Murphy's shown some really positive development as a KPD given he's new to the role this year. He's still raw in the role and can be prone to some mistakes, but his aerial prowess is an absolute strength; attacks the ball aggressively in the air, fights for front position and is surprisingly physical for his lack of muscle, all that and he uses the ball well, albeit he does often stick to 'safe' ball use.

I think he'll need some more time to develop some of his defensive craft for the top level, just basic stuff like being more switched on for quick transition further afield, knowing when to zone off and when to lockdown, etc. but the building blocks are definitely there

I immediately zero in on words like ‘attacks’, ‘aggressively’, ‘fights’ for position, ‘physical’. Love that already plus the aerial ability. Mistakes and incorrect positioning I can cope with. Competitiveness is the non-negotiable.

Sounds a very decent prospect. 200cm too is real gorilla minder height as he fills out.

He's got that skinny strength that might make it better for him to play a bit lighter to keep his agility up. Think Darcy Moore and Harris Andrews, their frame lets them mind the monsters and keep up with the King's and 3rd talls. He has plenty of tools, but more importantly he uses all of them and seems to have a good instinct for one-on-one defense. Structuring and teamplay need a bit of work, but that's what coaching staff are for.

/Highjack over

In a similar way to Cadman last year, I remain optimistic on kids that can perform well/ develop in a new position in their 18th year, will hold him in goodstead heading to the next level

Jack Delean named on ball for the Panthers U18's Qualifying Final on the weekend, interesting to see if he starts there.
With Goad, Draper and Hargreave to wax with its a very good starting midfield 4 for South, interesting to see how Delean does as I didn't mind him a but further afield for brief stints that Academy game v Carlton

PMBangers can you confirm that a midfield with Ginbey, Hewett and Reid would be the greatest of all time?

Thank you in advance
eagles would be nuts to give up Reid imo.
That midfield would be sensational. Manoeuvred the '22 draft nicely, and Reid would be a crowning achievement to top it off.

Reid is definitely the obvious choice but if a trade did happen and we managed to get mckercher in plus a few other decent picks then its not a total loss. Mckercher could compliment our young midfield even better.
Having said that its seems the current media obsession is that the eagles would only pick curtain for no other reason than he's from WA

i don't much get that tbh.
Reid looks like a lock as the best player from this draft and possibly last years too.
Eagles can retain vic talent better than most.

I got last year. Ginbey and Hewett v one of Sheezel, Wardlaw, Tsatas made sense to me (i'd have happily done that trade if it was on offer)
Reid looks far too good to split for less obvious selections. IMO anyway

Only deal Eagles should consider is pick 1 for pick 2 & 3 IF North get the McKay compo.

Reid for Curtain and McKercher.

Take it or leave it North.

that only works if they are happy enough with Reid if they say no and if North really want Reid. Im not sure either is true.

I feel this is the outcome the AFL will most want engineered.

WC: Curtain & McKercher
North: Reid & Sanders (academy application approved)

2 kids each from the top 8 with the No.1 pick and Vic boy Reid going to the serial basket case North. WC get the WA boy Curtain.

Seems the most equitable ‘secret sauce’ result for both struggling clubs.

It's amazing how many people spell "Curtin" as Curtain.

as long as north have to match Sanders, and McKay is legit paid enough for band 1 (rules are rules).

Certainly but the AFL has enough wriggle room and grey area in these matters to push for the outcome they want. And that outcome is having WC & North as competitive as possible as quickly as possible.

Having clubs repeatedly win 4 games or less with %ages of 50-60 completely f….s the competition and harms their overall product. It’s a business decision.
