Sloane has been good the last few weeks. I still think when you watch him live he is a bit of a liability defensively when we turn the ball over but he is getting plenty of touches to make up for it currently.

I think another year would be a stretch but I also thought that about this year and so far he has proved me wrong.

I was fairly confident that he’d return in good Nick. Both him and Tex are tracking to warranting another year, but there’s no need to consider it until our season has concluded.

Started the year well but as the season has gone on his form has waned. Problem is he’s playing as a midfielder and we can’t afford that.

It was clear as day he should have been rested this week and Worrell kept his spot.

We’ve got young mids whose output would not be worse than Rory’s and they aren’t getting the development.

So what will Nicks do? Make a tough call like Hinkley did with Jonas and drop a senior player?

The concern was when asked this week, Olsen pretty much confirmed he’s playing on. That can’t happen

I would hope the club, at bare minimum, sit him down and say if he is going on next year that it's a transition to retirement year in 2024 whereby he will play 10-12 games and provide much needed experience to those coming up in the SANFL. Stage manage it all you like Rory but that is what is happening.

Presumbly though Tex and Sloane are motivated by the hype that this team is going places and will hold on to the death to keep that dream alive that they might have one more crack at the G.

If he’s on the list we are playing him

The fact that they talked about resting him for the geelong game but decided not to, then had to manage minutes on him last game, then finish him of in the warmth last night, and now they’ve boxed themselves into him either missing Tex’s 250th or playing him, ridiculous.

Didn't see the game last night, but he's had a couple of great games this year, and some outstanding individual quarters. His last quarter in round 6 against the Hawks essentially won us the game.

He's still got value to add for another year but he seriously needs to be managed. Rest him this week

He had a couple of great games early. Then a couple of great quarters. He is getting on and his output will only continue to diminish over the year and next year will be worse. He can’t play on because we will pick him

He'll feast on eagles and Roos and that's enough to lock him in his spot for the remainder of our season, it's just how we roll. You can change the coaches as often as you like, the higher ups will just employ the exact same types that align with the existing philosophies. Without Sloane's experience out there we lose by even more, the fact he is routinely beaten in the contest and opponents run off him forward with ease is irrelevant. His name is Rory Sloane and that's all that matters.

Re Tex, he shouldn't go on either. Yes, he's still kicking goals, but he gets a LOT of ball directed at him and he loses most of them to unpressured disposal to opposition. But he's done enough the last 2 and a bit seasons to at least warrant selection, with rests. Not Sloane, he was an average mid pre ACL and he's now worse than what Thommo was delivering in 2016. Will be a disaster if he gets an extension bevause he'll never play 2s.

I get they're club greats and all, but this is a business now.

Get rid of them both and throw a big offer at a gun mid.

Cooked beyond belief
And he still has more than half the season to go.
When you start giving away lots of frees and then you are getting pinged for HTB, the game has gone past you
And I cant see Rory getting the Talia treatment at the end of the year, so we wheel him out for another season

Exactly, people act like these guys are playing for charity. He's one of, if not the highest paid crow. It's time for him to step back or for the coaches to retire him. His skillset doesn't allow him to play into old age like a Pendlebury.

or use our 23 and 24 firsts to get low enough to get a gun mid at the draft. Being 2-3 years behind given our age profile won't be an issue. And hopefully during that time a gun becomes RFA available. 5 for a small forward, no matter how good at that, is a massive overspend. I had hopes at times he was working into the midfield, but VB has backtracked on that.

You can say what you want about port, but they have the courage to drop their captain on form. This let's all the players know that performance is what drives selection.

At our club we believe that dropping Sloane, even to sub, would shatter the confidence of the playing group and we'd become Carlton or Melb overnight.

Absolute nonsense regarding Walker. Is still probably the most important player at the club. Massive difference between the quality of team performances when he in the team and when he is not. Works well alongside Fogarty as well, with both having good years. The dropoff in output to playing someone like Gollant in Walker's spot would be massive.

Sloane was justifying his place in the team earlier in the year, but now he is not. Would be keen to see him tried as the sub.
