I call it the Thompson effect
Pop Tv Burn GIF by Schitt's Creek

So Hardwick prefers to work at the Suns rather than at Richmond..

....doesn't say much for Tigerland...

No doubt there's a pile of money with the AFL's fingerprints all over it behind this.

We've been fed a scripted story about 'burnout' and now 'the desire to return', but they had to stab Dew in the back for it to all happen......so they sent Hardwick overseas as an alibi to keep him clean.

It all reeks.

Much like the Clarkson Burn out ..I still feel he was told by the AFL to step away due to his continuous floggish behaviour

I can still visualize that Jordan Lewis incident against the Western Bulldogs. This is what we don't want.

The worst of the lot in my opinion was Ricciutos hit on Dean Kemp

And Kemp was a ball player - Norm Smith Medalist - that hit he copped - he ended up wearing a helmet - suffered headaches - and i dont think he was the same player after it

Worse imo was that Kossi hit with that small bulldog player and the tall saints player …he was legitimately about par with Riewoldt before that fractured skull

Never the same player after that hit

Personally, I don't think Dimma quit Richmond for the Gold Coast job. But I could see Gold Coast sacking Dew because they wanted to get Dimma, and not make the same mistake they did when Clarko was available. No doubt AFL ambassador money will be put into Dimma's contract. But to suggest that the whole thing has been orchestrated from the beginning is a bit much.

For one thing, it's sixteen years ago. That's nearly an entire generation.

Projecting current morality (fake or otherwise) backwards is pointless. It wasn't now, there wasn't the focus on concussion, and there was still a strong element of physicality in both sports. The toughest survived, the weakest didn't. That's why physicality was celebrated, because it could play a large part in winning the game. I can vividly remember Darren Milburn smashing a very young Shane Edwards around 2008 with a tackle. From memory he got a week, but I bet having played in Geelong teams that had the crap beaten out of them by Brisbane when he was young he felt zero sympathy about dishing it out.

Bob Skilton, the day he won the 68 Brownlow, with black eyes and broken nose after being shirtfronted

For every incident like that, what exactly is the Dogs player meant to do? Politely step out of the way and allow him to take the mark?

There's some physicality required, and players from time to time will get injured. You can't have a contact sport without contact.

Yep there are only so many premiership coaches around. Throw in what is no doubt a pretty sweet financial incentive, he'd be insane not to at the very least consider it.

Weird thing is he was being paid very well at punt Rd ($1 mil?) are the suns going to use up more of their cap to be laying a chunk of it towards one coach ? The support team around him would be even more limited than what it was under Dew…unless the AFL does it outside of the cap which wouldn’t shock me the least tbh

You'd give Port almost zero chance of winning the flag now, with all the unrest that's going to be circling them for the rest of this year. They've been mentally flimsy at best over the last 5 years. I do think they'll beat us this weekend but would hardly give them a chance of winning the flag now.

Wouldn't you know it?

Being reported the AFL is prepared to pay $1 million towards Hardwick's salary at the Suns as an 'ambassador'.

I still believe it's all been orchestrated.

When a bottom 4 team can beat us at home, it shows we're not exactly a high-value scalp anymore. Port will probably flick us aside... but agree they may not have the fortitude to do that to say Melbourne or Brisbane (let alone Collingwood).

Even if it is, it's far from the first time the AFL has tried very hard to get a particular coach to a particular club.

Not particularly fussed either way, they aren't winning the flag anytime soon.

True.

The cynic in me gets annoyed by the fact they think we're so stupid though.

To this day the only thing that annoyed me about Ablett going up there was the story that was fed to everyone. Just be honest.

"...It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, a chance to set my family up for life, and I can't knock it back...".

No one would have had the slightest issue with that because we'd all do the same.

Yep.....is it really that hard to just be plain and simple honest??

I see Cornes is as cynical about the Hardwick story as I am. Not sure that's something to hang my hat on though 🤔
