah yeah no water slides). Freo's area (maybe out of their control) is a disgrace after this amount of time. Hopefully they can get an agreement to grass the bank at their own cost.

Once again not a fair comparison. That is a very old and well established ground that's been used for multiple football comps across a winter for ages and that also got a huge cash injection from the filth to develop it. It's surface is no better than ARC, I would say worse but its line ball.

All we do at ARC is train - until recently anyway. Its a new, purpose built facility - for training. The ground itself doesn't draw any revenue from other comps nor has it been there for 100 years like Carlton's and WC's grounds have. The area that seems to be so offensive is not controlled by FFC or the City of Cockburn. Honestly having been down there a few times to watch training now I couldn't care less about the bank but I understand some do so each to their own.

If anyone wants a laugh (I'll stop posting SEN articles now):
As I hate-clicked the link, I just knew it was going to be Gossage.

lo' and behold.

Gossage: “It won’t be a successful year if Fremantle finish between fifth and eighth.”
Hahahaha.

Cummings: “Freo would need an almighty slide and a lot of bad luck to finish below West Coast.”

Gossage: “It’s impossible to predict bad luck, but Freo is due, they’ve had a pretty good run.

LOOOOOOOOL.

So when asks how far they'll slide he answers with they won't finish in the top 4. Which meaning given he feels that West Coast will finish higher this must mean he feels West Coast will make the top four.
He thinks finishing 5th is a slide for a team that finished 5th on the ladder and 6th overall due to Melbourne. He’s not making any sense and letting his bias cloud his logic.

He’s entered Sumich Level Delusion.
