News Clarkson to step away from football indefinitely

Best wishes to Clarko. He badly needed a break. This news is bit of a blow to the Roos, but they have a good and capable footy man in Brett Ratten to take over.

I have great time for Ratts. The man comes across to me as being one of life's good guys, and he was wrongly and disgracefully sacked as coach at Carlton.

Hopefully both Ratts and North Melbourne get themselves a couple of wins before the year is out.

You can’t win in this situation.

Hird did the opposite and was public enemy #1 because he wouldn’t follow the AFL’s narrative.

Yeah this is about Hird facilitating and engaging in a drug cheating program. Essendon sycophants jumping on North’s current misery.

Accusations alone are very rarely evidence for guilt. It’s time the media and general public understood this because we as a collective are causing the accused too much stress and anxiety. There is such a thing as giving the benefit of doubt, so that’s what we should be doing in this case.

Second time this happened to A North coach in 3 years. Clearly massive problems at North.

Jesus. You think mate? What would make you say that?

And we should just forget the alleged victims? We seem to do that a lot to Aboriginal people.

Been the sad thing about all this.

I don't expect much from BigFooty - this board in particular doesn't engage in any meaningful discussion on any topic. But it's been disappointing that the media haven't put the pressure on the AFL to make more postive systemic changes for indigenous players.

Regardless of the outcome of this situation, it should have been the catalyst for major changes and it doesn't seem like that's happened. I don't expect the average BigFooty poster to think further than their next post, but I expected more pressure from the media in this regard - sad to see and indicative of current day journalism.

How many people around here have knowledge of the indigenous deaths in custody or give it more than a fleeting thought?

We're slowly become a broken fractured country like the US.

Hawthorn need to admit their many failures properly. The sort of thing Essendon have still failed to do re their scandal.

Hawthorn should also make reparations to individuals, groups, the AFL community as a whole for massive and lasting damage done in their name, for their benefit, at their hand, at the expense others, and to the detriment of the game.

Hawthorn have benefitted from their own bad behaviour - there should be recompense commensurate with those facts as well. There are consequences for such terrible failures.

The club should be heavily sanctioned.
Still salty over 2008 chump??

Want my apology mods for editing my posts thanks.

Something did come up that changed things. Live in denial.

No but the media should report things in a balanced and non speculative way which we they dont.

We are having a go at the media and the system not aboriginal people.

Who is the liar? 3 seperate aboriginal families?

Why this Clarko persecuted narrative? He was still able to do his job, I think part of it is he just cant be bothered coaching a crappy side while this investigation is going on. If his side was 7-2 like Fagan he wouldn't of stepped down.
100% agree..
If North weren't a basket case I don't think he would have stepped down either.. Dealing with all the crap from supporters and media then having to deal with these allegations would take it's toll

In most situations, said person would be suspended with pay while the investigation took place. The length of the investigation coupled with him having to face questions in his gig as north head coach that in some way related to the investigation, was going to make it a very uncomfortable set of circumstances for him.

Unfortunately Clarkson isn’t Robinson Crusoe in the way he has been treated by the AFL . There is a plethora of people who have worked for the AFL , within the elite AFL competition or merely been involved in the game , who have suffered similar treatment from AFL’s ‘ men in black ‘ as they like to call themselves , aka integrity department .
Mick Warner only touched the surface within his book .

No, I didn’t see anyone say to forget the indigenous people making a complaint. It doesn’t matter the race of the accused and the accuser.

Just like you don’t charge the accused without a proper process, you don’t accuse the accuser of lying without a proper process. The accusations just haven’t publicly been proven as fact yet, so we shouldn’t be speaking on what we don’t know.

yep, and I'm guessing what we know is only the tip of the iceberg insofar as how they conduct their business.
The AFL is an absolute shit show of an organisation, that loves to parade itself as the arbiter of all things decent moral and right.

If I started throwing a tanty at work and breaking stuff, I'd be sacked.

He gets paid leave and sympathy. What a world we live in.
I guess it would depend on the circumstances, clearly NMFC realise the impossible situation and amount of stress he has been under. Your coach may be next.
this is a witch-hunt.

afterthe do better fiasco, and now this so-called internal ‘investigation’, will any other club be foolish enough to look at history to try to ‘do better’?
someof the public accusations are truly disgusting, but even Charles Manson was allowed to defend himself.

this is bullshit

and hawthorn? What a way to treat a four time premiership coach! Hang him out to dry

It matters significantly because Aboriginal people have been pushed to the side and victim shamed for hundreds of years. Had the alleged victims not been Aboriginal but been two privileged non-Aboriginal private school boys then there would have been no doubts cast over their accusations.
