HUB have just dropped their benchmark video for Starfield and granted, they tested it in one of the most demanding areas of the game, but the fact that even the 4090 doesn't perform overly fantastically is a sad indictment on the new gen GPUs. Hopefully NVIDIA can improve performance a bit with new driver updates but I am not holding my breath.

It's more of an indictment on Bethesda's old engine than any GPU manufacturer. It wasn't until 76 that they even uncapped it. There is only so far Bethesda can optimise with the way their games are developed (modular, lots of draw calls, dynamic lighting and shadows so limited to no pre-baking, lots of heavy lifting by the CPU) so at this stage it's probably going to take implementation of FSR 3 and DLSS 3 for frame generation.
 
Scorptec have my build listed as ETA of today. Really ****en excited to get it home.

Can't wait to find out what extras I've forgotten (cables etc lol)

These twomonitors are in my price range and I've got some cash from a birthday leftover, is one significantly better than the others?



Or I could really stretch the friendship with the wife and go for this one - But I' not sure on specs differences between this and the LG above

The LGs are a better panel underneath. That Gigabyte isn't bad but I think the panel is an Innolux panel which isn't bad but it's a generic panel in a lot of different models. And the GP is an updated version of the GN (second letter is usually for the year on LG models).

Let me know if you still need a Windows 11 key.

Appreciate that, my buddy who has said he'll come help has one, but I will let you know if that falls through. Legend
 
That's hard to split. I thought there would be more too because the 800 vs 850 should mean they're a different tier. The GP is definitely an updated GN but the only meaningful difference I can see is the slightly higher refresh rate (but 144 to 165 is really splitting hairs). 50nits more brightness may be noticeable depending on your room lighting but you may not wish to have any monitor on max brightness anyway. Other things like response times and black frame insertion are usually only under very specific circumstances that you probably won't be running anyway.

So the GP is a better panel but I'm not really sure twice the price better. I don't want to say either way because everyone values their dollars differently but I don't think you're losing anything with the GN.

Is it actually that much slower for productivity stuff? I've seen that CPU mentioned as an upgrade path a few times recently, I'm still looking through reviews but there's a lot of mention of non-gaming performance being a little ordinary compared to the 5800X, but haven't seen much about how much of an issue it is.

I've got a 3700X so it may be a handy upgrade while they're still around before I have to look at replacing my motherboard.

Like dav said, it should work over at least Thunderbolt but I haven't really ever looked into them too much. I've always wondered if the interface it goes through has enough bandwidth compared to pcie or if it causes any latency.

Just swapped my cpu over in my motherboard, also changed cpu cooler and fans. Now have a FF code on my motherboard, checked CPU, no bent pins, all cables are seated correctly, nothing shorting on the motherboard. Anyone have any idea? It's supposedly a code for a generic fault but the computer is running perfectly and nothing seems to be affected.

Have you checked what the FF code means? I only ask because I once had a code that was doing my head in until I checked my motherboard manual... It was a code to say that post was OK lol.

Are you getting much difference in temps? I've been looking up 5900x vs 5800x3d comparisons and noticed a pretty consistent 5-10% higher temps despite having less cores. When I looked it up apparently it's because the memory module gets hotter than the cores.

According to manual it's reserved for future AMI error codes.
Temps seem great, got mid 50s under load. So no problem there.

Have you flashed the mobo bios?

If it’s one of the older AM4 mobos and you haven’t updated the bios it may be a compatibility issue.
