Harsh on Lewis Young. He has improved immensely with games at full back instead of floating between ruck and full forward where he was out of his depth. He’s not going to break records but he’s certainly AFL standard and continues to get better every week.

Every team supporters have a bit different ranking because some value types of players different through subconscious bias.
I rank it as if freo had the first 5 picks of draft and the all round ability of player, mental, physical, skill, durability, consistency with a recency bias
1. AB
2. Naughton
3.LDU
4.Taylor
5.Bailey
All cracking players

I don't think being a bottom 5 or 6 KPD is overly harsh criticism for two developing KPDs in Young and BZT. I prefer Young to BZT due to his bigger body

Potential recency bias, but Bailey really isn't impressing me lately. Still so much undelivered potential and really hasn't taken that step up into elite territory.

Rating Tim Kelly at 4 just tells me you haven't watched him enough since he left Geelong. He plays 1 good game then another 3 filled with sloppy disposal and no second efforts.

Dylan Moore above Naughton is just baffling. Gun player but nowhere near that level. Spending that much time forward and going at only a goal a game isn't enough production.

Adam Cerra above Liam Ryan and Bailey Fritsch... I know you're a Carlton fan but come on
Bailey has definitely stalled. All the talent but not the work ethic.

Quality depth, slightly mercurial top end. Had a really hard time doing this. Becomes difficult after the first 4 or so, and even harder after 6 when there's about 20 guys who will play 200 games. I was surprised to have Fritsch so high, given he's a mid-sized forward so hardly going to be drafted so early, but nobody else is really consistent enough.

6 seasons in (mostly exposed form, some potential, consistency rewarded)

  1. Brayshaw
  2. Naughton
  3. Davies-Uniacke
  4. Taylor
  5. Fritsch
  6. D. Fogarty
  7. Balta
  8. Mihocek
  9. McCartin
  10. Moore
  11. Bailey
  12. Baker
  13. Jiath
  14. Ryan
  15. Cerra
  16. Kelly
  17. Allen
  18. Richards
  19. Petty
  20. Murphy
  21. Rayner
  22. Higgins
  23. Switkowski
  24. De Koning
  25. Clark
  26. Spargo
  27. Worpel
  28. Powell
  29. Zerk-Thatcher
  30. Amartey

Jake Kelly afl standard?
Yes. He's an AFL standard defender.
I don’t believe I said that. At least I didn’t mean to convey that

Edit: Oh I see it now. Missed that completely. Yeah it’s bullshit. Young was top 5-10 in intercepts per game last year.
No it isn't. He's less than average defensively and isn't damaging enough with the balls he intercepts. And I was a fan of his at the Dogs, thought he was harshly dealt with but watching him at Carlton I understand why he was dealt that way

BZT could have the exact same criticism that you’ve applied to Young.
BZT takes the #1 forward though and has been good at defending them for the most part.

Do you know which one Lewis Young is or?

Another way of looking at this draft, is who is outperforming their draft position ?.

Haven’t looked at the list closely, but Switta would be close to A+ for his drafting position. On the other hand, Cerra is a V.

BZT wouldn't even be a top 4 KPD from this draft. I would have him behind Taylor, Balta, Petty, McCartin. . He's similar to Payne, Murphy and Miller who have taken a while to get to AFL level but are there now. Ballard I don't see as a KPD or else he would be behind him too.

What are you basing the A+ on? Never finished top 10 in a B&F in 5 years = A+? Thats some crazy maths.

Matt Guefli - taken after Switta has a top 3 finish in ess B&F - is he an A+++?

Just throwing it out there for discussion. I was just using Switta as an example.

You do know that Champion Data have listed him as Elite.

Yes, Guefli is batting above his mark.

Champion Data also ranked Scrimshaw, Finlayson, McCarthy and Hall as elite

Ok, maybe I used the wrong example, but who are the players who are playing above their drafting position ?.

Was just throwing up a discussion point for this draft.

Connor Idun has been good for us as a late pick. Now in our leadership group. (Pretty sure he was this draft but my memory isn't always clear on these)

Oh he’s definitely still a great value pickup, I just meant CD has some pretty wild rankings at times.

I reckon Ryan (26), Taylor (28) and Fritsch (31) are all top 10 players from this draft (Ryan I’d have top 5).

Dylan Moore (67) and Liam Baker (rookie 18) are probably the only ones I’d consider better value than Switta. Mihocek (rookie 22) on par

Idun was from 2018.
