That depends on if we would have done the downgrade if we were targeting another player

Maybe we did the downgrade because we specifically knew Fish would still get to us, but for those others despite going lower maybe they would have been less confidence so not done the deal?

Who knows

No doubt it was a poor pick and once the trade was done it’s clear we had the pick of them, but maybe the trade doesn’t happen without Gish as the centerpiece

I don’t think we targeted him. My recollection is that Hamish or Reid said that we ranked a handful near identical around that part of the draft. So we traded down knowing we would be equally happy with whichever players were still available.

Redman would be a really good get for us. We need an elite half back and Smith is nearly done, and its clear Milera is not going to be that man.

I would like another top class midfielder though to join Dawson and Rachele (+Soligo) to really round out that area of the ground.
Phillipou and Hollands must be high on the wanted list for us.

Phillipou will not do a JHF and return to SA

He has no emotional pull back to SA, he supported Freo as a kid and wanted to play in big games in Melbourne

I just can’t see this happening

We still have time on our side, our list demographic prob means we won’t truly be competing at the pointy end of the year for a few more seasons. Hit the draft this year and get the best mid available, if that means packaging up our firsts this year and next to move up the order then so be it. The 2nd rounders from North and GC look to be quite good at this early stage too. We will have some draft capital.

Darcy Wilson. Is a light weight at the moment but he’s a good size. Once he puts on some muscle/size he will be a very good mid at afl.

JHF also supported Fremantle but tend to agree. Provided Phillipou doesn't have someone like Fabian of influence continuously in his ear then I can't see him leaving as well.

I don't think even a flag would make peace on this board. We'd still be fighting amongst ourselves.
A flag? A flag you say?

I remember those, but it’s been a long time. So long, that such an event has become unimaginable to my mind. It’s on the same level as winning lotto, or dating Jen Hawkins.

If we won one, there isn’t a poster on here who could piss me off. Hell, I’d even give Vader a kiss on his big black helmet.

That’s not a metaphor is it?

Did we say that with MCasey?
I remember we said that when we traded down and got Jake lever

Hi George, serious question. Are you either a Psychologist, or have immediate access to such a skill set? I have run the Mc Asey situation by a close family member - being my sister in law (PHD Psych) - who actually worked for the Crows with Craigy in the 1990’s. For all the profiling you TRY and do - and it’s incredibly detailed interviewing dozens of a recruits peers, teachers, ex coaches, even neighbours etc - you can never be 100% guaranteed that issues won’t arise. Especially when a young man moves out of home for the first time, moves interstate and then suffers serious medical issues within his own close knit family. No theory or modelling will ever fully capture this and to suggest otherwise is very naive yet you still blame the club. If we had player after player do the same thing then it’s a club thing, otherwise McAsey is the outlier and the club can’t be blamed if a one off according to someone who is not only knowledgeable and qualified but has actually worked within the system herself.

So George, who do you think would have a better idea? This qualified and experienced person or an anonymous internet punter like yourself?

As for your second point re lack of natural athleticism that seems fair and I thought the same thing from day one.

I have an uncle who is a QC

Hollands not exactly setting the VFL alight at this point...

Yeah but 20 possesions with 0% time on ground is pretty special
Not doing enough to be paying big for at this point in time.

Plenty better with 0% time on the ground/

i.e Rory boi.

Getting intimate with his big black shiny helmet would be just a tad too much, especially if it involved the Sith Lord barking demanding orders in his deep, booming, wheezy voice controlled by neural needles. Unless done in sympathy after he lost his 3 limbs, his sense of touch, his hair and effectively killed his wife and tried to murder his bestie.
