And the other three have all had certain leg ups recently.
Hope you can forgive the intrusion, but I come in peace as they say! Just re this list, Hawks never got pick one as a PP, as others here have noted; we traded McPharlin and Croad to Freo for it. We got a PP in 2004 and in 2005. Had we not got the 2004 pick we would actually have taken Franklin with our natural pick but because we knew Richmond who also got a PP that year would pass on him but take Roughead we picked Roughie first. We did lose out pretty much on Franklins comp when he left though, only getting pick 19 as our comp. Hard to get a like for like replacement for him with that!

The list above could also note that Geelong got a huge lift through F&S getting Scarlett, Ablett and Hawkins for picks in the 40s, as was the system in those days, and then they were given two first rounders in comp when Ablett left to the Suns, so they’ve had their share of luck like most others.

Sydney and GWS have other mechanisms to help them of course.

So it might just be that your folks really are the only club to miss out. That’s really not fair if that’s the case. Hopefully you’ll dnag done F&Ss or something to even the ledger a bit.

Anyway, sorry for the intrusion. And for the long post! Hope nobody minds!

Billy Frampton is going to be a Premiership player.

Not Tex, Sloaney, Boak or Robbie Gray.

Tex and Sloane had their chances in 2017 at least.

Boak and Gray never had the opportunity to win a flag on GF day.

Really?

Some quotes in this thread about Rendell identifying him as a major talent.

Barrier Daily Truth, Broken Hill, 13/10/2007:

Star North Football Club junior Taylor Walker looks set to complete a "dream" entry into the AFL after he was added to the Adelaide Crows' playing list yesterday.

The Crows made the announcement that Walker would be joining the club late yesterday afternoon as part of Adelaide's NSW Scholarship Program.
Walker was added to the club's program in May 2006, and quickly repaid the faith shown in him with standout performances up forward in both the local and TAC Cup competitions.
As part of the program Adelaide were able to priority list the talented 190cm youngster in exchange for their sixth round pick in the upcoming draft.
Walker said he was contacted by Crows' Recruiting Manager Matt Rendell and Senior Coach Neil Craig about his selection, and was left in a state of disbelief.
"They told me at around 3.30, and at the start I didn't really believe it, it didn't really click, but then Matt Rendell said 'We're taking you' and that was it," he said.

Whilst we're all grumbling on about unfair favouritism towards undeserving clubs, with most of the attention being paid to North Melbourne, here's mine...

Collingwood.

Every man and his dog with even the slightest bit of knowledge about the workings of the AFL knows that in 2020 the AFL knew that Collingwood was in breach of the salary cap. They kept it quiet and told them to get it fixed or else, hence the Treloar trade.

Now, remembering that with Tippett, Crows were never even in breach of the salary cap, I think the worst thing we did was not document something we agreed with a player (and that even if we honoured that non documented agreement we were still likely inside the cap) and remembering we lost our first and second round draft picks for two seasons in a row well then...

If Collingwood had have been given our penalty (arguably it shouldve been worse, 3 years even) then that would've made the awkward situation where they had a gun father son (Nick Daicos) who all their fans would've wanted them to be able to pick up, yet under the salary cap rule breach meaning no first and second round picks (and with Daicos most certainly being worth one of those) that either the AFL would've had to look like they backed down on their penalty in a way, or the favourite son of a big club would've more or less, through no fault of his, been made available to another club.

Anyway, this weekend Collingwood play off in a grand final (and whilst I love their coach Macrae and what he's done) lets not for a second think they've got there through fair competition.

We’ve got Welsh coming up as Father/Son who is apparently a total jet. So they’ll change the F/S rules no doubt, like they did for Gibbs.

Why is North holding the AFL hostage? They have now said they won't let McKay go unless they are guaranteed top tier compensation??? That's not how free agency works. Supposedly if they aren't given pick 3 they'll match Essendon 's bid and make it extremely difficult for them to acquire McKay's services.

AFL are building a monster and it's utter bullshit they are getting assistance for ******* their own s**t up.

We aren't holding anyone hostage, it is how free agency works.

He is a restricted free agent, that means we can match an offer put to him, then it is up to the player if he stays with the club, a trade is made or he can choose to go into the draft and end up wherever someone takes him.

GWS matched Geelong's free agency bid for Cameron, despite getting band one compensation, and they eventually did a trade. It isn't guaranteed to work in our favour if we match, we could end up getting nothing if he goes into the draft.

The talk about us not getting any help while North are getting refurnished with priority picks …

Which team would you rather be right now?

You can be the team that has been so bad over the last few seasons that everyone thinks they should fold … that hold another bunch of low draft picks.

Or you can be the team most likely to jump from missing the finals into the eight in 2024 … with one of the most exciting young lists in the comp.

Careful what you wish for.
