Doesn't matter who takes over, they will be a soulless club until they do something about their training jumper for a guernsey.

Get a real ****ing footy kit on and build a proper culture!

Bit hard when nobody on GC cares about AFL. What's the incentive to play well other than money?

Warm weather could be another attraction for players I suppose, compared to southern states around the country such as Victoria and South Australia.

Personally though, the AFL should have placed licenses in Tasmania and Canberra instead, then put Gold Coast and GWS in, cause sure the competition would have not been less fairer for NSW and QLD representation but it can’t be sustainable long-term for both Gold Coast and GWS to keep averaging 5,000-10,000 crowds every home game either.

Yeah sure for their lifestyle, but I'm talking during the game, what's the incentive to play well? They aren't entertaining many people in the stands. The only time they probably hear the crowd is when they are booed at away games

Sadly can’t disagree with that, even if the Gold Coast started playing well from next week onwards, it won’t be until 3-5 years (min) when the crowds start filling up at Metricon again to capacity given the lack of success in the past.

Gotta feel sorry for the Gold Coast on one hand and their supporter base as well that had to endure so much trash in their small history so far and I’ll definitely be cheering them on quietly on when they play over here in Canberra in July against the Giants, even if I don’t support them as such.

Not so much a dew problem this but Gold Coast as a club are still making poor off field decisions. I thought after may and lynch leaving in 2018 that was the end of what was a poor period of the suns and the beginning something new. And I thought GC were tracking okay for a period. Drafted some good players, got players to recommit, started winning games and even recruiting some decent names (Ellis).

But that good work now seems to be undone, and they are going backwards.
The recruitment of Atkins was a massive flop, getting paid I think 500k to play twos, was baffling at the time and still is. Losing a good player in bowes, plus pick 7, whilst giving up pick 32 for ben long just sums it up really.

Not trying to hack into them, I just wanna see them on the right track. Because guys like miller, swallow, Witt’s Ainsworth etc do care about that football club and deserve some sort success from their hard work.

The Gold Coast fan should really speak up about this situation.
Lonely Ghost Town GIF

Relocate them to Darwin with games at Alice and Cairns.

Relocate north to Hobart with games at Launceston.
A long shot by a mile, but I wonder if the AFL should get Gold Coast to rebrand themselves as the “Queensland Suns” and keep their main training base in the Gold Coast but split their home games between Gold Coast (5x), Cairns (3x), Townsville (2x) and Sunshine Coast (1x) in the future, while trying to get state and federal government funding to help redevelop or build new stadiums in those non-represented Queensland cities from Olympic being held in Queensland in 2032 as well.

Obviously the stadiums in FNQ and Sunshine Coast need to be either redeveloped to withhold 15,000-20,000 supporters or be built altogether (as in Sunshine Coast’s case) and would also mean that would be more travel for the club and could distance future players wanting to join the club as a result, but it would attract a lot more members, crowd attendances and sponsors from around Queensland and not just in Gold Coast, resulting in more support for the Suns and AFL in Queensland long-term.

Just food for thought I suppose cause the Gold Coast Suns can’t keep rolling on like how they are atm.

Just cut the losses and start a Tassie team asap.

In terms of junior development on the GC, there is absolutely no reason why the AFL can't just fund the Lions to be the team for marketing the the AFL in SEQ .

Also no reason the Lions can't play some home games on the GC every season.

The Lions VFL and women's team can also use the GC facilities

Won't go to waste.

Also will be very handy for Lions to play on GC when Gabba is being redeveloped

They’ve managed to turn bad calls into massive problems.

Bad call recruiting Atkins. Although we needed some outside run so can understand the thought process.
Massive problem giving him 4 years for no apparent reason.

Bowes. He wasn’t in our plans going forward so didn’t mind him plus a pick.. but jeez. You think could have given up far less than we did and got someone to bite. Surely hawthorn would have done it for a second rounder.

Long I didn’t mind. Was bad against saints but been solid otherwise. You think it could have been a 3 year deal though rather than 4 years..absolutely no guarantee he works out at half back.

Don’t mind me asking how Thomas Berry is getting along at your club now, is he Best 22 material or on the outer still?

It’s not much better (11-14k)
But we have averaged more than 10k for home attendance every year except covid.

What about if your club rebranded as the “Queensland Suns” and play a mixture of home games in Gold Coast (6x), Cairns (3x), Townsville (2x) and Sunshine Coast (1x) in the future?

That could help improve the exposure of the sport and the Suns as well in Queensland.

seems to me that would weaken ties to the gc mores than strenhthen ties to FNQ. Sunshine Coast is lions academy zone with a few players currently or previously on your list.

would rather play home games at Carrara where we usually play well.
also need 2xdarwin games with our nt agreement.

we have 6 players ob our list from Darwin/nt (Jeffrey, Rosas, long, Anderson, Brock, Johnston) so continuing to support that region makes sense to me.

the aflw team play in Mackay. Lauren Bella our ruckman is from Mackay.

Feel like Dewy's on his last legs. If he can't get the Suns to round 8 4-4 or at the very least 3-5, he's gone. It's a tall ask but they've got to show improvement. A heavy loss to North would be the final nail in the coffin as it shows they've been overtaken by yet another club.

As others have mentioned, the list management is still a joke. Who is giving Atkins 4 years @ 500k?? He could t get a game at Adelaide! What gives? The Bowes situation was just madness. Why they had to offer #7 straight up is mind blowing…..surely they could’ve got a little more creative?? Anyway, the desperation to get him off the books is symptomatic of the irresponsible list management. Comically, they then offer a 2nd Rd pick & 4 years for a plodder like Long. He’ll be delisted by end of 24’….mark my words.

I like Dewy, but I think he’s a dead man walking unfortunately for reasons that largely aren’t his fault, similarly to a lot of his predecessors. I’d be enquiring about Buckley & what his intentions are next year & beyond.

Think dew has done a great job of getting guys to want to be at the suns. But when it comes to actual game day - he’s no good.
