Out of contract, out of favour, injury prone :)D)...........sounds like he'd be the perfect stop gap while we wait for Kreuzer, Hampson, Aisake etc to come on.

I just think if his injuries are O.K. (not sure on these ATM) then his best footy isn't that far behind him, and we have a tradition of getting washed up rucks to maintain.

Thoughts on recruiting King in the PSD/trade for late pick?

We have too many rucks on our list at the moment. I think we have about 5 or 6 rucks. If we get another, then thats one more down to the Ants, and then thats one of the young up and coming rucks that has to play in the Ants magoos.
We just have to be patient and wait for these blokes to mature.
 
Well it would have been okay if we took the punt on Matthew Clarke for a season, so the same might apply to King pending a fitness test. McLaren will be gone this year, so we have Ackland, Aisake, Cloke, Hampson and Jacobs as a rookie. I think we know Ackland will not get many games with any real alternatives and that Hampson and Jacobs are a couple of years away. So we have an injury prone Cloke, Aisake who should not be a number one ruck even next year and not much else. King for a year is a decent insurance policy and unlike Gardiner last year, does not have the baggage to bring with him. A former club captain coming to a team that lacks senior leaders ... is it really such a bad thing?

No doubt if he was fit right now and in our squad, he would be starting ruck on the weekend ... no doubt at all.

Edit: Just saw what ILF said about a midseason draft. Oh what I wouldn't give to have that option to pick up players that no longer have a role at their clubs but would be starting 18 at a new club.
 
I would pick him up next year if
A. he was cheap, trading a next to nothing pick, PSD or trading someone who would get delisted, wouldnt give up anything of any value and

B. We delist Ackland and Mclaren would have both on the list with King aswell, i think Kings best footy is behind him but he would be handy while aisake, hampson etc develop. but there is no point having 3 ruckmen on our list as stop gap ruckmen

What's the point of recruiting a ruckman who won't play? Pass.
 
my real concern with king is his motivation. injuries have really hampered his career and IMO hurt his confidence and motivation.

there are no guarantees in football, but if king demonstrated he had the motivation to come to carlton and give 100% then he should really be considered.

he will be 29 next year
201 cm with 189 games of experience

Gives him maybe 2-3 years.

I'm not sold on the idea, and motivation for him to leave the Cats to go to a struggling club would be questionable.
But 2-3 years could see us playing finalsMy only thought here was that we have recuited dud rucks to try and fill the gap, with French being the only non dud, and cloke trying to prove that he isn't.
King isn't a dud ruck, IIRC he was an AA ruck, or certainly not far behind.
If he is fit, to those that say no.......why not?
..........just a thought.;)
 
just imagine his motivation if he misses out playing in a GF with Geelong and then get's delisted and comes to arguably the worst team in the last 3 years...talk about riches to rags

Sure, but maybe he just wants to play footy, and doesn't want to warm the stands while Ottens steals his job.

Are you kidding? Do the names McLaren and Ackland sound familiar. All we need is another hack, injury-prone ruckman. Thank god we didn't get Gardiner. Has he played a game at St.Kilda this year?
