I just watched the replay and he went hard from beginning to finish,he knows how to tap the ball to advantage and he kicks the ball well much better than a ruckman or KPD usually do.

Happy he’s taking his chances. Saw him destroy teams in the Sanfl playing for port. I remember watching a game against Norwood and he kicked 6 and clunked everything.

Hardly surprising, attended nearly twice as many ruck contests as either Draper or Phillips, win rate at about 30% compared to them both being about 55%.

Exactly. There Billy stands on top of the pile with 28 HO. No one cares about how many contests. Or how many minutes on ground. The stat is HO. And Billy was king for the day.

Just as no one cares who led most of the day yesterday. We stood as the victors at the end of the day. And yet we only led for les than 5% of the entire game.

I suppose haters will always hate.

True its a great move but, picky I know, neither are about positive psych. Both of them are about the courage to acknowledge who we were and who we are now. Don't get me wrong, huge moments in moving forward without weight. I applaud Eddie for being our leader when the do better report was initiated under his watch. You may have something here though, it is choices like this that create character and freedom under which positivity can act.

I get the distinction you're making and we can only foster a positive mindset through being a positive influence in the community, anything less then we are just another club.

I'm old enough that my father grew up and supported the Pies in our days of glory - not just on field but with influence in the community and being a beacon of hope and way out of the horrendous poverty trap that was old Collingwood town.

That comes from the club's very beginnings and it used to define us, I cherish the hope that I see us take up that challenge again.

framptons last couple of weeks has provided macrae with options ... an invaluable asset in a modern game where you need to throw players around searching for game-time options b, c, d, e etc etc

mitchell and hill have been wonderful additions to the side .... but framptons recruitment may prove to be a master stroke - value adding to a game plan/system that demands flexibility

[edit] this is not a reflection on cameron or cox - valuable additions to the side if fit ....... but macrae doesnt appear to value the ruck post (its the richmond griggs approach if you like - compete and you will satisfy his KPIs) ..... framptons performance these last 2 games has just given macrae a valuable in-game time option he can call upon if/when needed ...... flexibility folks

If you're a ruckman and cant take a contested mark then you're a VFL ruckman, being able to provide contested marking around the ground is the 2nd most important part beside being competitive in the hitouts for a ruckman

Not true really for the modern ruckmen. They aint Gary Dempsey.

Grundy's career average for CM is 0.9 per game very similar to the likes of NicNat, Goldy, Darcy. Witts is 0.5 a game. The 2 rucks with good contested mark numbers over a good period of time are Gawn and Mason Cox who both go around 2 a game which is exceptional for a ruck. Reckon next best is Darcy Cameron who is 1.8.

Its what makes the Cameron Cox combo appealing. 2 ruckmen who can take contested marks, have some forward craft and are well above average set shots for goals. its a very unique combination.

Billy is a great stand in for the moment but will be tough for him to do it for a big stint of games. Hopefully we get the CC combo back soon

I too watched the replay, after only having seen the game live at the game, and Frampton's efforts really impressed me. Even more on second viewing.

He holds position very well,on his showing in the ruck so far I think he actually think he gets pushed aside less than either Cox or DC this is not to say he is better but he is a worthy replacement as he is showing.

I think I prefer him as a ruck substitute to either McStay or Krueger honestly.

I'm pleased for him a lot of us Port fans felt he was never given much of a chance with us.

I reckon the Collingwood recruiters and McRae would've seen a game he played for the Crows in Ballarat where he was very good down back.

Anyway he played a fair chunk of ruck & forward for Port in the SANFL and kicked some bags at that level so he's not foreign to it.

McRae impressed me when he said Billy just needs to believe a bit more in his ability, something a bozo like Hinkley never encouraged.

The weird thing with Brodie is he just looks like he's lost the ability to mark the ball. When he was the best ruckman in the league, he was good for some pretty damn decent pack grabs. In fact, he almost won mark of the year in the season Howe got robbed. He was always averaging over 1 contested mark per game in his elite years.

But the last two seasons, he's gone at 0.5 CM per game and 0.3 CM per game. He's taken two contested marks this year. Frampton managed two on Anzac Day alone. It's so bizarre.

I feel bad for the guy, but at the same time, I can see why we were happy to move him on. He's still a great accumulator, but Fly's gameplan requires our big men to play big, and contested grabs is perhaps the single biggest part of that.

How well is this bloke going, take a bow Billy Frampton and please keep it up. Makes you wonder about his previous clubs and early career; we've spotted something and been able to bring out the best in him. Well done to all involved and well done Billy. Just hope he can keep it going and make the form lift permanent.

We were all just hoping he’d be a player similar to Roughead, and have got so much more.

For me, I think billy is best value in defence. Hopefully we can get our rucks back and he can go back to where he was really killing it. I also think he could be a good swingman if needed up forward

He looks ok in defence, but he's basically a negator, and he's only valuable with the injuries. His impact on the game in the ruck was far far greater than anything he did in defence. He wasn't in defence against the Bombers, and despite all the outs including Murphy, we held up fine.

I think as a defender he's arguably not best 22 with a fully healthy squad, while he shows way more potential as a second ruck who could potentially go forward or back.

We literally have no idea if he can keep it up, but I'm more comfortable with his ability to ruck on a more full time basis than I am lets say with Cox due to age and injury issues. I'd want to keep developing him in the ruck moving forward regardless of getting the other two back, as I see far more upside from him in that role than as a full time defender. I think second ruck, with the ability to swing either end is his ideal role moving forward, particularly once Cox finishes up.

Bro, Billy did a serviceable job in the ruck. He was far from a dominant ruck. Why you are getting so excited about one performance is beyond me. His performances in defence have been superb. I think you need to chill a bit on this one because if Frampton is our ruck for the rest of the year, we are ****ed

I think you are mistaken he was much than serviceable in the ruck in fact he was bloody good and another thing was he had no meaningful support at all,Johnson and Krueger contested 15 ho and won 1 between them massive difference right there.

Frampton is rucking alone more than either Cox or DC have and no one is giving him a chopout,not only did ruck superbly but some other things he did were outstanding also, on what he has shown so far in his 2 games in the role he has shown he could handle it. I am with Dundalis here I can see him comfortably as 2nd ruck if he had either Cox or DC to support he would be even better.

He's only played 3 games as a defender for us, and in one of them he got coaches votes for stitching up Tom Lynch. Who knows where he'll get to as a defender, we haven't seen enough yet.
