Geez Tim Membrey has been copping a bit in this thread. Obviously this year hasn't worked out too well so far due to injury but he's been one of most consistent performers for bloody years. Some of you guys and gals have very short memories.

Watched the Carlton game yesterday Tim’s 1st game back he was very good. Very underrated imo

Can anyone get this article? Really hope its us targeting Parish... a far bigger need then Bergman or DeKoning IMO.

Cats ‘country dream’ plan still in force

Geelong has no plans to step away from its ‘sell the dream’ trade and free agency philosophy that has delivered a swag of acquisitions across the past decade with Carlton big man Tom De Koning and Essendon midfielder Darcy Parish among the targets this year.

Some rival recruiters have labelled the Cats’ location on the Bellarine Peninsula with the proximity to the Surf Coast as well as their extraordinary work-life culture as “the greatest free kick in football” in terms of attracting talent.

The Cats have made a strategic investment in chasing talent in the trade and free agency window in every season since 2014, with a particular emphasis on targeting former Geelong Falcons players.

The important thing is the Cats have been able to secure key talent often at cut-price rates with their ability to sell key on and off-field assets other than getting the best financial deal.

Geelong brought in Ollie Henry, Tanner Bruhn and Jack Bowes last October, but were surprised to miss out on Jacob Hopper, who ultimately chose Richmond.

It was a rare miss from the Cats, but insiders insist they are doing their best to try and attract the out of contract De Koning and Parish.

Parish is understood to be enjoying the environment at the Bombers at the moment, especially given the club’s improved fortunes this season.

But the former Geelong Falcon has long been on the Cats’ radar and he has a big decision to make on his future in the coming months.

De Koning has attracted the attention of several clubs, including the Cats and St Kilda, with Geelong in a position to push the idea of him playing with his brother Sam, who last year became a premiership player.

Fmd I can see it now. Come the end of the trade period the Cats walk away with Parish AND De Koning. 🙄

Story doesn't tell us anything we already don't know, Saints are upto their eyeballs with TDK & Bergman with both making their decision during their bye period & i'm still not writing off Liam Henry inspite of what posters think of him.

Has played one good quarter (the first against Bloos) all season.
Would want to switch on from here.
His brain works so slowly it hasn’t suited his high half forward wheel and go role at all.

I'd always assumed the talk of Liam Henry to the Saints was because of the Freo connection with RTB, but I've just realised (ok I'm a bit slow) that the Boss had already been sacked a few months before that draft.

Where does this talk come from? He's not really the sort of player we need, and he's a WA lad isn't he?

I don't get it.

He’ll be back against the Swans. Pretty sure the Sharmy experiment 🔬 is done.

Has a connection with SOS he tried to draft him when at the blues.

Why does the league think that the decades long dominance of Geelong and Sydney is not a problem worth fixing?

How would you fix it without it looking like you are deliberately trying to handicap those teams?

TDK update from Sam McClure and Mitch Cleary's podcast today

Sydney have offered TDK an 8 year deal on big money with the intention of him being their number 1 ruck moving forward. We aren't willing to offer him the same length or money that Sydney are but our pitch of partnering Marshall is attractive for TDK who doesn't want to only ruck (according to them). No mention of what Geelongs offer was.

To be fair I think most supporters are appreciative of Membreys output at the Saints. Nothing lasts forever and we are just seeing the start of a new guard at the Saints.

Hopefully Sydney will save us from ourselves.

The two best things one could do IMO is:

  • raise the salary cap significantly
  • remove all current concessions from the draft (academy, father-son) and re-introduce priority picks solely based on win totals

Because the meejia just love the 'dynasty' narrative. It is a hand in glove Fetish between them and the AFL.

It's a pity because the AFL could break it within 5 years of changing the draft so that not even Geelong could overcome having their time at the bottom.

The meejia may even discover the new fetish of a comp that changes teams in the top 4 every couple of years is quite exciting.

Easily done but the squealing of vested interests won't stand for it.
