Well... it's because we've been generationally bad, our coaches can't stop having mental breakdowns, other clubs accused one of them of being a giant racist and we employed a football administrator instead of a head coach for a few years, not because of the draft

All that is true (and as Only Forwards pointed out, I've recapped our various maladies and misapropriations in detail on mainboard threads multiple times now).

But equally true; the quote-unquote "primary" form of equalisation that exists in the AFL is the draft, and our bottom-out period just so happens to coincide with an extraordinary period of top-talent being not available in an open-draft:
  • 2020 - JUH
  • 2021 - Daicos/Darcy
  • 2022 - Ashcroft
  • 2023 - Walter?
We could argue back and forth all day about "but north didn't even bid on Daicos/Ashcroft" or other stuff, but we all know the nature of the F/S system makes bidding a largely pointless endeavour.

Like this should immediately end any and all arguments. It’s actually so ****ing simple.
Anyway, the melts will continue because the average football fan is a smooth brained dickhead

If I'm being honest, I'm laughing my head off at the highway robbery of getting assistance picks.

By the guidelines of the AFL we technically deserve it, but we're stacked with young talent and about to break through.

I don't think that I'm being too biased saying that LDU, Larkey, Thomas, Sheezel and Wardlaw are AA level talents who are 25 and under and we'll probably add 2 more with picks 2 and 3 this year. This draft assistance might let us get an 8th.

View attachment 1813694i might have to ring this bloke tomorrow and say we didn't get enough
I have mentioned on here previously , 20 years ago me and a few teenage mates attended a north game that the great G whately was boundary rider. We gave him so much stick that he reached a point that he had to relocate positions. In hindsight I’m not proud of my actions and can only imagine how degrading it must have been for poor Gerard to be hounded by a pack of kids. One of my 15 year old mates was even giving him grief about being a virgin . What a time to be alive

The reality is that all the other clubs hate seeing us get assistance, because they would far prefer for us to be a perennial cellar dweller, a guaranteed easy win most years while also getting all sanctimonious every now and again saying poor old "norf".

But saying poor old "norf" and us deserving a bit of help, are diametrically opposed emotions for these moronic types.

Hahahaha of course our happy clapper from the side line has joined in ……..🤬

Ugh ……radio gunna be unlistenable in the morning with that fkhead sprouting bullshit. “They already got Wardlaw last year as assistance, now this. Plus they are paying Logie 1.5 mill a year, which the afl is also funding, when will it end“

Nah ring in, say “thanks for taking mummas boy and giving us Wardlaw”

The melts are glorious

But seriously we need to absolutely nail the opportunity these picks have opened for us.
If done really well this can set us up for a run of sustained success over the next decade.
I don’t want the club to make one mistake in how these picks are handled
Time for Clarko , Todd , Brady and the recruiting team to make every post a winner now.

Poor ol' Norf!!

Mate, tonight we had two long-time current AFL coaches concede that our list is going to be in another stratosphere very, very soon.

The next step is that every free-agent, out of contract and 'wantaway' will nominate "Norf".

Assuming the AFL don't back door us on the BMac compo (which is still a chance btw) this assistance package is reasonable and proportional in the context of what we need to get competitive again.

Multi year assistance in this package is interesting - it effectively supplies us with 3 years worth of consecutive assistance - unprecedented in the modern era for an established Victorian based club.

I think given they have made it a multi year package it is reasonable to assume this is the last bit of assistance we will ever get - certainly in this decade.

We are on our own now and we need to make every decision count - the clubs and the AFL wont countenance any more support for us.

CCJ trade decisions; Kayne Turner leadership decisions; LMac captaincy decisions - these have to be be done now.

With Clarko in charge I have more confidence in the club's ability to use this to our advantage - but let's be clear this is it in terms of assistance.

We need to stop whinging about our lot in life and how everyone hates us and get on with making good football decisions and winning games.

And it's not like you can get a John Platten, Barry Hall, Callan Ward, Tim English or a Jacob Van Rooyen for a sh!te pick like 19, either.
It still isn't first round is it?

LoL..John Platten in 1981, when it was VFL and 12 teams...when the draft was interstate players only and in reality it was all brown paper bags?
