Strategy Draft assistance 2023 [Twomey: NMFC get #19 in 2023, x2 end of 1st rd picks in 2024, and x2 extra rookie list spots in 2024; no Sanders/#11]

Great outcome for us. These picks allow us to be far more flexible at the draft. Remember folks, don’t bother debating with these opposition morons. They aren’t here to have their minds changed, they are emotionally charged and truly believe what they are saying. There’s no changing that.

Assuming the AFL don't back door us on the BMac compo (which is still a chance btw) this assistance package is reasonable and proportional in the context of what we need to get competitive again.

Multi year assistance in this package is interesting - it effectively supplies us with 3 years worth of consecutive assistance - unprecedented in the modern era for an established Victorian based club.

I think given they have made it a multi year package it is reasonable to assume this is the last bit of assistance we will ever get - certainly in this decade.

We are on our own now and we need to make every decision count - the clubs and the AFL wont countenance any more support for us.

CCJ trade decisions; Kayne Turner leadership decisions; LMac captaincy decisions - these have to be be done now.

With Clarko in charge I have more confidence in the club's ability to use this to our advantage - but let's be clear this is it in terms of assistance.

We need to stop whinging about our lot in life and how everyone hates us and get on with making good football decisions and winning games.
I agree with sentiment of this post.

I think that we probably need to account for the possibility that AC may not be our last great hope of ultimate success - he isn’t infallible.

The guy has worked with an army of talent to win 4 premierships which is incredible. He made bold moves early in his coaching career that almost always worked out. There was a bit of luck in getting (what many would say would be) the player of the new millennium for instance and the assistance Hawthorn received made a huge difference in the first few years in delivering hope for the future.

I don’t think we should be surprised if he makes some hair-scratching decisions along the way or gets a few trade calls going the wrong way.

Without draft assistance Chris Scott wouldn’t have been gifted Pick 7 after a premiership.

Gold Coast is so stacked with high end picks that their salary cap was crippled by blokes 40 games into their career.

Where were coaches public outcry about draft integrity during that fraud Bowes trade?

Did that flog not sound like he had north’s finals stats written on a posted note before he walked in. He was just ready to go, ready to argue. campaigner
Probably on the phone with his brother before going on the show. At least he did admit if he was in the same position he'd probably want it too. Also funny how they bring up Clarko Hawks tenure and Rossy is radio silent about the Saints getting Riewoldt and Luke Ball during his era. I'd be able to cop the "let the reverse draft order" work argument if there were no NGAs, no salary dumps and father sons were either abolished or those teams paid a fair price (a pick in that same round at least). I suspect we won't necessarily be taking those F2's to the draft as I'm sure our conversations would have involved how we could use them. The other thing is we're not the only club that benefits from them. Freo wouldn't have any draft picks inside 40 without our package last year, the earliest pick they'd have is 54 (via Blues) because of the Jackson trade.

You mean the same manipulation that landed them Pick 7 AND a former FIRST round player AND allowed them to SPLIT HIS WAGE OVER TWO YEARS manipulation…

If you’re allowed to do that when why couldn’t GWS have kept him and split the wage themselves and not lost pick 7 and a player, OH wait it’s a salary dump and Geeeeeeelong so they can choose to spread his wage over 2 years..

What a ****ing crock of shit..!

Yet Scotts1.1 is bitching about us getting pick 19 and 19 and 20 (whatever the **** they end up as after FS’s and NGA’s but they do still give us access to the 19th and 20th available players) AND those picks next year need to be gotten rid of just in case we lose them anyway in a review 🤪

I think North has legit broken the brains of a couple of main boarders. Bzparkes (West Coast) and Kruuueze (Carl) in particular are really struggling with this outcome.

That little old us occupy this much space in people's heads is hilarious

Kruuueze refuses to believe that Walker, Murphy & Kreuzer were priority picks.

I can see why other Clubs are annoyed with the package.

If we play our cards right we should be able to have 3 picks in the top 10 in this draft and something similar next year. I know some of this is to compensate for JHF and McKay as well but can amass a dynasty of talent if we continue to select well (Sheez and Wardlaw the benchmark)

Many other posters have made the point that with a bit of luck last year we win 5-7 games.

We must trade the 2024 picks as I think we will win closer to 6-8 games next year assuming we are relatively healthy.

No way we have 3 top 10 next year.

This year I honestly nearly stay put unless we can trade up to 1 for 2.
14 and 19 could be project ruck and project KPD. If we are not keen on Mckertcher or Dursmma split 3 with giants and take Sully +more capita

We are certainly trading next years picks and I’d prefer to trade up then use them on exisiting players.

I had hoped we didn't end up in a position where we needed to ask for assistance back when we decided to gut the list & rebuild.

However, when you see the list of all other teams who've received PP over the years, I was like, let's get our fair share too.

When I saw the package announced, I was initially underwhelmed with only 1 pick this year & 2 next year subject to review. As I was sure any "review" would see us lose those picks.

But after seeing we are able to trade them out this year..the package started to look good. In truth, probably more tham initially expected. Being able to retain the extra rookie spots is a plus too.

And if any other team is given assistance in the future, I hope their package comes with as many terms & conditions as ours has.

Finally, I hope we finally start becoming more competitive so we're never in the position ever again of having to ask for assistance.

We wont see real outrage until Big Ben McKay nabs us pick 3.
North draft assistance on the MB clocked 10k last night.

Wait for it.

Nothing funnier than clubs perpetually gorging themselves at the banquet table of structural inequity frothing at their overindulged gobs at the prospect that we get some crumbs.

Funny that this is the only time that the word "fairness" pops into their deluded brains. They are so busy believing their constructed narrative that they are self-made heroes of hard work & flawless decision-making that they cannot hear the hypocrisy dripping from their tongues.

Brilliantly worded.

Guaranteed to trade next years. I would be shocked though if we use entire package on one player.
Would be good to target maybe a Moyle? Not my pick but Chol we are showing interest in. Maybe bundle part to move to 1? Afew options to spread them.
