As for the game, we did what we had to do.

As predicted, North had competitive patches but couldn't go with our forwards. Rankine kicked a bag which I predicted in the GD thread, and hopefully that will rejuvenate Fog's goalkicking form.

Rory Sloane with the worst 30 disposal game you'll ever see

23 of those touches in the second half. 14 in the final quarter when the game was already done

This can't be said enough, game swung back our way when he was moved out of the middle

My jaw hit the floor when O'Brien kicked that set shot goal from 40m out directly in front
I made a bet with a random at the game he wouldn’t kick it. And he goes and does.
Luckily I doubled up on the one in the last but still…

Huh? In the first half Sloane barely did anything, was playing primarily on the wing, and the game was competitive. In the second half he was mostly in the middle and had 23 touches and we won by 11 goals. You can say Sloane didn't have a big role in that but we certainly didn't take over the game when he left the midfield, quite the opposite.

Thilthorpe was also good. (edit: 3 clearances, not 5) Still has a way to go but continues to put together different parts of a potentially elite package. Fun player to watch
Yeah some of his work tight in traffic, left or right side of the body is amazing for his size.

Ugly:
How on earth is Luke McDonald one of the 2 captains of North Melbourne? This is right up there with Tom Jonas, with the only difference being that Jonas actually used to be a good player. McDonald is RUBBISH and always has been. I actually have quite a bit of respect for what North are building (minus the horrid defence, ironically led by this turkey), but far out, get a decent player in as co-captain, or just go with Simpkin alone for crying out loud.
Also Co-Capt Simpkin .....hardly screams "follow me"

As a long-term ROB critic .....today was one of, no definitely, his best tap rucking exhibition of his career

Well done !

He was in the guts nearly all of the second quarter and we got smashed there, he was moved out and we got on top.

What I saw from Rory was a last quarter when the game was done

Sloane had all of his clearances in the second half so you're right.

But we were also completely in control of the game at half time.

So the decision to bring him into the centre when we were already up is odd. Should have been giving more responsibility to the younger players, especially in the last quarter given we had won the game half way through the 3rd

Ned McHenry - didn’t get a stack of it, but bloody hell he’s made huge strides in his decision making and composure this year. That goal he set up in the 2nd quarter with his fearless effort to go in and under was something that nobody else on our team would’ve been able to achieve. And despite the clueless howling by the commentators, it didn’t even remotely resemble a “contact below the knees” free.

Love Ned’s attack on the footy but that should be a free every day of the week.

Bad: the coaching group not trusting the kids last week in the center.
Pedlar
Rachele
soligo

Against collingwood they had a combined 4 center bounce attendances
This week 41
I even predicted this.
So Waynesworld can we put to bed that it’s management and fitness, it’s all about trust.

Has he suffered playing second fiddle to Rankine do you think? Although they have combined well at times
I think he will end up the Blue Chip we need.

Wasnt really a forward today. His shots on goal were just part of midfielder play.

Started either Centre or wing at most bounces. Screenshot_20230701_165314_AFL.jpg
